Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Oh yeah, the coverage is great, but the commentary team for TMS is far superior. Hence Sky coverage + TMS commentary = good combo! Can't have it. Nick Knight is awful but Beefy, Gower, Warne, Bumble, Willis and Holding are fantastic. How good is the Sky Sports Ashes channel? They should have this on all year round!
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 First ball will be bowled at 730pm over here, premium viewing time. Wish i had the coin to go over for this first test reckon the atmosphere will be electric when Watto Tons up before lunch on the first day.............I can dream right. Any news who the first test side for your mob will be? Not sure who will be in the Aussie but the bowling line up will be the only certainties i would say are. Watto AND Rogers openning, Clarke at 4, Haddin Keeping and either at 6 or 7. Siddle, Patto, Starc and Lyon as the bowlers and in that order batting. Pretty sure it will be.Cook Root Trott Pietersen Bell Bairstow Prior Broad Swann Anderson Finn Bresnan maybe for Finn is the only possibility of that changing.

When it's getting in to the early hours of the morning and I'm getting a bit tired the last thing i want Bumble is talking in his boring monotone voice about how splendid the lords members look in their attire. Can tell that comment will not win me any friends but seriously he bores me sometimes

I would prefer Bresnan as well if I was an Aussie, Finn can crank it upto 92mph and Bresnan whilst economical isn't anywhere near as much of a wicket threat.

They should have this on all year round! Like Socceroo, can't get along with Bumble. Beefy is always good value though and Holding is superb. But TMS has a battalion of quality commentators. Aggers is amazing, Blowers doesn't know what the fvck he's doing but it's hilarious and Tuffnell is funny but knows a lot about the game. They also have quality guest commentators pretty much all the time.

His style of bowling will trouble us, tall and will get some bounce and carry. We will struggle with him and will give ya slips cordon a fair work out especially the likes of Hughes, Warner and Cowan. It's going to be a big job for Watto and Buck Rogers to try and eat up as many overs as possible every time we bat to try and take the shine off the new ball, to make the middle orders job a lot easier.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 I think Brezzer will get the nod, purely for the chance that it may reverse swing. If that does happen, the Australians are fooked.

Huge, Anderson v Watson could be a major factor is deciding the series. Ideally you don't want Clarke and Warner being exposed to the new ball if it's swinging about. (Not doubting Clarke's ability, but the team need to make it as easy as possible for him to score big)

Will be interesting to see how Strauss does, having won three Ashes series, captaining two, he should have all the available knowledge and experience to provide.

Best of the lot! The Times is worth buying during the cricket just for his articles, wins sports writer of the year virtually every time, absolutely brilliant read.
Corky Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 You obviously don't remember the old BBC coverage of home tests and having to listen to away matches on the radio or watching on teletext. Channel 4 did a pretty good job but when you are missing wickets because they are going over to the Horse Racing it's kind of pointless. Football has been destroyed by Sky but Cricket has hugely benfitted from it, the money has filtered through the game and we have gone from being a national joke to one of the finest sides in the World with the best youth set up in the World. You only live once and if people genuinely would miss out on watching some of the greatest moments in their life because they disagree with the political opinions of the guy who runs the organisation who provides the coverage then god help them . Even Purpleronnie agrees with me when I say Sky is outstanding value for what you pay for it. Though I suppose travelling to South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia to watch them obviously makes me not a true supporter if I want Sky to have the coverage. Completely agree. I've criticised the ECB for the way they've messed around the domestic game but they have put everything into making England a top side. Introducing central contracts, having a proper second team, putting Test cricket as the number one priority, basically forcing the counties to serve the national team primarily have all made England a fine nation in Test cricket again.
Matt Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Buzzing for this now! Didn't like Cricket till a few years ago, still not really into the County game but International/Ashes I love. Really looking forward to it! I'm thinking maybe 3-1 England or 3-2 England.
Guest MattP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Another quick game before tomorrow. Pick your best side out the two teams. Cook Root Trott Pietersen Clarke Watson Prior Starc Broad Swann Anderson Poms 8-3 Convicts
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Cook Root Trott Clarke KP Watson Prior Broad Swann Anderson Pattinson The Mighty Mighty England 8-3 Bogan hoons.
StanSP Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Thoughts on.... Which player will: Score the most runs in 1 innings? Score the most runs in the series? Take the most wickets in a match? Take the most wickets in the series? Take the most catches?
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Most wickets in a match - Broad. He'll have one innings where he absolutely runs through them and picks up a 10-for over both innings.

cambridgefox Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Most wickets in a match - Broad. He'll have one innings where he absolutely runs through them and picks up a 10-for over both innings. Then get spanked for the rest of he tests.Really hot and cold in my opinion.Anderson is a class bowler.
Corky Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Broad takes wickets in bunches, rather than Anderson's whose are more spread out.

Wont disagree with that too much at all.Maybe Clarke could have a big knock or even Root but those you have listed would be who I would choose in fairness. Fooking can't wait. The Ashes is what cricket is about, yeah quick entertainment 20/20 but for skill, tactics, concentration nothing gets close to test cricket and this is the big one.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 July 2013 Posted 9 July 2013 Another quick game before tomorrow. Pick your best side out the two teams. Cook Root Trott Pietersen Clarke Watson Prior Starc Broad Swann Anderson Poms 8-3 Convicts Hard to argue with that team except i would swap Broad with Patto, Patto of he stays fit this next 10 tests in a row that he is the best bowler in the world. Big call i know but the boy has series talent.
