broughtonblue Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Not saying i hate my job (and in the current climate i realise im fortunate to have a hopefully pretty secure one!) but does anyone else get to work on a monday morning and think 'only 4 more days to the weekend' If only my job was connected to a hobby, something i could enjoy!
Donut Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 If youre having these thoughts, youre effectively wasting 5/7ths of your life, and you need to try and make a change
ozleicester Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 work is just that... work. There are few people in the world lucky enough to be doing something they really enjoy, most of us know that we are working to live. So make the most of the good stuff at work, push through the bad. Every week it is 40 hours out of 168 - make the other 148 really count! Only 3 more days till the weekend

Only 3 more days till the weekend 168-40=128, hope that the 40 hours you spend working a week are not as an accountant, sorry to be a pedantic arse but I'm in a bad mood

FoxesAreBlue Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Sorry to be a pr!ck, but I'm one of the lucky ones, whilst my job can get stressful at certain times (like any job), I do genuinely love it.
Jon the Hat Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I don't love my job, but I enjoy it, and it is rewarding financially and intellectually. I think you have to look for balance. You need to earn to enjoy the non work parts of your life. Find something which enables that and doesn't make you miserable and you are moving in the right direction.
goose2010 Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I'm a bit the same I don't love it but I do enjoy some aspects of it. But I don't see it as I'm wasting my life in a job I don't love, i come to work to get paid to do the things I love. I would say the people that work 60/70 hours a week because they love their jobs are the ones wasting their lives. I am a massive believer in working to live, not living to work.
Reynard Bleu Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Since leaving the Army I find work dull and unfulfilling. It was terribly satisfying invading places and shooting up the populus.
MooseBreath Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I detest my current job with serious fury, but I've enjoyed other jobs. It's definitely about balance.
FoxyPV Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Since leaving the Army I find work dull and unfulfilling. It was terribly satisfying invading places and shooting up the populus. I like my my job and find some aspects of it interesting but it is about as mentally challenging as watching paint dry because I know it inside out. On the other hand I work 8-4,can't bring my work home and get paid enough.
z-layrex Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I actually look forward to work, but I love my job. Obviously some days I just cant be arsed but thats just human. If youre dreading the working week it's time to look elsewhere. Life's too short to hate your job as you spend too much time there to be miserable!
Fox92 Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 If only my job was connected to a hobby, something i could enjoy! This is actually what I want, hence I'm studying for something I want to do and therefore enjoy. "If you do something you love you'll never work a day in your life".
Guest Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Anyone who can get a job that they enjoy is going to have a much better life than anyone who can't. I enjoy a lot about my job but detest the travelling and admin. I really enjoy the time that my job allows me to be free to do whatever I want. It is NOT my ideal job but overall I'm one very lucky guy.
The Guvnor Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I am extremely proud, and fortunate, to have served as a British Firefighter for the past 29 years,it has to be one of the best jobs out there.
Alexikokopops Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 At times my job annoys me, at times I really enjoy it. One thing that is constant is that I enjoy the company of the people I work with so even if I'm having a bad day it's not too shabby. Plus I can cycle or walk into work and escape to wander around central London so there's perks beyond the job itself.
Finnegan Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 My job is ****ing awful but I love a couple of my coworkers enough to keep turning up.
Samilktray Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I get no satisfaction from turning up to work everyday and would happily quit and go on the dole if I was given enough to fund my lifestyle.

ithuriel Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 Where i work, it is dangerous, just last week someone broke their foot and I was hospitalised with a serious hand injury about six years ago and it is dirty. Everyday you need to shower first thing after getting home due to the smell of the oil lingering on you and it is high pressure. I also work the evening shift so during the week I have no social life, at present I leave home just gone 1pm and get home heading towards 1am. I hate it with a passion but until things pick up with the economy it will have to suffice.
pSinatra Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I'm self-employed & I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. I can honestly say that it doesn't feel like work & even if I won the lottery I would carry on......but for free or for charity. I went to university, got a job that was well paid & just seemed to plod along. Out of nowhere I was made redundant & although I didn't think so at the time, it is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me. To get by, I took up a gardening job with a local council & loved it. From being stuck in an office all day staring at a computer.......to out in the community, in the fresh air, no two days the same & interacting with different people. I have been self-employed for a few years now & I don't earn mega-money, but enough not to worry. Money is the least of my concerns. It's all about doing the best job I can for my customers (who I also consider friends). A lot of my customers are elderly & don't get many visitors. They are pleased to see me & I spend a bit of time with them when I could probably be working. Although I'm a gardener, I end up doing all sorts of jobs just to help them out......plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc. The job keeps me fit, I get a decent tan, I'm never ill & I feel like I am doing something worthwhile. It's difficult to find something that also makes you happy & I consider myself very fortunate. I am probably the world's worst businessman & could be charging twice what I do. I do far too many favours for people........but it isn't about the money & I couldn't be happier. I am very lucky!!

Some elderly people are so alone and people like you bring so much to their lives. Often the gardener and lady from the council who comes in to clean can be the only people someone sees all week.

I've been to several funerals in my time & I can get some funny looks off the family - that I'm only the gardener & that I must enjoy the misery of funerals or something?? When the truth is, I probably spent more time with them than the family did. I suppose the point I was trying to make, that although life may not be as you expected............you never know what is around the corner. It may be worth taking a step backwards before you can take several steps forward.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 March 2013 Posted 6 March 2013 I love my job really. PLumbers salaries don't correlate with the level of responsibility placed upon them though. Our bosses are brilliant and the lads I work with are top notch bar one. It's also satisfying getting something finished to a high standard and think 'I did that' Can't complain at all

I'm not going to lie.. that sounds amazing, I've worked in a office before and I've never been so bored in my life! I'm just a waiter at the moment but I enjoy it so much more being more active, speaking to people face to face. I start my new job in April witch I really can't wait to start!
