Ben Marshall

Pearson has curbed his attacking instincts to make him in to a typical one dimensional Pearson job-doer and then discarded him since he's not much of a clogger. Simply put if you've decided to pick 11 cloggers, it doesn't matter if they have ability, you just pick the ones with the most energy/ most deferential.

According to reports Blackburn Rovers are interested in Leicester City midfielder Ben Marshall.

When asked whether he was eyeing the winger, Rovers manager Gary Bowyer failed to rule out a move prompting speculation of a future approach.

Marshall has found first-team opportunities limited this season and may be tempted into move away if it means the chance of more playing time.

The 21-year-old signed for Leicester in January 2012 from Stoke City following an impressive loan stint at Sheffield Wednesday.

We need a change of personal in midfield.

Danns
Gallagher
Marshall

Can all do one, Drinky can do one next season.

At first I thought you were suggesting that as a midfield 3!

The only player you mention there where your argument stands up is with Marshall. Knocky, Drinkwater, Schlupp and Waghorn have always been ridiculously inconsistent and Wood got injured. Another common denominator away from NP is they are all young and learning.

Its massively unfair to say that NP turns a good creative player into a massive pile of shit because his managerial career to date, only ever sees his sides improve upon the situations that he inherits. His methods may see some players fall by the wayside, but the facts are in where his teams finish and that is always higher than where he finds them.

NP is nowhere near a top manager and makes mistakes for all to see, but what you are pinning on him just has no substance.

So, all our attacking players are inconsistent, all of them, nothing to do with the manager/coaches. Really?

My 'challenge' remains, name one attacking/creative player who has improved under NFP.

Lloyd Dyer.

Tell me he's not improved since he's been here.

Dyer has always had an occasional good game, can't really see much of an improvement though. Can't even get a game at the minute.

^^

Kasper

Morgan

De Laet

Dyer

James

King

Just a few who have improved under Pearson

I clearly said attacking/creative players, they are all defenders apart from Dyer who has improved so much he cant get a game and King, whose attacking flair and fine finishing has pretty much disappeared over the last 12 months.

Try again?

So King (see King goals thread), Lloyd and to some extent, De Laet are not attacking. The bottom line is that he has improved the TEAM ever since h has been with us, both in his first and second spells. Some of the stuff we've played last season was sensational. Marshall and Knocky are both 21 and 22 and have time and I'm not sure either have "failed" or got worse. In fact Knocky got better but then suffered in the down spell as all creative players do in a slump. That's the beauty of "flair" players. They are streaky. I'd argue Knocky improved as we got better late last season: see Forest and Watford second leg as examples. How is it Pearson's fault he know seems to think he is god's gift? If anything I support the decision and putting him in the U21s for a bit to knuckle down. Same as Marsh. Earn it, son. FFS, we are 3 games into the season and have won 2 and drawn 1, plus a cup win. What are we doing wrong? It's a looooong season and we'll need a squad to stay in the race.

Oh yes I forgot we play James and King in defence, also I was naming players who have improved under Pearson. I didn't read your post so calm down

Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you stopped trying to fit everything into the same broken record and actually paid attention to what's going on?  Both of those players were pivotal against Birmingham and there's reason to believe they'll be so again this season. King in particular still has years in him and is the best thing our academy has produced since the Premier league days.  Now there's no arguing that Lloyd's in his twilight years as a footballer but my word you're absurdly biased against him.

Edit: Looking at the time stamp I see you posted that before the Brum match so you weren't to know.  Either way, the egg is well and truly on your face, sir.

Has anyone mentioned the fee? I would think it wouldn't be on loan. Marshall can't be on a great deal, so clearing him off the books can't be making much of a dent in the cut back for wages. I suspect he must be an unhappy chappy, and the fee pretty fair though not over the top.

So the big question is... if we sell him, and the fee half decent, will we invest it elsewhere, or just reduce our squad even further?

Posted

ship him out and reinvest in the squad seem's like only logical idea, unless pearson wants to keep him? apparently Cameron stewart is a free agent? can't be that bad if Celtic were looking at him just recently.

Getting rid of Marshall will be a big mistake.

The lad needs games and can be a game changer.

We've all ready got a small squad and if we sell then I can't see it being reinvested in any new players. So a couple of injuries and were back to putting Gally and Danns back in the side.

Posted

I really hope we don't get rid of Marshall. Our squad is already small as it is, and who do we have left as a winger without him? Just Dyer and Knockaert (who isn't really a winger anyway).

Posted

We really dont want to be selling the likes of Ben Marshall. He's going to be a very good player in years to come. It will be yet another we've let slip through the net if we sell him.

Posted

If we are losing the Marshall of last season then it's no loss at all.

But, if we are losing the Marshall of the previous year then I feel he would be hard to replace, he was just unstoppable when we first signed him.

Posted

Unless we're going to receive a hefty transfer fee I don't want this to happen. I'm sure he can be a very capable player for us, just don't understand what's happening with him atm.

And I know ben wont be the only only one going!

He knows Ben won't be the only one going.
