NewburyFox Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Pete O'Rourke @SkySportsPeteO Burnley boss Sean Dyche confirms that Brighton striker Ashley Barnes is having a medical at Turf Moor. #clarets #bhafc Someone on their way out? You'd think so, with Ings and Vokes he'd just sit on the bench.
Fox92 Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 He said the other week they were after Barnes. I'm suprised a Premier League side haven't looked at Ings though. He looks like a complete striker.
lancyclaret Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Burnley fan here - apparently we are trying to get Ashley Barnes and a fee has been agreed with Brighton for somewhere in the region of £800,000. We had three summer bids rejected but Barnes is out of contract in the summer. He has had a medical but Leeds have made a late bit and may get him because they were once "champions of Europe around 1975" Apart from Ings and Vokes, we have NO senior striker - Ryan Noble (the Sunderland reject) is the only alternative and he is so bad he cannot get a place on the bench or a game for the Development squad now:(. Charlie Austin and Martin Paterson, first and second choice ahead of Ings and Vokes last season) have not been replaced even with a loan player so we have been extremely lucky Ings and Vokes have remained free from serious injury or suspension. Ings missed one game with ankle knock and we only drew 0-0 at home to low-on-confidence Watford. Dyche played Vokes as a lone striker but we still had more chances to win than Watford who nearly did a smash and grab late on. Vokes this week signed a contract extension to 2016 while the club want to keep Ings until the summer. His deal expires in July, 2015. Most people at Burnley think Ings will stay for the rest of this season unless someone makes a ridiculously high offer (and I mean more than the £4 million QPR paid for Austin). Saints paid £7 million for Rodriguez and Burnley value Ings just as highly as Danny is still only 21. Remember Palace paid £9 million ? for Dwight Gayle. Most Clarets fans would be happy with a play-off spot (we have an impressive record with 2 final wins and only one failure out of 3), but I still think we could sneak 2nd spot ahead of QPR and Derby. Therefore a Leicester win tomorrow night would be a good result if we are to finish above Derby. I still think the Foxes and QPR will get the two top spots, but if we strengthen this month and keep the key players injury-free, we might still surprise the people who are convinced we will fade away like in 2001-2002. 50 points from 25 games at Xmas and we only finished 7th:(
Dan Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Why have you lot struggled to strengthen up until now? Like you say, you've raked in a lot of money there. You didn't go mad when you reached the Premier League which is often a good thing where money is concerned. Good luck to you lot. It's safe to say I'd rather Burnley got 2nd than Derby, Forest or QPR (although that says very little)
KFS Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 If Burnley, us or Derby got promoted we'd all be in a good place. Relatively debt free, good facilities.
Buce Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 @Lancy: Unless my memory is completely shot, Leeds were never champions of Europe. I do recall them being robbed in the final circa '75 though.
tartanowl Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 We are nailed on for the drop if Connor leaves. Without him we would be clear bottom of the league. I'm not convinced Forest would be a good move for him he's already at a bigger club in Sunderland and I genuinely believe he is good enough to get in their team in the Prem and especially with Fletcher injured. I suppose it comes down to the manager but he's an incredible talent and still only 20. Far better for us than Ross Barkley was and look where he is now. If Forest pull that off they've got a steal.

It's safe to say I'd rather Burnley got 2nd than Derby, Forest or QPR (although that says very little) Burnley have cut their cloth and reduced players' wages and we now comply with FFP unlike some clubs like Forest/Bolton/Blackburn. A lot of the Premier League money was swallowed by directors' claiming back loans in FULL and we had to pay £4 million interest on a loan to an Irish bank after one of our director's went bankrupt (Brendan Flood). Also, Brian Laws was a disastrous choice of manager who wasted the first season's parachute money on donkeys like Chris Iwelumo, Leon Cort and Danny Fox who were all on huge wages after we were relegated. I have been a Burnley fan for more than 40 years and we have mainly sold players at a profit and bought cheaper replacements. I was gutted when we sold Andy Lochhead to Leicester for about £70,000 in the late 60s but we replaced him with an even better player in Frank Casper for £40,000.

Got to see Wickham play quite a few times for Sunderland last season and he was shite. Maybe the step is a bit too much for him as he's been class every time I've seen him play in the Championship. Still younger than people think mind you.

Kitchandro Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Any excuse: That basically ruined his career if my recollection is correct. He was at Wolves at the time wasn't he? Banging in the goals, ripping the league to shreds and getting an international call up to boot. After that he fell of the proverbial cliff and disappeared into relative obscurity.
Super_horns Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Ironically Dyche signed him from Burnley for us! Hardly scored a goal.
lancyclaret Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Brian Laws signed Iwelumo, aged 32, for £500.000 on big wages - we were relieved when Watford gave us £50,000 to take the donkey off our hands......So £450,000 down the drain in effect thanks to the clown Laws. Laws paid £1.2 million for 30-year-old Leon Cort and we gave him away on a free transfer to Charlton. So you can see how easy it is to waste money in the PL with panic buying in January/
rico Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 He tore Matt Mills a new arse when we played against Watford

Larry_LCFC Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Will be peeved if that stupid Scottish dwarf wins manager of the month, purely for that fact, hes a twat.

RedHux Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 But still true! Be that as it may.... Oh, and this is a giggle. (Wet Sham considering a move for BD)
Corky Posted 9 January 2014 Posted 9 January 2014 Where did William get that jumper from? Possibly this man?
