Lesta Legend Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 And took them, 'worked hard in training' and turned them into scuffling midfielders, second rate wingbacks and players with little interest in playing for the team. Gallagher and now Marshall seem not to be able to get a game, and do not seem inclined to do much about it. On the other hand, Knockaert is so frustrated that when it gets on the pitch he tries to do everything himself. Going into recent games with no creativity, no real pace and a pretty conservative mindset must be pretty dispiriting for some of our players, professional attitude only goes so far. That still doesn't explain why a manager who 'doesn't like creative players' would buy them in the first place. He can't explain it as by default it will make he's argument looked like BS Bens heart isn't in it at the moment, it's personal to him. He's a good player, but needs to sort his head out if it means he leaves so be it, no use to us currently.

I think Knocky and Marshall look 'frustrated' every time they play. Whether its because they are actually not particularly good or whether Pearson's style of play 'thwarts their creativity' I really don't know? However, Nige is the boss and 7 points out of 9 with two away wins... Well you can't argue with that can you. The question Dave is this? Do you change the playing style to accommodate two 'talented young players' or do you stick with the solid set up we have currently? Personally, I think neither Marshall nor Knocky now look good enough to build the team and style of play around. I wouldn't be adverse to letting either go, if the money was right. Particularly Marshall.

Agreed, I have no idea why he would buy such players. He has no intention of allowing them to play their 'natural' game, either isolating them in wide positions or starting them on the bench..... He can't explain it as by default it will make he's argument looked like BS Bens heart isn't in it at the moment, it's personal to him. He's a good player, but needs to sort his head out if it means he leaves so be it, no use to us currently. Show me that it is BS by naming one creative player who has improved under NFP. Tough isn't it! Marshall may well be 'having problems' at the moment but his decline, football wise, has been going on for a year or more.

Particularly Marshall. Afternoon Col, I really do not have a clue what is going on at the moment, our 'style' consists of getting players behind the ball and scrapping hard when we get the ball in forward areas. We are completely devoid of any creativity or guile and without Dyer and Schlupp (most of the time) no pace either. Just get the ball forward and fight for the scraps. Still it is working so far, which obviously gives NFP time to sort out how he wants to play, but I have a sneaky feeling that we are already getting a good long look at the future, style wise.

marbelladave Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 I take your point but i'd say Matt James has improved quite a bit He has, but he seems to be a bit of a slow starter (fitness issues?) in early season and he is hardly what you would call a creative player.
Zingari Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 He has, but he seems to be a bit of a slow starter (fitness issues?) in early season and he is hardly what you would call a creative player. Actually you're probably right , but I think he's becoming a more creative player. some of his passing , flick ons etc is adding to his overall value to the team Maybe Pearson does stifle players a little , but i think he wants to instill a "team first" attitude among the players and try to get them to be industrious and professional and then be creative and entertaining in the right balance. To me Knocky taking that Watford last minute penalty was totally unprofessional and self serving behaviour that NP wants to minimise. The whole team should have all took deep breaths and waited to let the right player to take his time to execute it. If i've got any criticism of Morgan last year , it was that he didn't launch himself up the field to snatch the ball away and take time to get it sorted . edit; i know i've gone off at a bit of a tangent here
lcfcsnow Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 I remember Marshall in a post match interview towards the end of last season mentioning he'd been asked to play a different role to the previous season, and concentrate more on the defensive side of his game. So is it any wonder we've rarely seen him perform well when he's being stifled like every winger is under Pearson and his 4-4-2. And now with the 3-5-2 he's abandoned wingers altogether choosing defenders instead to provide width.
Jace Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Are we talking about the same Nigel Pearson who salvaged Lloyd Dyers Leicester City career after Sven left him to rot away in the reserves?

Are you talking about the same Lloyd Dyer who can't kick a football? There's many reasons Sven left him out of a side put together to pass the ball.
Dan Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Dyer's hardly been amazing for us since Pearson came back. Pearson could definitely make more of our creative players, for me.
jock2612 Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 On Monday Marshall looked really fed up and fustrated for the first 10-15 min but after their first gaol he seemed to have ago at SB BUT then seemed to improve and made some good runs.I fear that he will not be happy in the development squad for long.It will be ineresting to see who is in the development team at Chelsea on SAT. Gally appears not to be playing at all for either squad????
Jace Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Marshall: I'm Really Happy I’ll have to thank the manager for bringing me in – I’m really happy Ben Marshall Nigel Pearson and Ben Marshall Image by: Plumb Images With the Foxes currently occupying second position in the npower Championship, midfielder Ben Marshall admits he is enjoying life at the club. The 21-year-old was signed by Nigel Pearson from Stoke City a little over a year ago and his recent fine displays have helped in-form Leicester secure five straight league wins. Marshall’s run of eight consecutive starts for the side in all competitions has also coincided with the current eight-game unbeaten run, dating back to the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City at King Power Stadium on 22 December, 2012. “I’m happy enough,†said Marshall, who has scored four times for the Foxes so far this campaign. “I’ve been playing, and I’ve just got to keep doing what I’ve been doing and stay in the side. “It has been a good year. I’ve even managed to get an England [under-21s] call-up out of it and I’ve really enjoyed it since I’ve been here. “I’ll have to thank the manager for bringing me in – I’m really happy. “It’s getting to that side of the season now where it (promotion) starts to feel more realistic; every time you win you think ‘were getting up there’. “Everyone is confident and we just want to get to the next game and win.†http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/050213-marshall-im-really-happy-639918.aspx

deep blue Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 There is no doubt that Marshall showed considerable promise when he first arrived but has failed to develop from there. Arguably he has gone backwards from there, why I have no idea. If he has health issues of one sort or another then that might be an explanation but if not...... I could point out that creative players have not fared well under the Pearson regime, Gallagher and Gradel come to mind and now Marshal, Schlupp and possibly Knockaert seem to be falling well behind expectations. Bit of a pattern, I think. Part of me sympathises with your view, but part of me wonders whether you want to find a pattern and are looking at things over-simplistically to show it. Apart from Gallagher (who has talent but not enough application in tough games) the players you mention are very young, and that's an important factor. I imagine it could take some time to teach young players who have the talent to go past players that you have to temper that impulse and get them to apply those talents in a judicious way for the effectiveness of the team. The successful talented players (take Messi as an example) play mostly in a way that fits in with the team ethic, only occasionally doing something that is out of the ordinary. Neither Knocky nor Marshall have the experience to know how to feel themselves back into form. Even with help they may take some time to sort it out. I hope it isn't true that Marshall is at odds with Pearson. It's a naïve and arrogant reaction to look to blame your loss of form on the manager. Whilst he must feel frustrated he ought to acknowledge the experience that Pearson has and show respect for his views.
Bettsj2 Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 As much as people would like to make out he is to suit their argument, Ben Marshall isnt that creative. He can cross a ball from open play and twat them in from distance but he's no more capable at splitting a defence with a pass than any of our other midfielders. I like him but this bullshit of 'play him in the hole' has no foundation at all. He's never played there anywhere he's been and in the pre-season games he was tried there, was pretty gash. He looked at his best for us when he played on the left so he could cut in and twat it.

We develop or acquire players with genuine attacking talent who all show considerable promise in their early games for the club. After a brief period of excitement their form dips and performances tail off, soon they are not regular starters which gives them the hump so things get worse. Eventually they can't even get a game. Just since the second coming this has happened to Marshall, Schlupp, Drinkwater, Wood and Knockaert, arguably Waghorn too. Maybe they are all not good enough but to my mind it is too much of a pattern, and if it is not the players............

The only player you mention there where your argument stands up is with Marshall. Knocky, Drinkwater, Schlupp and Waghorn have always been ridiculously inconsistent and Wood got injured. Another common denominator away from NP is they are all young and learning. Its massively unfair to say that NP turns a good creative player into a massive pile of shit because his managerial career to date, only ever sees his sides improve upon the situations that he inherits. His methods may see some players fall by the wayside, but the facts are in where his teams finish and that is always higher than where he finds them. NP is nowhere near a top manager and makes mistakes for all to see, but what you are pinning on him just has no substance.

LCFC FOX Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 ^^ Kasper Morgan De Laet Dyer James King Just a few who have improved under Pearson
Kitchandro Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Lloyd Dyer. Tell me he's not improved since he's been here. Dyer hasn't improved. He's no more of a player than the first half of the league one campaign. His only true asset was pace then and it's the same now. He still hasn't quite worked out how and when to use it.
