Guest Col city fan Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Last night was much better. Other than about 25 minutes in the second half where we backed off and let Blackburn come at us (not that they seemed to have anything to come at us with) we were in complete control of that game. King was an absolutely key part in that. I had to leave early last night so missed his goal, but his use of the ball and positional play was absolutely excellent. He moved the ball quickly and accurately all night, even switching the play well a couple of times. Marshall's contribution was also vastly improved. 2 great crosses for the first 2 goals, a lovely through ball which Wood arguably should have made more of at the end of the first half and he generally looked lively throughout. Schmeichel's save was good but I'm not sure that I quite get all the praise it seems to be getting. Looked like he had it covered all along to me and that it was a bit of a save for the cameras. I'm sure others disagree. It was an odd game in that there was barely a foul over the 90 minutes. Whether this was because of Blackburn's insipid display, good refereeing, our judicious use of the ball or all three is open to debate, but it's a welcome three points ahead of a tough but winnable fixture on Saturday. If by "giving it some" you mean "standing in complete silence" for a solid 10-15 stretch then I completely agree. Last night was a typical game in which King can shine. We were controlling things, and King had time to do what he does best. He is an intelligent player. Put him on the backfoot, in games where WE are under lots of pressure and he loses his efficacy. The two sides of Andy King, for me, is and always has been clear.

But you said earlier in the season that Blackburn wouldn't be a fixture you'd play him in because he'd get muscled off the ball by the likes of Murphy and he wouldn't be able to influence the midfield? We were controlling things last night because King had a great game, he was a big contributing factor - it wasn't in spite of him.
MC Prussian Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Who was the ref. Let a lot go and never went to his pocket once i dont think. It's great, isn't it? Just shows how a proper game of football can develop when one or both sides play it fair and aren't constantly hampered by silly refereeing decisions.
beemeroo Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Great result. I really thought this would prove difficult, but it sounded like we took the match to them and played it on our terms. If nothing else it means I can happily read threads on foxestalk without being confronted with mountains of negativity.

marbelladave Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Interesting game. Nugent out so straight back to 4-4-2, but for once we had the right players in the right positions....... Wide men on the 'correct' side for getting in crosses and 2 big men up top, tactically medieval but effective on the night. We have tried to play this way often enough this season but without Wood and now Kane to attack the ball it was a waste of time. A little bit worried when we eased off in the middle of the second half but a poor Blackburn rarely troubled, despite plenty of possesion but we did come back strongly culminating in King's goal.......... One word of caution though, there will be few teams prepared to give our midfield the amount of space they had last night so I'm not getting carried away.......

Really? Honestly? Wow. I am shocked to the core.
foxfanazer Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Back to back clean sheets is a promising sign also. Hopefully we already have the mental edge over Ipswich after thrashing them last time

Looked like he had it covered all along to me and that it was a bit of a save for the cameras. I'm sure others disagree. From behind him in the Kop, it looked very good indeed. It took a significant deflection to his right and upwards. He was diving to his left and had to pull back to his right and gain extra height in mid-air...and still get enough strength on his touch to tip it over. Best save I've seen this season, I'd say.

The Guvnor Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Nice to get three headed goals, with two from corners, something we have struggled with. Lets hope the start of a good run which we all know we are capable of.
kylestyle06 Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 First time I heard people singing the Chris Wood song ! Good that everyone got it going
harpendenfox Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Does Nige simply hate doing media interviews, or is it young Stringer who brings out his grumpy side, not that, I should add, that Stringer, asks him anything particularly difficult or disrespectful?
foxfanazer Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Stringer hasn't got enough tact. He really does ask some stupid questions sometimes
Babylon Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Does Nige simply hate doing media interviews, or is it young Stringer who brings out his grumpy side, not that, I should add, that Stringer, asks him anything particularly difficult or disrespectful? Would you want to be interviewed by the wally in the hat?
foxfanazer Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Would you want to be interviewed by the wally in the hat? How pissed off does Nige look there!
Loggy88 Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Great win, a much needed 3 points. Really pleased to see King score, only been a bit part player recently but he still a quality player who has more of a goal threat then Drinky or James, even though they are good as well.
5waller5 Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 How pissed off does Nige look there! I didn't realise that stringer looked as much of a nob as he sounds! That body language from NP is just pure hatred for the bloke .... Radio Leicester should send someone else to interview him - it's just stupid to send someone he so clearly despises to try and get a sensible reaction to the game.

cc_star Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 and people wonder why Pearson sounds so dull in interviews! When we have televised games I think he comes across really well and has a bit if a laught with the interviewer Yep, he always has a bit of a joke & talks more freely with TV interviewers - or seemingly anyone other than Stringer Stringer is a real hindrance for us fans... not only is his commentary awful at describing the action, even in comparison to someone like Jason Bourne who has no experience - but he can't convey any information from the manager to the fans. His questions are frequently awful... and then he repeats them thinking 'it's for the fans' if I get an answer... when most of the time the sort of pushing he does is on private matters like an injury to a key player in the build up to tough games - it's obviously the sort of thing a manager wants to keep under his hat.
MooseBreath Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 It's great, isn't it? Just shows how a proper game of football can develop when one or both sides play it fair and aren't constantly hampered by silly refereeing decisions. Not really. We had a similar ref the other week who also wanted an easy night and so just let everything go. Cost us a penalty and saved them a red card. If the game is played in good spirits then yes the referee can get away with not doing anything, but for most games you need a ref who is not afraid to apply the rules.

I think I'd simply encourage Nige to forget what he feels for the interviewer, and talk direct, as it were, to the fans who are listening, as we do like to hear the thoughts of our leader, whatever the result
Simmo86 Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Thought Nige was going to bite when Stringer asked him about King's 'new role' this season. Ended up getting off quite lightly.

flowwolf Posted 27 February 2013 Posted 27 February 2013 Superb, great result, back on track, more than 2 points a game this year, really hope that the negative Nellies have learn to have a bit of perspective, 2 defeats in 9 league games this year. Come on folks let's not get carried away by one result we have seen enough false dawns already. If this is still happening in three or four matches from now then we will have good reason to get excited but for the moment curb your enthusiasm, that way you won't get hurt.
