One Arm Babba Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Can someone explain how deals like this are not flaunting the FFP rule? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23669181 I know somebody is going to say we would do the same.... However, we're not in the same situation, so I can take the moral high ground. It makes a mockery of the rules.
Stadt Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 The FA/FL didn't actually close the loophole they just narrowed it,the appropriate bodies need to be more proactive with clubs willing to exploit loopholes like Watford
Larry_LCFC Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Its disgraceful. How have the rules been tightened? They are still making a mockery out of the system and rules.
Nick Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Good for them, if we had thought of it and done it first we'd be laughing all the way to Prem.
Fox92 Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 He is only the first loan signing of the season. As above though, the loophole hasn't gone all together, and Watford are still taking advantage of it. They are doing it well though because they actually bring in good players. FFP is to stop clubs like us I think, getting into debt etc.
AaronH Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I would imagine FFP won't matter in this as Watford probably won't pay the wages they will stiill be registered at Granada therefore miss FFP
Sharpe's Fox Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 meh, I've heard enough of Watford and their dubious transfer tactics. I was annoyed before but nothings going to change so just see them as another decent side who we have to play. Watford are naughty, get over it.
Dan Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I can barely take football seriously anymore if I'm honest.
Super_horns Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 All I would say is all 72 clubs did vote to relax rather than totally close this "loophole" so they cannot complain too much even if they think its still unfair.
One Arm Babba Posted 12 August 2013 Author Posted 12 August 2013 I would imagine FFP won't matter in this as Watford probably won't pay the wages they will stiill be registered at Granada therefore miss FFP But that's the point see, he has been signed by Granada so they carry the burden of FFP and not Watford. Being cynical they are dumping the debt with a team that won't make them any money and that they aren't bothered about. It's worth millions to the Pozzi family to get Watford in to the premier league, what chance of Granada or Udinese got of making them equivalent monies? If club A is owned by the same company that owns club B what is to stop club B from buying all the players that club A needs and loaning them or granting them free transfers. Club A has great books in the eyes of FFP. club B.... Arrr, who gives a **** about club B? I don't think it's right that several clubs can be owned by one company. Ie Watf-Udin-Ada
Samilktray Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I can barely take football seriously anymore if I'm honest. You probably take it too seriously then.
NewburyFox Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Granada sign the player, take his wages, and then loan him to Watford in order to bypass FFP. The fact that this is even possible just makes a mockery of the whole concept of FFP.
Stadt Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Were the FFP regulations written on a serviette in a pub somewhere? The concept is good, the execution is shambolic.
Super_horns Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 But Watford aren't doing anything wrong remember!!!! Well not according to the rules.... Regarding the FFP in general. It is supposed to stop clubs trying to spend 100 million on one player like Madrid are and Man City spending big on 4 players...
Guy1960 Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 The change in the rules brought in this summer was to treat international loans previously regarded as transfers in the same way as domestic loans.. I am not sure what skulldugery is being suggested by this loan to Watford. It is the first this summer and it is not a way of bypassing FFP as Belkalem was a free agent so no fee involved and Watford are paying his wages in full.
Matt Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Another Watford thread? Seriously. Can someone explain how deals like this are not flaunting the FFP rule?http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23669181I know somebody is going to say we would do the same.... However, we're not in the same situation, so I can take the moral high ground. It makes a mockery of the rules. Ok, well take the moral high ground and drop the sour grapes. Good for them, if we had thought of it and done it first we'd be laughing all the way to Prem. Exactly. meh, I've heard enough of Watford and their dubious transfer tactics. I was annoyed before but nothings going to change so just see them as another decent side who we have to play. Watford are naughty, get over it. Good Lad. If people are to persist with the sour grapes, bitterness, moaning, can someone just make a general Watford thread and people can just post it all in there? If what Watford are doing is a sure fire way of success, promotion, winning, then surely it would be worthwhile for our owners to buy another club(s) and do the same as Watford/their owners. It would no doubt be a worthwhile investment for them and the club. Simple. Our owners must not care enough or something.

The fact that he was a free agent and hence not subject to any transfer fee and Watford are paying his wages seems to have escaped you. What FFP rules have been breached?
Corky Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I'm getting fed up of hearing about this bloody club. They've broken the rules, oh no they haven't. It's unethical, oh well you do worse. You'd want to be in our position blah blah. They aren't worth all this attention.
NewburyFox Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 The fact that he was a free agent and hence not subject to any transfer fee and Watford are paying his wages seems to have escaped you. What FFP rules have been breached? If you're paying his wages then why did Granada sign him and loan him to you rather than signing him yourself? It appears to me that Granada are paying his wages and you're getting the player in order to get around FFP. True? No rules have been breached however, and the 'moral' arguments have been covered enough.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Small club taking an ethically grey route to promotion who will revert to their standard mid-table Championship fodder status when the owners get bored/tied down when the FA's rules finally catch up with them. Move along.
Captain... Posted 13 August 2013 Posted 13 August 2013 Big clubs often sign players and send them straight out on loan to a small club. Not sure Granada are a big club though, and what they are getting out of it, but in this case I'd be more pissed off if I was a Granada fan than as a Leicester fan. What is annoying is all the players Watford have picked up for next to nothing this summer, I'm glad Vydra wasn't one of them, but it is still a lot of talent picked up very cheap when most clubs are scrabbling through the bargain basements to get in line with ffp.
Strokes Posted 13 August 2013 Posted 13 August 2013 My only gripe is that we aren't doing something similar. I don't agree that ffp rules are 'fair', so we should be looking for loopholes too.
RobHawk Posted 13 August 2013 Posted 13 August 2013 My biggest gripe was that Watford were supposed to have a transfer embargo yet they released a load of players and have more than replaced them. Not sure where the punishment is there! In relation to the Watford - Granada - Udinese issue, they are doing nothing wrong according to the current rules so i don't see what everyone is bitching about! Ok it might be against the principles of FFP but that doesn't mean they have done anything wrong!
aefevans Posted 13 August 2013 Posted 13 August 2013 My biggest gripe was that Watford were supposed to have a transfer embargo yet they released a load of players and have more than replaced them. Not sure where the punishment is there! What a lot of people forget about Watford's transfer embargo is that a) the transfer embargo was only ever a supervision order, and b.) the FL also handed a three year ownership ban to Laurence Bassini (Watford's former owner). There's the punishment right there. The whole thing wasn't about the club, it was about the owner.
