Ashes 2013

The Oval is always like this. You don't prepare a pitch like this from 2 months ago lol

You not remember 2009 when we baked the fcuker to death to get a result on 6 days notice? Could have done that again had we wanted.

It's not always like this.

I've been to tests there where no one has got 300, like this one...

Definitely been dried out and deadened on purpose, although granted the on the whole warm dry summer has not helped.

Can't remember back to then unfortunately. :(

I was at the Oval last year and it was even drier than this, sure South Africa declared on 650-2 or something, it was a joke.

Yep that sounded familiar so checked and it was 637-2 dec, Amla with 311 not out lol

After the 4 previous tests where there's also been decent batting pitches (not like this really but still) I was a bit concerned that day 5 tickets for this one would be unused. Might not be the most interesting end as things are looking now but still at least I'll get a day on the piss at the cricket again.

Always a good day out anyway the last, get a bit of a celebration and the end of tour awards and parties etc

I just remember every man and his dog getting turfed out of the Peter May stand in that SA test. Rowdy. lol

I got ejected at Manchester earlier this month, were chucking loads out.

You can put that down to these names: Malcolm Marshall, Curtley Ambrose and Courtney Walsh - not a bad bowling attack!

Windies would have romped past 300 in the fourth innings had they needed to.

Like Matt said, there's no benefit in deliberately deadening the pitch. When they started preparing them we were massive favourites and they were curated to be dry to aid the spin of Swann and so the ball roughed up on an abrasive surface to get the ball reversing.

Even worse is that we had them 1-1. Amla scored 300+ not out in that match and didn't give a chance.

This was the only highlight of our time in the field.

This is just dull, I'm sorry.

I do appreciate the need to occupy the crease but we've shown little intent all day.

Serves them right for having another test down in London.

Cos' you can really rely on the weather elsewhere in the country.

Where did I say that?

I just said it serves them right, I wasn't asking them to pick the venue based on weather reports.

Having 2 in London is daft, why should they get 40% of the ashes?

Because of the prestige and history of the grounds, as well as popularity of the 2.

Lords is always guaranteed a match. It's one of the best cricketing venues in the world. And The Oval isn't that far behind, either.

Also none of the rest of the tests are south of Nottingham. Two tests should be in the South - and nowhere else has infrastructure to rival Lords and the Oval

Fingers crossed for the follow on. Only way we'll get any excitement.

And yeah not convinced by the London argument. I wasn't happy about 20% of the Ashes being in some north west outpost but there you go.

Bat all day. Destroy their confidence.

See where you're coming from, but I don't agree. If there was another Test coming up in a week or so fair enough, but tbh I think what happens right here isn't going to have much bearing on what happens in Aus.

Bell gone - declare now or swing away and give the punters some entertainment, and see if Aus have the stomach to set us a target.

What on earth do we gain by declaring?

To be beaten in a test match the opposition should take twenty wickets. No matter how little time is left you shouldn't make that easier for a team.

We shift the decision making burden on to them, and test their courage to see if they want to play for a result or not.

Yeah, grinding them into the dust all day might score us a couple of extra psychological points right now, but giving them the chance of a win and then snuffing it out might be even better.

Fair play. I wouldn't be doing jt though.

Imagine if they did and we did a Sri Lanka and got bowled out.

Cooks life wouldn't be worth living!

Could always use the rosebowl if you have to go south, I just don't see why one city gets 2.
