Leicester 2-1 Burnley Post Match Thread

2 of those 3 games are against sides currently sitting in the top 6, and 2 are away from home. It's a good job your not the owner, we would have a new manager on a monthly basis.

Anything more than 5 points will be a very good return in my opinion, let alone having to get 7 for Pearson to keep his job.

The owners won't give a shit where our opponents sit in the league. If we lose a couple of those games Pearson will be gone. Sven had won more than he'd lost when he was sacked last season. We were two points off the play offs and had we beaten Millwall rather than walked to defeat we'd have been fourth. It's a game of fine margins and if the owners decide we are on the wrong side of the line they will act. Last night's win does not mean that Pearson's job is safe. In my view if the owners aren't to sack him we need to be putting together a run of promotion form pretty quickly.

I have to say, was flying so didnt listen to the game, but going 1-0 down after I read Knockaert hit the post - getting booed at half-time (to what degree its not important) and then to hold on to snatch a win! Just what the doctor ordered in my eyes - still think this all depends on the turn out and result on Sunday vs Hull!

Onwards and Upwards!

Where did I say losing two of them would be acceptable? Yet again someone decides to argue against a point that I never even made. I said anything more than 5 points would be a good return. Correct me if I'm wrong, but how can we get 5 points from 3 games by losing two of them?

I wouldn't sack NP but I am not the Thais they will probably want to see some consistent performances being built up in terms of results if they don't see that they may make a change imo.

Vardy's goal was class - interesting that he was not going through the centre though but out to the right when he took it

I think it may have been a cross that took a big deflection.

Overall, good win and deserved.

We were never at our best but who the hell cares. We were excellent at Blackburn and lost plus had no luck in that game. Tonight we were decent but actually had some deserved luck so we take it and move on to Sunday.

People saying how bad we were 1st half, dont totally agree. We just lacked ideas and spark. We had plenty of the ball but we played straight into Burnley's negative system. Second half was much better, NP changed the system which worked a treat so credit to the gaffer there. Apart from one shot they dragged wide and Kasper's save they rarely threatened. On the other hand, we didnt create as many chances as we have been doing but our tempo was far better 2nd half and we looked more exciting.

Surprised at some low ratings for Drinkwater as well. His workrate was outstanding last night, was absolutely everywhere and made us tick. Yes he gave away a few sloppy passed but there's a reason he's not playing for Man Utd.

Finally, note on De Laet, how fast is this guy!!?? He's actually as good as Kyle Naughton at beating his fullback but still needs to work on his defending a little. He'd do a job as a winger!

How did he change the system? Saw someone else mention this, was unable to see or follow the match as I was on a work leaving do, I kinda had to go as I am the one leaving...

I didn't say you did. I suggest you read my post again. I made it quite clear that I was responding to your point about where our opponents are placed in the league. And also that it doesn't matter what you or I or anybody else but the owners find acceptable.

So you seriously think that if we get 5 or 6 points from the next 3 games, they will sack him?

Because that is what you said, those are both less than 7 points, but still good returns IMO.

Don't you think that setting the bar at 7 points from those games is a tad unrealistic? Or maybe you wish they would set the bar that high, because you have now decided you don't want Pearson in charge and just want him out no matter what?

Started with the normal 4-4-2 then 2nd half he changed it to 4-3-3 with Knockaert moving more central.

Arguably it was even a 4-2-3-1 but either way, it worked!!!

In that case, no worries.

Really? Where did you sit ... I was actually quite shocked that I didn't hear a single murmur to that affect from where i sat.

I moved from where I normally sit due to a friend wanting to go and theres no seats around me, ended up in H1

Blimey where is the NFP of old, (I think the F stands for four four two), attacking dynamic football, tactical flexibility and a devil may care attitude, (making attacking subs when clinging on to a lead).

The only thing that convinces me he hasn't been replaced by a body snatcher is the dour post match interview, if he starts breaking into a smile then I will be convinced we have an imposter.

wouldnt we all. I sometimes think we might be better deselecting say, the 5 highest rated players from a winning performance and insert 5 benchwarmers on the grounds that they would be bound to put in an eye catching performance to stay in the side whilst the best performers will almost certainly follow a good performance with a crap one because that is the natural way of things at City.

In arguably 5 of our 6 games so far, we've been the better side but not necessarily come out with the correct result nor had the rub of the green. "You make your own luck" i hear people say.

We win last night having by all accounts put in our worst performance so far "We were fortunate last night", "worst half since Sven v Millwall, NP must go" they say. You can't have it both ways..

I swear certain people would not be happy unless we put in 46 stellar performances throughout the league season culminating in 46 wins. Reading the match thread, it was embarrassing to see some of the carry on. Indeed, it shows how reactionary some people are when, having piped up so fervently at going 1-0 down, they were then forced to defend themselves as we turned it around. No doubt there wouldn't have been a word uttered had we gone 1-0 up and scraped a victory that way. A football match is 90 minutes, clowns.

Unfortunately, despite the protestations from those who were swept away by Sven's PR charm offensive, he left us in a financial hole through exorbitant transfer fees and wages, without anywhere near producing a team capable of mixing it towards the top. We know, and hopefully the Thais know, that this is the antithesis of what Nigel Pearson wants. Unfortunately, the whole financial "investment" left us, as fans, with huge (be them realistic or not) expectations, which we still harbour now. Unfortunately, the game has changed somewhat, and Pearson deserves far more time than some are willing to give based upon this.

This whole 'luck' issue I think is a non starter.

I think 'luck' averages itself out over the course of a season, whether it be disallowed goals, red cards, deflections or whatever. I've followed City since I was 7 years old and season after season I believe this to be the case.

The promoted sides from the Championship don't get promoted, over 46 (49) games due to luck. Instead it's having the right manager, the right players, the right work ethic and the right tactics. There will always be individual cases where you get 'the rub of the green'. Vardy's deflected goal last night being a case in point.

But to use the concept of 'luck' on a regular basis is to dismiss the reality of what makes teams successful or unsuccessful. Southampton, Reading and West Ham didn't go up last season because they were any more 'lucky' than other teams. They went up because, over the course of the season they were simply the best and strongest teams.

I genuinely believe that to keep citing 'luck' or 'bad referreing' as a determining factor in any success we may have is folly. The fact that Vardy's goal happened last night was because we had come out for the 2nd half all guns blazing and we got the rewards. If Vardy hadn't taken up that position last night, if the ball hadn't come to him, the deflection wouldn't have happened anyway.

Your last sentence sums it up for me - that if players show themselves prepared t have a go then sometimes they'll get a break and score. If they don't - like Wellens most weeks when he played - they'll never get lucky.

What disappoints me is that we've too many players who don't pose a goal threat now - particularly Drinkwater and James in the central midfield) because they rarely have a crack.

If we don't get goals from midfield - or from our centre-backs from set plays (Morgan's at Charlton has been the only threat I recall) then, again, we'll drop important points because we simply cannot afford to rely on just three potential scorers (Vardy, Nugent and Marshall) in the side at any one time.

Some might consider Knockaert a threat and his record sugests he might score a few but it's not happened yet and he doesn't show signs of being the hottest finisher.

Late home last night and an early start this am. so thoughts......

The first half was probably the worst 45 minutes I have seen this season, SSL, brought in for the supposedly error prone Moore was himself, er, error prone, Marshall on the left was so uninvolved he looked to be saving himself for a hot date!

The rest simply lacked focus and intensity, Burnley sat deep, invited us on and tried to hit us on the break, worked well enough....... :dunno:

Our attacking play, such as it was, consisted of high crosses mostly from 30 odd yards out that were handled with ease by two big defenders and the goalie, so predictable......

Second half we got back into it almost immediately with a fairly scruffy goal and for about 20 minutes, during which we scored the second we looked ok. Burnley came back at us in the last quarter and we seemed to let them, maybe the subs had disrupted our play, maybe we just relaxed, not sure........ :dunno:

Just read Shakey's interview, think he is overegging it somewhat, the first goal came before any half time changes could have an effect and Knockeart looks to come inside anyway. Whatever formation we were playing, we were pretty poor towards the end conceding far too much to Burnley who could well have retrieved a point late on.

Decent for about 20 minutes at the start of the second half, otherwise.......

Knockaert is one of the few players I've seen here over the last few years that shows he really can consistently play a killer pass. I'm not too fussy about him pulling in a huge goal haul as long as he keeps creating chances at the rate he has.

If Vardy and co' had been a bit more clinical he could be smashing the league for assists so far.

Good points and maybe its about time!!! When we have played well this season, we've not got any positive results so nice to play bang average and win!! Lets keep it up!

You like many dont seem happy whatever we do

Im not normally a fan of SSL but him and Morgan did well last night

Really, you thought he was good for the first 30 minutes? Where he constantly gave the ball away, played terrible risky passes putting his team mates in trouble, was out of position constantly seemingly thinking he was playing at left back, and from where I was sat was also positionally at fault for their goal.

He improved after that, but there were others on the pitch a damn site more worthy of MOTM than he ever was because of the start he had. It's not like he did a great deal there onwards other than being a bit more solid.
