Let's Have a Statement From The Thais About Pearson's Job Being Safe

I think the owners spend a fair bit of time in Thailand from time to time. I'm not worried that they don't attend every game.

SSN says Harry Redknapp talks about his future after the break, probably in another half an hour then.

EXCLUSIVE

By Alex Labidou

Harry Redknapp is open to the possibility of managing the New York Red Bulls, but the formerTottenham boss will not express a formal interest in the position until the future of current coach Hans Backe has been resolved, Goal.com can reveal.

Speculation over the future of Red Bulls head coach Backe continues to grow with the arrival of new general manager Jerome de Bontin.

Backe is in his final year of his three-year contract with the Red Bulls and it is speculated that De Bontin will want to hire his own coach unless the 60-year-old delivers an MLS Cup this season.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the Red Bulls have already reached out to a candidate who has Premier League experience. Though the identity of that coach remains unknown, one potential option could be Harry Redknapp.

"Out of respect, Harry wouldn't express an interest in any position while someone else is currently in the job," a source close to the former Tottenham coach revealed.

Redknapp hasn't been approached by either the Red Bulls or De Bontin yet but does have a fondness for the New York club and Major League Soccer. The 65-year-old was effusive in his praise of Red Bull Arena during Tottenham's first trip to the venue in 2010. Redknapp also played in the old NASL version of the Seattle Sounders, the former midfielder making 24 appearances for the club.

Though some observers believe that Redknapp would not be interested in coaching in North America and wants to remain in England, the source refuted that belief. "Harry wants to coach a team with talented players, in a top division. It doesn't necessarily have to be in England," the source said.

Even if the position becomes available, there would be some challenges in bringing Redknapp to New York.

First, the manager is known for his wheeling and dealing during transfer windows and the salary cap of MLS teams would likely be a turn off. Second, if the Red Bulls have had issues in the past with Backe's open nature with the media, imagine the difficulty in handling Redknapp, who has never been one to shy away from a recorder. Lastly, Redknapp wouldn't come cheaply and would likely demand a salary of at least $3 million (£1.9m) per season.

Still, the recruitment of Redknapp could help the club in its ambitions. It is no secret that the Red Bulls are interested in Real Madrid midfielder Kaka. The Brazilian's agent told theNew York Post that his client would consider a move to the Big Apple in 2014. Having a seasoned well-known manager like Redknapp would only be more enticing for the former World Player of the Year. Also, it is rumored that Thierry Henry has a good relationship with the currently unemployed coach.

As for Backe's end, a source close to the coach told Goal.com that the Red Bulls haven't started conversations about a possible extension, leaving his future uncertain with the club. Red Bulls lead executive Gerard Houllier was unavailable for comment on Backe's future.

i wonder if he'd refuse to enter into discussions/negotiations behind close doors out of respect for someone already in a job?

Didn't see it myself but apparently 'Arry was just on SSN saying he's never met anyone from Leicester and the stories are made up. Make of that what you will

there we go then

Story killed stone dead by actually using basic journalism skills and asking one of the parties involved... Therefore People, Star & Mail were lying, it probably all came about from that dribble on this forum and has span out of control from there because newpapers are more interested in hits/sales than printing truth, was obvious though because not a single time the story was printed did it have a source

the results is the statement in itself ! the thais and everyone else cannot argue with results . they make and break every manager . 2nd in the league aint bad . a statement now from the thais when in 2nd position might be a little different if we slump . these are business men , what do you expect ?

Harry wouldn't be interested in the Leicester job not unless Milan was to return and make a generous tax free donation into 1 of his foreign bank accounts

Mickey Walsh has urged Leicester to release a statement and show their continued support of manager Nigel Pearson.

The former legend manages the City boss and has responded to rumours that the club had a meeting with free-agent Harry Redknapp.

Walsh told Keys & Gray: “Whether it is true or not, it was a rumour, but it came from a good source which I believed. There had been a meeting - between Harry and Leicester - and I discussed it with Nigel.â€

All he [Nigel] can do is win football matches

— Mickey Walsh

Asked how Pearson was coping with the speculation, he said: “He wasn’t too pleased, obviously, if it was true but it’s different to substantiate these things when other people might deny it. You’ve got to be careful of accusing people of doing these things when you’re not 100% sure because you weren’t at that meeting.â€

The club have won six of their first nine games and are one point behind Cardiff, who sit at the top of the Championship table.

Walsh said: “Nigel will just get on and do his job and win football matches. The fans were chanting his name the other night. It’s an irritant more than anything.

"They’re doing fantastic and he’s one of the best managers around. The players aren’t distracted, they’ve played some good stuff. They look like they’re on the up.â€

Can some one let us know in short what's been going on so far today, got a feeling I'm not going to like it based on Happy Fox's post up there but would rather not have to go back through too many pages.

Any updates Grey Fox?

SSN, denied any contact with anyone from leicester, said everything is just made up

Basically story is dead & never was alive, but that won't stop daily mail and others putting unsourced stories up for hits

Pearson's agent has been on Talksport and has said that he's had it on good authority that Redknapp met the Thai's a few weeks ago and wants them to release a statement whether this is true or not. Redknapp has been on SSN apparently and denied any contact with us and that he'd not be interested anyway.

Sounds likely, to me, that they met and talked about the potential after the Wolves loss then. Whilst I'm pretty sure we'll be sticking with Pearson now, I can't help but feel that he isn't going to feel to comfortable with this at all, very unproffesional of the owners. Wouldn't surprise me if Pearson took the next job that came his way which would be a shame because he's doing a great job.

He already left once when Sousa was being wined & dined

Now, assuming Harry is lying & he did meet with the owners and he's told them he's not interested because he doesn't want to move from Sandbanks or he wants to take a big European/US job, then they've basically put Nige in the same situation he was in before.... and all for nothing because he's not interested... very unproffesional

What's more worrying is Shearer & Dowie have also been mentioned (assuming there's truth in the story and it's not all just for hits)

Anyway, the ferocity of the crowd in the 0-3 defeat by Millwall may have hastened Sven's departure... so the ferociousness of the support in favour of the way things are going on saturday may go towards the opposite... If they're there of course.

Whilst I agree that the Thais alleged behaviour is morally wrong, and with hindsight, utterly ridiculous, the last thing it was is unprofessional.

If they were thinking of sacking Pearson, then not having sounded out a replacement could have led to a similar situation to last year when we went 10% of the season without a manager. If they were so desperate to get promotion that they were thinking of changing manager after 5 games, wasting more time on bringing in a replacement would be nuts.

That said, I am completely behind Pearson and what he's doing at the club. The problem is less that the Thais allegedly spoke to a potential new manager when thinking of sacking the incumbent one and more that they were thinking of sacking the incumbent one in the first place, when he was actually doing a pretty bloody good job. Despite the results, it was obvious to anybody with a quarter of a braincell that we were playing well and the results would come.

I will not go to watch us play under Redknapp and I'd have serious reservations about going to watch us play under anybody again this season if Pearson gets the sack. I'll be demanding a refund on my season ticket and all. What makes it all the more sad is that I can't go this Saturday, so if the worst happens, my last game for the season might have been the Wolves game.

I hope everyone gets behind Pearson on Saturday. Hopefully we can get the message across that this sort of knee-jerk reaction is not what will make our club a success, and is not what the supporters want. I am sick to death if us getting a new manager every October.
