Cant believe he`s been picked over Compton..... He`s 32 ffs.

Isn't Compton 30? It's not like he's the future.

I like Carberry - I'd like to see him given a proper chance.

Onions' absence from the squad is a big mistake and could be one we live to regret.

No problem given him a shot at the one dayers as he is good at that but he is nowhere near good enough to open the batting in an Ashes test.

His average is nothing special in Division 2 county cricket.

Compton must have really pissed off someone.

the weird decision was not to select Onions for the Durham ashes test over here.

The selectors thinking is probably not too far off- past ashes series are littered with bowlers taking loads of wickets in English conditions but going all round the park on the Australian pitches.

Not hard to figure out why,if you bowl full in helpful English conditions any movement is a threat, in Australia too full or too straight and you will be put away unless you can keep the batsman worried about extra bounce. Onions is a useful performer and has the stamina and fitness to bowl long stints without injury worries but I doubt the aussies , even as useless as most of them are will worry about him.

Sam Robson appears to be giving the nod to England over Australia. Can't even begin to imagine the reception he will get in Sydney turning out in the Three Lions.

For the first time I felt a little uneasy at looking at our squad for the Ashes and the performance squad next to it. No problem with Pietersen, his mother was English and he told me he would have chosen to play for us anyway, Trott shouldn't be there but I'll let one go.

Morgan and Rankin are Irish, Jordan is from Barbados and Ballance is a pure South African. There is a lot of joking about this team and it's usually exaggerated but in a few years it might not be.

International cricket needs strong sides, Ireland are no worse than Zimbabwe or Bangladesh with Boyd Rankin and Morgan, the Windies can't afford to lose good young bowlers.

We have to be very careful, not just for ourselves but for the game as a whole.

I agree its getting silly now.

Jack Charlton must be the ECB head of selectors....

Yes, think we are going too far the other way now.

As you say, a couple are ok to include, but we need English-born and bred players in the squad to dominate numbers.

Ireland should be given a higher status, because we are going to nick Stirling at some point for the one-dayers surely?

Very nice photo.

Should be a cracking series, far more pace and bounce in convict country.

Got slapped about a bit today though.

Happens, pretty much only got off the plane.

Apologies but I have bet the aussies to win.

But that will probably mean they won't.

What odds you got? I'll be amazed if they do, can only see them winning in Perth, anywhere else I don't think they'll take 20 wickets and Mitchell is even being called back lol

I think exactly the same as last tour, Oz 1 (Perth) -3 England. (Brisbane, Melb, Sydney) Draw in Adelaide.

I think it was 13/8....but my cricket bet's usually lose, so England will be ok.

I'd want a bit more that that I think...

Means England will be about 11/8, might have to load up again.

It won't matter Matt, by cricket bets are doomed.

You can thank me later when England are victorious.

I've only looked with SkyBet who's odds do tend to be abit stingy imo, England are evens.

I'm signed up with the free bet club so might just keep putting my free £5 bets on England to win the Ashes, certainly a couple of weeks worth of free £5 bets anyway.

lol

I can exactly the same score as last time, 3-1 to England, Aussies win Perth as usual but can't see them taking twenty wickets elsewhere unless Ryan Harris is superfit and on top form.
