notnow john Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Sven applied for then vacant managers job at div. one Hartlepool united but was unsuccessful! These are the people that couldn't tell the difference between a monkey and a Frenchman ,yet They had no trouble differentiating between Sven and football manager.
Dan Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Hartlepool made the right move. The job he did at us is one of the worst I've seen so I'm not surprised they steered clear.
Mack Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 I cant agree with that. I would say he was out of his area of expertise in the championship but I wouldn't say it was one of the worst I have seen. Levein however.. or Taylor!

The job he did at us is one of the worst I've seen so I'm not surprised they steered clear. and there is another sweeping statement from a fickle football fan. You obviously didn't support Leicester under the Peter Taylor or Craig Levein days, and I dare say other clubs have experienced worse managers than those two. I wouldn't claim Sven did a great job here, not for one second but he did ok and a lot better than some. But then again you always get the 'he is the worst manager in our history' merchants.

Soar Fox Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 We played some of the best football I've ever saw down the KP when Sven was in charge. If only he hadn't tinkered with the team so much bringing in and starting players who he had signed on loan. Patrick Van Aanholt wasn't good enough, Jeffrey Bruma was better in midfield but he played him at centre half, Ricardo he gave him the number 1 shirt straight the way when Weale was actually in good form. One thing that I did get pissed off with was when he dropped Miguel Vitor after scoring a couple of goals and a MOTM performance against Scunthorpe he then dropped him.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Sven should retire. Time to call it a day.
RonnieTodger Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Surely there's a few more Asian owners/tycoons he can fool into paying him a lengthy and wealthy contract by showing them a pre-2008 CV.
stevelcfc Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 I've heard he's applied for the scottish job.
Corky Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Hartlepool made the right move. The job he did at us is one of the worst I've seen so I'm not surprised they steered clear. Yet we played some sparkling football in his tenure.
foxfanazer Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Yet we played some sparkling football in his tenure. Did we? I was never really that impressed tbh. Not being deliberately anti Sven but I just think its a bit of a myth that we played stylish continental style football. Just my opinion of course Yet we played some sparkling football in his tenure. Not being deliberately anti Sven but I just think its a bit of a myth that we played stylish continental style football. Just my opinion of course We played some very entertaining football. Barnsley away 2-0 win, Doncaster 5-1 win, Millwall 4-2 win, Burnley 4-0 win, Derby 4-0 win, Derby 2-0 away win. We had some shockers but we also were great to watch at times. He didn't do a great job really, but he's certainly not one of the worst ever.

Aus Fox Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Hartlepool made the right move. The job he did at us is one of the worst I've seen so I'm not surprised they steered clear. McClintock pleat Taylor Levine Kelly to name 5 of the top of my head far worse.
notnow john Posted 16 November 2012 Author Posted 16 November 2012 Only Peter Taylor can challenge Sven for the worst manager if you take in to account results against money spent. Kelly was a coach who said at the time that he wasn't comfortable being manger. Still coaching in the championship. Craig Levein had very little money played crap football but subsequently revealed himself to be a tactical genius inventing a system copied by the world and European champions Spain ( no strikers)
Guest Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 Craig Levein had very little money played crap football but subsequently revealed himself to be a tactical genius Boring City fans to tears for a couple of years does not make one a genius, tactically or otherwise
Aus Fox Posted 16 November 2012 Posted 16 November 2012 If you go on what really matters only Nigel Pearson has a better win ratio than Sven since frank o Farrell. Others such as little and o Neil won things and achieved more. Sven wasn't a great manager and didn't achieve as much as he should have but to say he is the worst you've seen is a joke unless you've only seen Sven and nigel
Fox92 Posted 17 November 2012 Posted 17 November 2012 I wouldn't say Sven is the worst manager I've seen (I remember the likes of Levien and Kelly, etc), but I still get nightmares taking into consideration how much money Sven spent, especially against the points return. I never get the love in for Sven either. Just another manager to me, he certainly isn't a legend/hero.
OzFox Posted 17 November 2012 Posted 17 November 2012 He's been mentioned as a candidate for the Sydney FC job. They've got bags of cash, a leaky defence and no particular playing style. Could be a good fit.
5waller5 Posted 18 November 2012 Posted 18 November 2012 According to FLS. Wow. I loved Sven .... that's just a bit embarrassing though.
