Corky Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Yes they did spend 34 years avoiding relegation from the top tier but historically up until the mid 60s their whole existence had been in the lower leagues it wasn't until Jimmy Hill arrived in '64 that they made progress moving from D3 to D1 by 1967, Maybe their rise was too rapid and they never had a chance to build up a history of success and so their crowds match their lower league history. Having said that their record gate of £50K+ when they first got to the top tier in '67 is bigger than ours and of course they've won the FA Cup. Which is why the proposed 45k ground was an absurd suggestion. I can remember when we were moving into a 40k ground in 2000. I was only 9/10 but I can recall thinking it was a big jump to almost double the capacity. And when we moved we were filling Filbert St and had been to plenty of finals at Wembley which proved the potential support was there to fill a new ground at a sensible capacity. I'm sure Coventry had a bigger record gate but what has the average attendances over time been like for both clubs?
jonthefox Posted 15 September 2012 Posted 15 September 2012 2-0 defeat at Tranmere. The rot has firmly set in.
Matt Posted 18 September 2012 Author Posted 18 September 2012 Shrewsbury 2 - 0 Coventry. Half Time. Bottom of the league.

Guest Bilo Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 4-1 now. I really wish I'd put some money on them going down at the start of the season, must have been 10/1 or more.
Guest MattP Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 They should be locked out of the stadium with shame after this result tonight.
cambridgefox Posted 18 September 2012 Posted 18 September 2012 Think this would be their 4th defeat of the season.i believe the year we were in that league we lost 5 all season.
