fleckneymike Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Fair. But as I've said it's early days for us playing in this way which means things like that are likely to trouble us early on. I'm willing to give it time before I start worrying about the formation and how we've been playing. I agree it's early days but for as long as there has been 352 the basic way to overcome it is that tactic, I'd like to think we'd been on the training pitch planning for such an incredibly obvious eventuality.
Kitchandro Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 It was a plan of theirs. Their forwards were pulling out wide and they played lots of diagonal balls down the channels. As a back 3 it's very hard to mark the forwards then and the wing backs tend to be too high up so it ends up in the space behind them. A good plan executed by Leeds, however negative it was, and it ended up meaning the two teams cancelled each other out. Instead of praising their plan we should be concentrating on how we dealt with something so basic. It's not like Konchesky was supporting our midfield really well and providing a threat, he was just anonymous a lot of the time. There was one time when he was standing in the box and he still wasn't covering when the ball was switched across. If that's how easily they can cause us trouble we need to do something about it. In any case, it was our play on the ball that most concerned me. We really didn't look to have a clue how to create anything.
Monsell1976 Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 It's the second league game of the season ffs. Can't imagine what this place would have been like had we lost! If we win at Derby next week then 7 points from the first 3 games won't look so bad now will it... Understandably a drab affair but a hell of a long way to go - in the season and in the development of this formation You can only comment on what you see, and what I see concerns me, no creativity, negative play, and it bored the life out of me.Yes only two games in, but we look far from a strong side, and after putting out a side that had the whole season together last year, I would expect them to look good even this early, new formation or not. Ok what if we don't beat derby, four points, shocking first half at boro, shocking against Leeds, and if we did get beat at derby it would i guess be a shocking performance again. I think from the opening 3 games there is more to be concerned about than excited about, but it is early!!!!!.
hackneyfox Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Not so much a 'good plan' as a '****ing obvious one'. To which we had no answer until it was too late.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iMN3ods8_bg Simple. Make Leeds United pay for damages. Their fans, their responsibility.

GingerrrFox Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Leeds fans are the epitome of MeatFace BinHeads. They aren't good support they are just a bunch of ****ing ****** who sing the same monotone "we all love leeds" for minutes on end because it reminds them of when they were at school and got a badge for that shit. They actually kill atmosphere at games and the game became a drab affair when the players got sent to sleep by it.

In any case, it was our play on the ball that most concerned me. We really didn't look to have a clue how to create anything. Just pointing out because it's early days even the simple things might be difficult to deal with. Our play on the ball concerned me too. No attacking threat until the subs came on. Even then, it was hardly making the Leeds defence s**t themselves. We were trying to force the play too much, too many direct balls (both on the floor and in the air) and our flat three in midfield just didn't work from an attacking point of view. Felt so so sorry for the strikers. There weren't even scraps for them to feed on! You can only comment on what you see, and what I see concerns me, no creativity, negative play, and it bored the life out of me. Oh don't get me wrong I was bored watching it as well, in fact I was more frustrated at how we were playing. Thing is, last year after the third game we had won once against a team that eventually got relegated and had put in two performances after that where we created loads but failed to convert and lost. It seems the start to this year is going to be the opposite. Few chances but fewer conceded and more points. Admittedly, some of it worries me but I'm willing to wait and see...
TheUltimateWinner Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 They sure showed that piece of blue metal who was boss I was more fixated by the way they moved that toilet seat around so elegantly.

Basingstoke Fox Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 The roadworks in Leicester are an absolute PAIN IN THE ARSE!! I can't wait till they're complete. I only got home about half an hour ago thanks to that. Pretty dull game with little quality. A far cry from the slick passing football that we saw from our team quite a few times last season. At least we didn't lose and hopefully it's something to build upon. There was a corner where we let it bounce and the only reason we didn't concede was a last minute block, thank f**k. Agree with the comments about us just letting Leeds take over the place. It is embarrassing. At least we perked up abit in the second half and didn't just let them humiliate us for the whole time during that. The last 15 minutes of the first half having to listen to their fans, with our fans doing nothing and watching an overly drab game on the pitch were awful. Hopefully there won't be too many more of those times to come!
ian_marshall Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 People are getting far too carried away with both the perfomance and result today. Leeds came with a game plan and executed it perfectly. They were happy to come away with a draw and were hoping a mistake or bit of luck could have snatched the three points. We shouldn't be ashamed by this result. If you look at their last 2 league results against arguably the divisions most attacking and expansive sides (Watford and Brighton) they took maximum points, so there is an argument that today's result is a positive. I'm not suggesting that today's performance was great as clearly there are areas to work on, but I do think it gives us a platform to build from. The positives for me from the last 2 league games are that neither Boro nor Leeds created an awful lot of chances; we finally appear to have got our act together in terms of defending set pieces; and based on Whitbread's second half display, may finally possess a no nonsense centre half that bosses the penalty area aerially. If we can encourage the midfield players to operate higher up the pitch to support the attacking players when in possession (similar to the 2nd half against Boro), I think we'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
GingerrrFox Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Also anyone who thinks Drinkwater was the worst player in our midfield needs to watch the game back. James was basically invisible and everything Andy King tried didn't work. They were both terrible today.
Hollism Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Fell asleep about 20 minutes into it, mainly because of the shifts I've had this weekend, but the game was dull. Saw the highlights and don't think I missed much though
Kinowe Soorie Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Yeah drab performance, but we have four points from two games. I'll take that for the rest of the season, thank you very much!
funkyrobot Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Positives? 4 points from 6 is an ok start. Negatives? 45 mins at Boro were appalling and pretty much most of today was at best average, A long hard season ahead. Konch can't play 3-5-2 De Laet who can play 3-5-2 was the player Pearson chose to take off first!! As I have said before, I like 3-5-2, it can be a very positive formation for good passing football - IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PLAYERS Tbf de Laet was subbed because he wasn't feeling very well. Tweeted that later.
funkyrobot Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Do me a favour. We were absolutely dreadful today. We only looked threatening when the subs came on, which was way too late. It's not negative to judge a match on it's own merits. We looked like a boring, one-dimensional, clueless lower midtable team today. It's not positive to say it was a positive perfomance today either, it's just wrong. Nigel obviously didn't save the subs for the right time because we didn't score, yet looked more dangerous when they came on. That means we brought them on too late, because the players on the pitch before did fvck all. How do you describe a display where we couldn't get our passing going and created very few chances as positive? Over reaction. We weren't absolutely dreadful. We were ok and certainly better than Leeds.
Kitchandro Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Also anyone who thinks Drinkwater was the worst player in our midfield needs to watch the game back. James was basically invisible and everything Andy King tried didn't work. They were both terrible today. Yes they were terrible but Drinkwater was by choice. He was crap because he chose to be negative on the ball, King and James just had shit games. What did Drinkwater do that was so much better than King and James anyway? His passing was poor when it went forward, he had a couple of naff shots, he didn't tackle anyone. Just because he wasn't anonymous doesn't mean he was any better than the others. If anything it's more criminal that he got on the ball so much and did so little with it.
Swiss_tony Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Dyer wasn't punched in the face he attempted to tackle like a girl and hit himself in the process. We weren't solid at all, a lot of last ditch tackles and blocks were made, being 'solid' means those chances don't even materialise. dyer hitting himslef in the face after performing an air shot was the highlight of the game for me.
Swiss_tony Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 It was a plan of theirs. Their forwards were pulling out wide and they played lots of diagonal balls down the channels. Swiss_tony Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 We were towards the back of SK1, got going a couple of times but not good. Don't know why people are happy to just sit there and let Leeds take over the place year in, year out, it's embarrassing. Thought the attendance was disappointing but no surprise when $ky ruined it as usual and it was most likely priced badly. It should be alright against Birmingham, and I can see them bringing a similar number to Leeds. Whitbread wasn't bad. He had a poor first half but improved a lot in the second. The midfield is what concerned me today. As a three - they're just far too similar. They're all tidy footballers, but none of them have a creative spark, none of them are going to constantly win you the ball back. Setting up with those three and Konchesky as 4 of your 5 is asking for a low score. That line up simply won't work. There's a lot of players it suits but there's just no obvious attacking plan at all to me other than shite hoofball. Why oh why he insists on not using Knockaert I'll never know. if the ref had correctly called the peno on whitbread for pulling their striker it would've been a different game. whitbread must be descended from an octopus or he played rugby at school. he's all arms and no talent,

marbelladave Posted 11 August 2013 Posted 11 August 2013 Evening all. Strange game and some pretty strange reactions on here and elsewhere. For me I thought all our players were ok, not great, barely even good for much of the game but not awful either, bang average in fact. Moore looked the pick and De Laet was well off the the pace but otherwise everyone was sort of ok. The problem was that, as a team, we were quite a long way short of the sum of the parts, it was a bit like making a film, everyone knew their lines and their roles, but no one seemed inclined to go the extra yard and really make a difference. First game of the season for me and it looked like a 'back to basics' kind of attitude, with everyone really determined to keep it tight and put that awful run last season behind them, so tight in fact that we failed to get forward and make anything of our opportunities.
