Tielemans63 Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 George Alagiah looked especially smug delivering that news. Bit predictable tbh I was hoping they'd go left-field with something like Keenan or Jayden.
Zingari Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Boris is, behind the bluster, a very competent and intelligent man. And also a proper Tory, whereas Ken is just a twat. I find that very hard to believe . He should get an oscar for his performance if Tom Hanks got one for Forrest Gump
Corky Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 With that sort of name he'll fit in perfectly with Katie Hopkins' kids.
Swarles Barkley Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 *Cue every news channel trying to find a person named george alexander to interview*
Rincewind Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 This is the same Boris who when told by some President that he was proud of the number of women attended university in his country qupped, 'They only do it so the can nab a bloke.' Upper class twit who could not give two hoots for the likes of you and I.
Rincewind Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Theres been more in house murders in the history of the British Monarchy than the borgias. Theres also been more incest, rape, molest and thievery than in all the Poopes. So why should I look up to them?

Alf Bentley Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 So we're due Charles III, William V and George VII, in theory.... I hope to be around for the first two, with a bit of luck. Little chance of seeing King George, given the Windsor genes and priority health care Mixed bag, the Georges, weren't they: - George I & II were basically Germans - George III lost America and went mad - George IV was an unpopular, debauched slob - George V was a solid, deceptively cunning (or well-advised) moderniser - George VI seems to have been a decent cove (certainly better than his obnoxious brother, arguably our worst ever monarch) Extraordinary to think that George V, King as recently as 1936 was a first cousin of the German Kaiser and the Russian Czar! Did you know that George II was due to be followed by King Fred, but Fred predeceased his Dad...
Rincewind Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Never knew the last bit. There certainly has been a lot of foreign blood in the British Royal which makes it surprising that the far right support them so strongly (OK visa versa for the far left)

He became King George because Victoria didn't want anyone else to reign as an Albert and eclipse her Albert. Obviously he was never meant to be King so his name shouldn't have mattered.

Weird, can't understand why the far-right would have supported any German. Or Austrian for that matter.

leicsmac Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Yes, the two world wars were nothing more than family feuds that got a bit out of hand . This has been mentioned in a previous post, but following the laws of causality two world wars began (that resulted in the death of almost 100 million people, not to mention how many the Spanish Flu killed) by a driver taking a wrong turn.

I think they were all looking for an excuse to start a war anyway.
leicsmac Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 I think they were all looking for an excuse to start a war anyway. Yeah, that was just the casus belli, but it's unreal how that one turn had so many knock-on effects.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Funny that our England's patron saint is St George, but it took until the 18th century until a George reigned as monarch, and a German at that!
DennisNedry Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Gutted, so nearly put a tenner on George at 12/1 last Tuesday.
Vlad the Fox Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 With that sort of name he'll fit in perfectly with Katie Hopkins' kids. He'll never be allowed to mix with the likes of her and her offspring.
Zingari Posted 24 July 2013 Posted 24 July 2013 Named him after a Beatle. I HAVE DREAMT OF THIS DAY. King Ringo , I like that
