Carl the Llama Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 He did play poorly for the best part of 2 years .... He's had 3 good games so far and scored one goal - let's not get too excited! He aint - he's just calling for the same thought process to be applied in both directions which I think's fair enough. Still undecided on Waggy personally.
Mark_w Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 He did play poorly for the best part of 2 years .... He's had 3 good games so far and scored one goal - let's not get too excited! The whole point is that he barely started any games in that two year period. Col is being incredibly hypocritical by calling for those singing Waghorn's praises to have a little perspective when he was slating Waghorn whenever he got the chance and having a go at me for saying exactly what he's saying now.
Guest Col city fan Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Just thought I'd point out you only take the sane approach when a player you dislike is doing well. When they're playing poorly you're happy to stick the boot in. Didn't want that fact to go unnoticed. If you read the posts back (as in going back some time) you'll see I've never 'stuck the boot in' re. Waggy. I've supported the lad, but have stated I don't think he'll score enough goals for the club. So have suggested alternatives. Your views are incredibly concrete Mark. You've tarnished me as a hater of players I think? I doubt I'll change that as it seems fixed. Regarding 'slating the player at every chance'.. That's ridiculous. As I've said, start looking at things in less black and white terms.

As I've said, start looking at things in less black and white terms. You said he wouldn't score goals even though he hadn't been playing poorly for all that many games. Now after a few games people are saying he's back to his old self and all of a sudden you're saying that 'It's only three games' well you did pretty much the same thing. I doubt he'd had much playing time this season before you started writing him off (You did, you might not remember because you were pissed, but you did). Why should the amount of playing time be taken into account by those praising him, but not by those criticizing him? I've not written you off as a hater of players, there are very few people who I have done that with, you just like to accuse me of it. Indeed I know I'm more likely to stick to an opinion about a player than you are, as we saw with the Beckford debate this summer, I just think you're too quick to form your opinion about players at times.

Who was calling those singing his praises? I've simply called for some BALANCE Mark? Is that a concept you understand? He's playing well yes.. Great... But has got one goal this season.. Don't start filling your pants just yet.

My mind is still unsure about Beckford as a goal scorer? As I said in the summer. As are the minds of many many Leicester City fans? We aren't all as one dimensional as you in our thinking.

We aren't all as one dimensional as you in our thinking. That's pretty much what I just said. I know that you change your opinion about players more frequently than me, but I think you'd be better off giving players more time rather than writing them off and flip-flopping from 'They're good enough' to 'They aren't good enough'. If you showed the balance you're calling for from posters who are currently praising Waghorn then you wouldn't need to change your opinion on players so frequently as you did with Beckford last summer and as you will be doing if Waghorn keeps this run of form going.
Babylon Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 He did play poorly for the best part of 2 years .... He's had 3 good games so far and scored one goal - let's not get too excited! How many starts did he have In those two years, and how many were under a manager who knows how to use him?

Guest Col city fan Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 You weren't calling for balance 4 games though is I think Marks point. Your mind seemed quite made up. My mind was made up regarding Waghorn as not being the second natural goalscorer I thought we needed. Yes. Though, unlike others, I wasn't 'slating' him, or calling him shit or whatever. The point I made in my previous post was that he's now gone from soooo many people on here slating him to now being 'God's gift', after three games! My opinion HASN'T changed.. That's my point. I'm glad he's doing well at present, but I don't think he'll score us enough goals. Happy to be proven wrong.....
Corky Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Still, at least Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is doing well.
TrentFox Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Okay. I hereby declare this contest an honourable draw !!! Time to move on, guys. "How's Beckford getting on" or "4-2-3-1", anyone ???

TrentFox Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Where's the dancing Pearson thread when you need it?! So what kind of a mover do you think Nige is ?????
foxfanazer Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Why does a player having a couple of impressive performances have to to turn in to a debate about who slagged him off months ago and who always had faith in him. He's looking good at the moment, he's an honest, hardworking player that will always give 100% to the cause. He isn't a 20 goal a season striker and is quite inconsistent
Oxfordfox83 Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 How's about: all players are subject to form, and all players, given a decent stint in the side, will find a level that is theirs, give or take the form. Then, there are personalities: some we like (e.g. Waghorn, Nuge), some we don't (Mills, Marlon King, saving your presence Col). The worst crime is not trying or not caring, (unless you're Marlon King, but let's avoid actual crime). In general, Waghorn's a popular lad and definitely a trier. There are those that love him for loving the club (esp those who saw his loan spell) and those that leapt on him for some sloppy finishing. The thing I don't get is the vitriol on here, where people seem to be willing our players to fail. There is a range on here of people that want different people out of the club because they're not good enough. Full blown idiots said King, after a couple of games feeling his way back into the team. Then there's a spectrum through Vardy, Dyer, Whitbread, James, Wellens, Gallagher, then Beckford and Mills, with Waghorn somewhere about Dyer. Everyone is entitled to think whatever they like about whoever they like, but it will never cease to amaze me how much hatred people have for someone trying and not quite making it. Especially when lack of support clearly makes the problem worse. Which is why when a trier does come good, those of us who supported him in his off spells all get so excited. This isn't at you Col, at all. You are voicing moderation and a reasonable opinion, albeit one that I slightly disagree with. But I understand why Mark is fighting, cos it's so tempting to go 'I told you so!' to everyone else, and you haven't slunk away like so many critics. The boy can run, hustle, muscle, and we all also know he can finish. Let's hope he keeps it up, and as long as he's in the team, keep cheering him, even if you doubt him, so that you really can enjoy being proven wrong.
kingfox Posted 19 November 2012 Author Posted 19 November 2012 Col is being incredibly hypocritical Does that count as an offensive remark? If so ban him, Mark deserves to join the hardcore club, with me and Lamby.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 You been slating Waggy Col ? FT clashes can be so hilarious and frustrating in equal measures! Why can't people just accept opinions differ, yes fervently back opinions but just accept it as that. In one of the threads over the weekend some bloke likened seenitalls opinion and influence to Hitlers Germany
foxfanazer Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 over the weekend some bloke likened seenitalls opinion and influence to Hitlers Germany haha that was a personal favourite of mine

Manwell Pablo Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Glad he's finally hit the back of the net, the lads all effort and he's attitdue is spot on and proffesional. I stll maintain he's a got the ability of a mid to bottom table Championship player though and we could still do with another striker. But deserves his place in front of Vardy atm and if he can find some more finishes like the one he produced for his goal than fair enough.

Babylon Posted 19 November 2012 Posted 19 November 2012 Agreed, Vardy is Hume MK II In the sense he'll score more than 9 league goals.... Here hee hee.
