He did give it away, but you can see he and James have ability. It just didn't feel like it was clicking for me quite enough.

But they are two young lads and should only grow into the roles as time goes on.

I agree that they are ones for the future, but drinky wasn't great tonight, worried that nigel is putting too much pressure on him by playing him every game, ditto Vardy

It seems that a 2-1 win was a widely predicted scoreline in our favour and thankfully it turned out to be spot on after our usual shakey first half was turned around in the second period.....also as quite a few of you predicted would happen in sequence! However many have also predicted that we'll continue our lose-win-lose-win sequence after tonight against Dull City on Saturday so let's hope they're wrong and that Pearson can shut the whingers up at Hull! - I think they've just about got over losing him back to us last season now.

Good to see Vardy continue his scoring after the big step up from non league, which seems to be suiting him pretty well so far and weighing in with a tight, well executed goal from what I saw on SSN with the angle he was at, so well done Jamesy boy! Nuge's 100th league goal looked a bit fortuitous but we'll take those as we certainly need themand it should help transform his confidence back to last season's best for him now. We now obviously need to gain some momentum after tonight, which is something we haven't done since Pearson's return in essence! That's not only with beating a confident Dull City on Saturday but to get our show on the road away from "fortress KP" too.....

Some winnable looking fixtures there, but we need to step up our away form as a matter of urgency.

You are right, there are some winnable games there. However we are currently 10th, and 4 out of those 6 teams are above us right now. In fact the lowest side of those is Birmingham in 13th, so pretty much all 6 of those games are against top half teams.

After those 6 games, we will have played 7 out of the 9 teams currently above us, and only 4 that are currently in the bottom half.

I think it was the same for the last two seasons as well. We seem to always play teams that are in form at the time we get them, where as other teams might be more lucky and get teams that always seem to be in poor form.

IMO the order that fixtures are drawn definitely has an effect on the outcome of the season. Just look at Southampton so far this season. The fact that they have had to play Man City, Man Utd, and Arsenal so early could seriously effect their season IMO. An easier start allows you to build confidence and momentum.

Even though they still may have lost those 3 games over the course of the season, there is something about getting 0 points from the first 4 games that damages the confidence of the team. No matter who that was against, it gives a mountain to climb and makes it very hard to overcome. It is possible, but a team, and more importantly the fans, start to feel sorry for themselves after a poor start, no matter how hard on paper it was. That only makes it even harder to turn around.

Unspectacular and luck was actually on our side regarding the goals (for once).

Thought we were definitely the stronger side over 90, can't believe someone said it was equivalent to Blackburn v Leicester, we were the better side in both over 90 I'd say.

Morgan & Knockaert the star performers for me today.

Not massively convincing but I just hope Pearson realises this and gets working on it. 4-2-3-1 should start on Sunday, Knockaert's superb in AMC.

For all that's been said about being patient, the widespread booing off of the team at half-time showed the sort of tightrope Pearson is now walking with City fans and last night's result was more one of relief than of restoring confidence.

But at least the Nugent/Vardy partnership paid a worthwhle dividend, for all that the goals were somewhat fortuitous rather than the result of anything genuinely creative.

In many ways it was a frustrating performance - and how close we came to giving two points away with our trademark negativity at the end when, in sight of victory, our defence opened up like the Biblical Red Sea and almost allowed Burnley free passage to a goal.

You could see the nervousness among the players from the start with Kasper's indifferent kicking and so many early examples of poor ball control - and the goal we conceded was so simple as to be all but unopposed.

Our second half could hardly fail to be an improvement because we created next to nothing in the first but despite our goals and achieving near complete ascendancy we became the mirror image of last year's team when we went in front and visually dropped back into our collective shell leaving only Dyer to show any real pace and adventure.

Even then we might have had at least another two goals but such support as there was was half-hearted, particularly near the end when even a 3 against 2 situation wasn't enough to tempt us to try for a third goal and we headed off again towards the sanctuary or the corner flag and another bout of prolonged time-wasting.

Many fans won't care but it's not what I want to see especially as our sitting back and Morgan's blunder so nearly cost us two or our three points and would have done but for a point-blank save by Kasper when all seemed lost..

Where this "let's sit on it" mentality arises from I'd love to know but I honestly wonder if it all but cost Pearson his job last night because for al that people have dismissed it in victory, there would have been no sympathy whatsoever had we drawn.

I had Nugent man-of-the-match. He combined with Vardy to score an uplifting equaliser, hit the bar with a decent long-range effort and contributed a fair amount of effort and setting up play. Even so I'd only have rated him 7.25 or so because it wasn't a day of outstanding performances in any department.

Dyer and King were much missed in the first half when we posed no real threat at all and passed the ball like amateurs. Yes, we improved considerably before Dyer's introduction, with Knockaert overcoming early lapses to ask a few questions, but Dyer gave us much-needed urgency and the first opportunity for the mostly placid, somewhat disgruntled crowd to buzz a bit.

Our passing and support was much better second half but once again we lacked accuracy and invention with the final ball and only for brief moments did we ever look like a team that might challenge for a top two place.

Great to wake up to a win, and sounds like a result where the luck went with us a little as compared to recent weeks where weeve done most things right but not seen a result on the score sheet.

Great for Nuge to get back on track and Vardy is certainly showing some very positive signs, Knocky continues as a pleasant surprise, i hope he can manage to keep his confidence and keep testing the opposition.

Can't believe the people playing down the win because we got a bit of luck. Then when we have luck against us and lose you get people saying its an excuse and you make your own luck?!

And when we win without playing well and they say "we need to perform much better" but then we lose playing great football but all of a sudden it's all about the result. Frustrating!

I think the psychological impact of going a goal down and coming out on top will do the team the world of good - in our recent away games, we've conceded and then thrown everything at the opposing team to try and get back into it I think actually achieving that now might gives us a bit more steel. Having said that, I'd prefer it if we didn't concede first at all!

As lucky today as we were unlucky against Blackburn... But people say its only points that matter and you make your own luck, so!!!!

Let me guess the same people will now moan about an unconvincing win though.

Not me. A win is a win is a win. Only the result matters. I said it after the Charlton and Blackburn games and I stand by that after yesterday. I would have liked to see a more convincing performance, of course, but you won't always get that in football.

My feeling at the final whistle was a sense of relief. The first half bore the hallmarks of our insipid display against Millwall last year and I think had we lost Nigel Pearson would have been receiving his marching orders today. As it is I think he has saved himself for a couple more games. I still think he has a challenge on to keep his job beyond the short term, but I hope he succeeds. If he does it means we are doing well and besides, I like the man. We need to get a grip of the season now. A couple of wins on the bounce and we find ourselves in a lovely position. A couple of defeats and we find ourselves managerless again.

Play really open football and let us get 4/5 goals up? We aren't going to stuff every team this season and we HAVE to be patient.

Really? Where did you sit ... I was actually quite shocked that I didn't hear a single murmur to that affect from where i sat.

Overall, good win and deserved.

We were never at our best but who the hell cares. We were excellent at Blackburn and lost plus had no luck in that game. Tonight we were decent but actually had some deserved luck so we take it and move on to Sunday.

People saying how bad we were 1st half, dont totally agree. We just lacked ideas and spark. We had plenty of the ball but we played straight into Burnley's negative system. Second half was much better, NP changed the system which worked a treat so credit to the gaffer there. Apart from one shot they dragged wide and Kasper's save they rarely threatened. On the other hand, we didnt create as many chances as we have been doing but our tempo was far better 2nd half and we looked more exciting.

Surprised at some low ratings for Drinkwater as well. His workrate was outstanding last night, was absolutely everywhere and made us tick. Yes he gave away a few sloppy passed but there's a reason he's not playing for Man Utd.

Finally, note on De Laet, how fast is this guy!!?? He's actually as good as Kyle Naughton at beating his fullback but still needs to work on his defending a little. He'd do a job as a winger!

2 of those 3 games are against sides currently sitting in the top 6, and 2 are away from home. It's a good job your not the owner, we would have a new manager on a monthly basis.

Anything more than 5 points will be a very good return in my opinion, let alone having to get 7 for Pearson to keep his job.
