Webbo Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 What's your favourite shop, past or present? For me I love Melton ironmongers on Melton Road. Whatever I need in the hardware department he always seems to have 1 in stock. I could spend an hour in there just looking at the stuff on the shelves.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 When I was a kid, The Best Sellers in wigston - many a school craze came from that shop. Yo-yo's, baby gooey alien things, spud guns...
Voll Blau Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Barclay Sports or Pedulum Records in Harborough. Hate the way the town centre's gone, just a clone of every other high street in the country now...
pSinatra Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 When I was a nipper.......Roy's Sports in Wigston. An Aladdin's cave of all things sport. Footie boots, trainers, my first football strip, Subbuteo, snooker cues, etc, etc. All in a shop no bigger than your downstairs toilet!!
Night Air Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Argos, I like the whole catalogue thing they do, every shop should do the same.

I got my first boots (umbro), shinnies (sondico) and goalie gloves (sondico) from there also. But the Wigston shop I miss the most is the Oven Door.... Best doughnuts and iced fingers ever!!!

SystonFox Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 That toy shop that was at the far end of the old shires lower floor. Had a train track that went round the roof and I remember drooling over segamega drive in there Was it called Beatties?
Poznan34 Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Argos, I like the whole catalogue thing they do, every shop should do the same. I find it a bit tacky, I try to avoid it.
Captain... Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Left legged pineapple The gadget shop Don't think either are still around now.
Guest MattP Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Rockaboom, still get as much of my music there as I can, The Gadget shop was pretty good as well. Used to love Limeys for decent clobber in St Martins. Now it's probably the Boss shop near the Highcross, only reason I go into town, fantastic staff, some great gear and most of it you can't get online. Fame fashions.
FoxyPV Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 The long closed Leisure World. Three stories of insane toys.
davieG Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Redmayne & Todd, London R. & Sports Ltd Belvoir St. I don't think there's any favourite now although I quite like a quick browse around Broughton's Ironmongers in Anstey reminds me of my apprenticeship.
Monk Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 Left legged pineapple The gadget shop Don't think either are still around now. the LLP was one of my favourite places to go browse through tonnes of music. They had an amazing back catalogue too, and over time I built up a fairly big collection of Foo Fighters rarities from there. The owner... Jason I think his name was shut up shop must be at least 5 years ago now. A real shame.
The Doctor Posted 12 December 2012 Posted 12 December 2012 The gadget shop Don't think either are still around now. That's called Red5 now or something isn't it? In the lower shires?
Zingari Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 I used to love the old Lewis's, Irish menswear , Heffords( gear shop) and Neals (that warehouse type of shop just off Hinckley Road) I also used to like all the old tat shops on Wharf street and Charnwood road
Alf Bentley Posted 13 December 2012 Posted 13 December 2012 "The Offie" on Clarendon Park Road - independent off-licence with a superb range of British & foreign ales. An honourable mention for Rockaboom and for Christopher James Deli on Queens Road (superb chorizo sausage). The way our finances are going, though, I'll be spending a lot of time in Oxfam very soon...
