Captain... Posted 9 September 2012 Posted 9 September 2012 9,400 odd. That must have been the tv audience. In all seriousness I take no pleasure in seeing Coventry go bust, nor any other team, they really need to renegotiate that contract, or declare bankruptcy, if they sacrifice the playing side to pay off the stadium then they will get relegated again and be in bigger trouble.
General Smuts Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 UP THE BORO! At least 1500 of that attendance was us as well.
Craig Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 UP THE BORO! At least 1500 of that attendance was us as well. 461?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for them. Must be a horrible experience being a hardcore fan of theirs. That feeling certainly doesn't do much to stir a rivalry for me personally. This.

Soar Fox Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 Jesus. And i thought we were doom and gloom mongers. Like someone said on there it's all tongue in cheek. To be fair to them they are joking about it as they've probably given up. If it was us in there position this place would be in meltdown.

ScouseFox Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 "if we get relegated to league 2 ... ... at least we'll win some games next season and have some new grounds to visit" Didn't they post the same thing, this time last year? I'd assume so, yes. I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of the thread, they're taking the piss out of themselves, saying that a drop in league would be good etc when clearly them dropping to League One hasn't exactly started off very well.
Fox92 Posted 10 September 2012 Posted 10 September 2012 I know they are taking the pi*s... I hope they don't drop down to League Two. Bradford had lots of financial trouble themselves, sadly dropped into League Two, and are now the lowest ranked club out of all former Premier League clubs.
Parafox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Seen this http://www.skybluest...to-league-2-... Possibly one of the worst football forums I've seen. No discussion, just one line statements. Crap, as is the club. Sorry for the fans, but it's run like a sunday league side, the Ricoh was always, always beyond them and the council have screwed them over good and proper. Even the Olympic football was shit.

Worst move they ever made. I know a few cov fans who were always Highfield road regulars, but can't be bothered now.
jonthefox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Seen this http://www.skybluest...to-league-2-... Best quote i could find. approach local businesses, get them to buy 10 tickets for each home game and pay for the cost of producing the banner promoting the company. For that CCFC will use the banners to cover the top 10 rows around the stadium supporting local business, makes the stadium look better, getting bums on seats and zero cost. It really isnt rocket surgery !
Fox92 Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Highfield Road was a proper football ground. Richo Arena, as most newer grounds, isn't as good as Highfield Road was.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 As much as I hate them, I would hate if more if they folded, what is football without a bit of rivalry?
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 As much as I hate them, I would hate if more if they folded, what is football without a bit of rivalry? If they folded, Coventry City would start up again with a clean slate though several leagues below League 2. There have been a number of occasions where teams have folded only to come back into the League. Wimbledon have even managed this as a completely different club.

Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 True. Worst move they ever made. I know a few cov fans who were always Highfield road regulars, but can't be bothered now. The scary thing is that their original plan was to build a 45,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof and state-of-the-art facilities, the plans were only downgraded after relegation and ITV Digital going bang.
Corky Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 The scary thing is that their original plan was to build a 45,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof and state-of-the-art facilities, the plans were only downgraded after relegation and ITV Digital going bang. Which is even more bizarre given that they had some very low crowds in the top division.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Very odd thinking. Their attendances were smaller than ours after 30 odd years in the Premiership. Highfield Road was actually the perfect ground for Coventry.
davieG Posted 12 September 2012 Posted 12 September 2012 Yes they did spend 34 years avoiding relegation from the top tier but historically up until the mid 60s their whole existence had been in the lower leagues it wasn't until Jimmy Hill arrived in '64 that they made progress moving from D3 to D1 by 1967, Maybe their rise was too rapid and they never had a chance to build up a history of success and so their crowds match their lower league history. Having said that their record gate of £50K+ when they first got to the top tier in '67 is bigger than ours and of course they've won the FA Cup.

We've never had a sustained run in the top tier of that magnitude, but most of our reasonably lengthy stints have at least taken in some excitement. The 1920s and 30s saw us being genuinely competitive, the 50s saw Arthur Rowley scoring for fun, the 60s saw the Ice Kings and three FA Cup Finals, the 70s was the Bloomfield era, the 80s saw the early days of Lineker, Smith and Lynex and then there was the O'Neill era of the late 90s and early 2000s. In the top division we've either been brilliant or truly dreadful, whereas Coventry had 34 years of dreary mediocrity for the most part.
