What's the actual reason for banning "Billy's" trumpet?

"A ban on musical instruments at Trent Bridge"

Quite ridiculous to be honest when you see the behaviour that goes on in the stands there.

Thought Trent Bridge was better than that, you might expect it at Lord's but TB, along with Edgbaston and Headingley, is famed for it's atmosphere.

Certainly wasn't quiet on the second day in 2005 when I was there.

Pretty sure it will be.

Cook

Root

Trott

Pietersen

Bell

Bairstow

Prior

Broad

Swann

Bresnan maybe for Finn is the only possibility of that changing.

Agreed, if anything from my experience in the Barmy Army in Auckland he seems to calm the crowd down if anything. Also he creates great atmosphere when it's a big sing along.

Hard to argue with that team except i would swap Broad with Patto, Patto of he stays fit this next 10 tests in a row that he is the best bowler in the world. Big call i know but the boy has series talent.

Wow, thats a huge call!! I have seen him play a few times over the past 3 years both for Australia and The Bushrangers and to call him potentially the best bowler in the world is way wide of the mark. Steyn, Anderson, Philander, Arkamal, Morkel to name a few are all on a different planet. I wouldn't even say he's the best bowler for Victoria.

You do realise i'm talking about James and not his brother Darren right?

Patto is 23 and has only played 27 first class games in 5 years due to injuries. He has an exceptional average and strike rate in FC and Tests of 22-23 and a strike rate 42-43. He is only going to get better as well, needs a bit of luck with his body holding up to have a good run at it and then i think you will be including him as one of the best bowlers in the world.

Also Philander is overated, take him out of South Africa and he is only average.

iI am aware we are talking James, Darren is truly awful!

While he has potential, I do not believe he has done anything yet to warrant being spoken about amongst the top bowlers in the world. If I was picking a side and the last place was a toss up between Philander and Patto Philander would play every time. Patto needs a couple of good series under his belt, happy to have this conversation again after 5 tests and happy to admit I was wrong if he has a huge series.

Don't think it will be as easy to beat the Aussies as some have predicted but reckon our quality will lead us to a 3-1 win.

Certainly think Australia's bowlers will be more of a threat than we think - if they stay fit.

What time is the coin toss?

10.30.

Steve Smith looks like he is in at 6, had a net this morning.

Looking forward to this!

Perhaps would prefer Finn to Bresnan as he IMO adds a little extra, but that's a high-class dilemma to have.

Even though it's overcast right now it looks like the cloud will break so I would still bat. Get Cook, Root and Jon to hold the fort until lunch, then open up in the afternoon when the sun is out. If we choose to bowl then it's a massive gamble.

What do people think to 1.5 runs in the first over at EVS?

Could be anything. Generally would look to bat it out but  a wide and a single is easily possible.

jesus Christ Agar is in for Lyon what a stage to debut. before the Aussie A games he had played 2 first class games.

No warner either gone for Smith

Agar, that's a shocker, shows just what the selectors really think of Lyon.

Loving the coverage already, how good does the Skycart look?

Aussies first defeat of the series and it's not even started. lol
