TrentFox Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 I don't generally think people have a problem with having someone lined up if the current manager isn't doing well, it's just good business. In this case however, we'd be wrong to replace the manager. I don't see how you can compare the two situations, I don't think there's any hypocrisy from most on here. I'm not arguing about NP's undoubted right / necessity to carry on. But do you not think there is a touch of hypocrisy in the phrase I've highlighted compared to the reaction on these boards in the last day or so ??
MrSpaM Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 it will be a pile of shite. We need to do what is best for the football club and that at present is stability surely? Unfortunatly the owners arnt going to accept just staying up this season, getting into the premiership is very much top priority and it has been since they arrived
MattyFromLE Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Unfortunatly the owners arnt going to accept just staying up this season, getting into the premiership is very much top priority and it has been since they arrived But recent results give the impression that "just staying up" isn't going to be the case, we're ****ing 2nd for gods sake!
Kitchandro Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Do I think Pearson deserves to be sacked? - No. Do I think redknapp is a better manager than Pearson? Yes. Do I think that Redknapp would be a better manager than Pearson in the Premiership? - Yes Do I think that Redknapp is MORE likely to get us promoted this season?? - Possibly not. At the end of the day, the Thai's have pretty much mortgaged the future of the club in securing premiership football. IF they had a chat with Harry, it would have been when our form wasn't great. IF he gave a positive reaction, then in some ways, the Thai's would be daft to not explore that further. Whichever way you cut it, Redknapp has a stronger track record than Pearson. Portsmouth didn't get into a mess BECAUSE of Redknapp, successive boards sanctioned the spending. EVERY football manager will want to spend money to strengthen the squad. I'm unsure on whether this would be a good thing for the club. I like pearson as a manager. I think he has adapated his "style" of play this year and I like the fact that he does all of this through identifying young talent. that said, redknapp does have the capacity to do exactly the same. Pearson is like 15-20 years younger than Redknapp. What had Redknapp done in football management 20 years ago? I'd rather see where this promising young manager is taking us.
5waller5 Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 And if you think Redknapp is a genius you clearly have no knowledge of business. Problem is he's achieved his success at these smaller clubs by completely overspending in his time there and leaving them in a mess long after he has gone. Most people could walk into a business, borrow 50million, splash it everywhere, see instant results with no regard for the long-term but it wouldn't change the fact you have to pay it back eventually. He just knew when to get out. He did a very good job at Spurs, no doubt about that, but still a job that is average when compared to managers like Wenger who spent far less than him and still finished higher than him every season. As someone else has already said - the budget's are given and approved by the board - not the football manager .... his job is to secure the goal of the playing side and do so within the budget constraints set and approved by the board. If a club goes out of business it's the business side of things that are to blame not the manager.
Wycombe Fox Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 I agree that it's madness. We are currently at our highest position in the league than at any point since our relegation from the Prem in 2004.

But do you not think there is a touch of hypocrisy in the phrase I've highlighted compared to the reaction on these boards in the last day or so ?? I agree some people are fickle on here, judging the season after 5 games, wanting NP sacked and then 3 games later thinking he's hero. But that's nothing like what your original point seemed to be. You were talking about the principle of having someone lined up to replace someone, which is a completely different issue.
5waller5 Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Pearson is like 15-20 years younger than Redknapp. What had Redknapp done in football management 20 years ago? I'd rather see where this promising young manager is taking us. I was just searching to find out the answer to this as I was actually really interested to see .... and found this on wikipedia ..... I didn't know any of this incident - sounds like the catalyst that made the guy so determined .... In June 1990, while in Italy to watch the World Cup, Redknapp was involved in a road accident along with Michael Sinclair, the chairman of York City, Fred Whitehouse, the chairman of Aston Villa and Bournemouth's managing director Brian Tiler, who died along with four other people. Travelling through Latina, south of Rome, their minibus was in collision with a car containing several Italian soldiers. Their vehicle was flipped onto its roof and skidded fifty yards along the road. Redknapp was doused in petrol and pulled clear of the accident by Sinclair. Redknapp suffered a fractured skull, a broken nose, cracked ribs and a gash in his left leg. Ambulance services arriving at the scene believed him dead and placed a blanket over his head. Unconscious for two days Redknapp was flown home two weeks later in a special air ambulance paid for by AFC Bournemouth.[26] Though he made a full recovery (apart from losing his sense of smell and gaining a facial tic), he eventually quit Bournemouth at the end of the 1991–92 season.[27] [edit]
The Year Of The Fox Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Joke of a club if something happens other than Pearson staying. I expect 'one Nigel Pearson' to be belted out across all 4 stands on Saturday. It certainly bloody will be in l block
Wycombe Fox Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 An interesting piece on HR's spending record in the transfer market. Some staggering sums of cash involved. http://soccerlens.com/wheeler-dealer-nah-harry-redknapp-has-one-of-the-best-transfer-records-in-football/58373/

_Fatboyslow_ Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 I don't think for a second he will be replaced but if for some crazy reason he is i swear to all that's holy they will never see another penny of mine. I don't think you are alone with that veiw and I would hate to see some one else get credit for the work that NP has done so far. Lets face if you add a couple of proven players to the current squad, we will be as good as anyone in the championship.
Guest MattP Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Same as a few others, if they do get rid of Nige at this point, I'm done until they are out the football club.

foxesfan1989 Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Apparently Pearsons agent was on TalkSport just now, saying something about the fact he wanted a statement from the Thais saying 'Arry was never offered the job. Anyone hear this??
dibbdroid Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 This story is just the press rehashing another story from a few weeks ago, can we close the thread now? http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/83719-richard-keys-talksport/

But that's nothing like what your original point seemed to be. You were talking about the principle of having someone lined up to replace someone, which is a completely different issue. I've read my first post again and I can't see how you get to that conclusion, to be honest. I thought I was consistent throughout this 'chain' in saying it's not right or wrong - just that we can't have it both ways. Either way, it doesn't matter. What will happen will happen ! (Or already has).
Happy Fox Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 The Thais are very deceitful I have no doubt we have held informal talks with Harry Redknapp according to sources on here, and the Thais don't want to comment on speculation, can only see one way this is going and that is NP leaving which would be a shame and this group of players are very talented and have the tools imo to get us promotion either way I hope this doesn't affect our season. You don't speak to other people when you have a manager in the job unless you are considering sacking him, the whole situation seems a bit strange the Thais either back him or sack him the more time this runs on it isn't going to help us.

Ric Flair Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 This sort of shit often helps galvanise a team and their manager, I hope it does with Pearson and the lads. A big fook you to the media and The Thai's if we win again on Saturday and possibly go top (excuse the pun). If the Thai's have had talks with Harry then I can only assume it was a while back when we were struggling and many at the time wouldn't have objected to such a thing. It's dodgy ground though doing that if it becomes public and the current manager is still in position, where do they go from there? I hope this is resolved before it get's out of hand. If the Thai's can come out and put this story to bed it would be better for all concerned.
AyewJoking Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 But recent results give the impression that "just staying up" isn't going to be the case, we're ****ing 2nd for gods sake! maybe you were joking but getting carried away on 2nd after less than 1 quarter of the season is similarly as bad to those who were all doom and gloom 4 games ago (myself included)
dibbdroid Posted 4 October 2012 Posted 4 October 2012 Harry Redknapp has been linked with England, Ipswich and possibly the Prime Minister job before now and is currently linked with three other roles apart from the awful hash up story about coming to Leicester. The Daily Mail seem to enjoy mentioning his name wherever possible so I wonder if the two parties don't have some form of mutual management or Harry has a very busy Press Agent.
