Anglo-Spanish tensions

A rock stands in the centre of it all.

Great Britain's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced it'll send out a considerable amount of ships to the Mediterranean Sea in order to patrol the Gibraltar surroundings.

Diplomatic relationships have taken a hit for the worse ever since Spain started to complicate access to the British colony, leading to waiting periods of up to seven hours for people trying to leave Gibraltar by land.

Talks between David Cameron and his Spanish counterpart, Mariano Rajoy, were held last Wednesday, but nothing seemed to come out of it. Cameron spoke of severe consequences for the two countries' bilateral ties.

Whilst Great Britain considers the customs controls "inappropriate", Spain sees them as "plain normal".

Spanish newspapers called the planned maneuver an "unnecessary provocation".

The latest Spanish interference with customs is said to be an act of revenge following Gibraltar's decision to create more artificial reefs, which would hamper the Spanish fishing industry in the area.

Nothing like an international incident to distract people from domestic problems! Maybe the UK and Spain cooked it up between them....

I was talking mostly about the Spanish and the recent corruption scandal.

Spain/Argentina what's the difference?

several thousand miles. We could send a few ships against their armada. It worked before and a good war raises the leaders popularity (well that is until several years later)

Nuke them! Nuke the lot of them! and whilst they are at it, Nuke the French because they wouldn't sell out beef once. In fact just go ahead and nuke everyone else and be done with it!

Spain is hypocritical perhaps they need to talk about Ceuta and Melilla and numerous other remnants of the Spanish empire but the always seem to forget about these. I agree just do not holiday there any more! Plenty of better cheaper places to go anyway.

Their argument is that those are part of Spain itself, and pre-date Morocco as a nation.  Next!

I have no plans to visit Spain again, been somewhere in the North - can't remember what it was called but it was most forgettable. Majorca contains Magaluf so that qualifies as the worst island in the world. And I once ended up in Lloret de Mar, which is basically the anus of the Universe. Sure there are nice parts but I've not seen them

Been France, Italy and Greece a few times and have nothing but love for all three. But if you consider being pissed out of your face lying next to a rotten swimming pool crammed full of noisy fat English kids covered in your own sick a holiday, then Spain's the place to be

Nope you are just going to the wrong parts, Spain is a great country, the food, the wine, the cider, the fiestas, the siestas, the life style the countryside, the beaches, it shits all over England. Obviously if you go to a place full of drunk holidaymakers you're going to think it's crap, but guess what, that is because of the English and other tourists being dicks.

Edit: You can add the football, the women, the cost of living to that list as well.

Spot on, I love the place. Intend to retire out there.

Which bit in particular do you disagree with? I've lived in many parts of England, and visited even more, and yes it has its good points, but seriously do you honestly disagree with any of that list I made?
