Fox in the North Posted 30 April 2013 Author Posted 30 April 2013 With Gatland I thought that was always going to be inevitable. Pretty decent contingent form Leicester Tigers though!
Guest Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Ex Welsh coach picks his team. other than that I think Wilko has merited a call up with his play this season much better than the players selected in his position (and I'm no Wilko fan).
RobHawk Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Surprised by a few of the English picks more than anything else! I think another number 10 should have gone! I think the Welsh players who were called up deserve to be there to be honest! they are the best team in the UK and Gatland knows what they can do!

Apparently said himself to Gatland (or a representative or whoever) that his body wasn't up to a full tour.
Haydos Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 "The truth is Jonny wasn't up for it. He ruled himself out. He told Warren that he feels his body isn't in right shape to complete a tour like this. I admire his honesty & integrity. He cd be available as inj replcmt"
FoxyPV Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 No Rory Best?! I thought Robshaw deserved a place given he was one of England's most consistent performers.
Finnegan Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Wilko plays in France, Wilko not picked. Not good enough anymore, anyway, would be second choice for England even if he played at home. He's also left out the Six Nations form scrum half, Phillips, because he plays in France so he can't really be accused of bias. We've won two consecutive tournaments, got further than everyone else at the world cup and have three Grand Slams in eight years. Anyone moaning that there's more Welsh than English needs to wake up and get a reality check. Gats is unafraid of controversy, he'd happily leave Welsh stars at home if they were off form. He's taken Farrell over Shaun Edwards for ****s sakes. Overall I like the squad, besides the lack of Phillips, and any Tigers fan should too. Knew Robshaw wouldn't go, hugely overhyped purely because he's an okay captain.
RonnieTodger Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Surprised and disappointed at Robshaw being left out. Certainly wasn't expecting him to captain the side but hoped he'd play a part.

I thought that Wilkinson was always going to miss out because of his commitments to Toulon meaning he wouldn't be with the whole squad for the entire tour. He would have to join up later, and so Gatland was always going to leave him out. Surprised at Warburton getting the captaincy there.

He would have to join up later, and so Gatland was always going to leave him out. Yep that was what they were discussing on the radio this morning. Gatland said he would only take people available for the whole tour and the French season doesn't finish until after the tour starts. As such he could be a reserve but no more...
Father Ted Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 No Robshaw ahead of Tipuric No Ashton either, surprised at that.
Harry - LCFC Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Thought this was going to be about what team Millwall might pick to play against Palace tonight. Disappointed.
Super_horns Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 6 mid-week games before the 1st test - that is a good chance to work out what exactly is the best team. How would people rate our chances?
Finnegan Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 No Robshaw ahead of Tipuric No Ashton either, surprised at that. If you're surprised at Ashton not being included, you don't watch rugby. Ashton's mum isn't surprised he's not included. He's been absolute dog for England for ages. And Tipuric is better than Robshaw, period. Hero of the Croat people.
Sparky Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 No Tom Wood is my biggest gripe. Barmy call. Heres my test XI out of that. 15. Halfpenny 14. Bowe 13. Tuilagi 12. Davies 11. North 10. Sexton 9. Phillips 1. Healy 2. Hibbard 3. Cole 4. O Connell 5. Parling 6. Croft 7. Warburton 8. Heaslip O Driscoll, Faletau just miss out

Finnegan Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Good spot. How the **** did I miss that? Apologies to all, I can't read!
Finnegan Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 As for your 15, I'll be massively surprised if Gats goes with any less than two - if not three - Welsh front rows. I'm undecided on Tuilagi. I can't help but feel he'll have less impact against a Southern hemisphere side who are far more used to that physicality. But then the alternative is Roberts who's much the same approach.
Bert Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Wouldn't have had Warburton as captain myself. Squad looks fairly decent though.
Tielemans63 Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Surprised that Maitland got the call - I thought Zebo would have been a better call on the wing but then I guess there'd be a serious lack of Jocks in the squad - although Maitland is pretty kiwi ish to be fair. God knows how Hartley is in over Best - shocking decision. Hartley is gash.
Finnegan Posted 1 May 2013 Posted 1 May 2013 Wouldn't have had Warburton as captain myself. Squad looks fairly decent though. I probably wouldn't either, I think he plays better without the captaincy. Geth or Wyn Jones maybe.
