Parafox Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I've often wondered about the point of various things, today it happened to be this... What's the point of walking poles? I saw 2 people the other week walking through Dovedale on a tarmac path with these things. They weren't going off the path because we passed them again on the way back to the car park. So what's the point of them? It's not as if we live on the slopes of the Himalayas. Any other FT'ers got anything you would question the point/validity of? No pops at fellow forum members !!
davieG Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 What's a walking pole? Is it a long walking stick?
Reynard Bleu Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I'm not sure but think its to pick up litter as they walk?
Parafox Posted 17 October 2012 Author Posted 17 October 2012 People usually have 2, one in each hand. They are long poles with pointy tips that people use when hill walking (usually) although I can't see the need myself. They're kind of extended ski poles.
notnow john Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 They are spring loaded supposed to take the strain off your joints. (Yeah I know you could keep them in a tin)
Webbo Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I think alpine walking(walking with 2 ski poles) is a kind of exercise fad.

MooseBreath Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 I tried walking poles once but they put up a hell of a struggle when I tried to put a collar on them.

Parafox Posted 17 October 2012 Author Posted 17 October 2012 What is the point of leaf blowers? The wind will blow them away. All they do is move them about.
purpleronnie Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 What is the point of leaf blowers? The wind will blow them away. All they do is move them about. Your suppose to blow them into a pile then get rid of them....like raking them.

ADK Posted 17 October 2012 Posted 17 October 2012 Walking poles take the strain off your knees, or they could be doing nordic walking which is where you use both the poles and your legs to propel yourself forward kind of like using an eliptical/cross trainer. Not sure about leaf blowers i think they might be for blowing leaves though? Glad i could help.
Parafox Posted 17 October 2012 Author Posted 17 October 2012 What's the point of having a roof over your stadium then not bothering to close it? What's the point of having a "tele-conference" with only 2 people. Surely thats a conversation? What's the point of Alan Green?
