The People's Hero Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Agreed Mablo - but we are very fortunate to have two talented left backs. Despite all the adulation he does get, I still don't think some people appreciate quite how good Ashley Cole is. The single mark against him (aside from cheating on Cheryl, although in fairness I couldn't stand to spend more than about a minute with her) is that his end product in an attacking since is sometimes lacking. His fitness, athleticism, strength, pace, reading of the game, passing are first rate and he always offers an option to the man in possession. In my opinion, Ashley Cole is world class. Probably in decline a little bit from here on in, but Baines still has a lot to do in my opinion to take his place from him. For the sake of balance, I bet he's a right dick.

He really is England's only world class footballer currently.
Guest MattP Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Our defence is absolutely horrifying. I hope to dear god that Pellegrini puts some faith in Lescott and Richards because we need them, they are head and shoulders above the likes of Jagielka and Smalling. Lescott is often terrific, would play him every gane. Richards is often awful. Wouldn't have him anywhere near the squad.
Uncle Albert Posted 4 October 2013 Author Posted 4 October 2013 Yeah I wouldn't say Micah Richards is ahead of Glen Johnson or Kyle Walker in the right back slot.

Yeah I have no complaints about Ashley Cole, other than the fact that he is a utter wand.
The People's Hero Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Smalling used to play for Maidstone United. I sometimes wonder if he's trying to engineer a move back there, with some of his positioning and decision making. Having said that, Maidstone are playing at a higher level now....

Didn't Kerrea Gilbert sign for Maidstone not long ago, or have I dreamt that? *After a quick Wiki search it's Maidenhead United. Devastating news.
The People's Hero Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Maidstone had Steve Butler for quite a while - one time assistant manager at LCFC I believe. We won't talk about that though. And PT himself. And Roy Hodgson.
Ric Flair Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 I think Richards is a far better defender than both Johnson and Walker. Johnson is spot on going forward though and should be our first choice right now.
The People's Hero Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 I like Richards - just desperately needs to be 100% fit and first choice at MCFC
Uncle Albert Posted 4 October 2013 Author Posted 4 October 2013 I just think under the right management Richards could be a fantastic centre half, never seen him succeeding as a full back. Like other have said, firstly he needs to get himself a 100% fit.
Dan Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 I'd play Glen Johnson over Walker. Walker's horrifically over-rated.
Uncle Albert Posted 4 October 2013 Author Posted 4 October 2013 I'll have 10 quid with someone that gerrard drops out. I'll have £20? I'll take some of that. Donate it to foxestalk though. Another mouth gone quiet..
Durnerz Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Sad when you look back at our Euro 96 choices in the goalkeeper ranks, Seaman,Walker, Flowers with James and Martyn as back-up's and now we're picking between Hart (a talent but still yet to hit his peak) Ruddy and Forster.Hopefully an Italia 90 type scenario occurs whereby we're not expected to do much in the WC and we fudge it to the semi's.
Stadt Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Too many works class players, too few world class... Agreed
ADK Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Surprised about recent Joe Hart criticism, I used to think he was the best keeper in the world. Makes a few mistakes and suddenly he's crap.
Charl91 Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Hart is still a good keeper, just on a bad run of form.
Guest MattP Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 I like Richards - just desperately needs to be 100% fit and first choice at MCFC Never going to happen. Zabaleta is on a different planet to Micah Richards.

Agreed - he is massively overrated, I honestly think he's crap. Fulham was about his level but Man U, England? Nowhere near good enough.
Stadt Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Never going to happen. Zabaleta is on a different planet to Micah Richards."Always be yourself, If you can't be yourself, be Pablo Zabaleta"
Stadt Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Surprised about recent Joe Hart criticism, I used to think he was the best keeper in the world. Makes a few mistakes and suddenly he's crap.England fans I mean critics really enjoy criticising England players Hart is the current target
purpleronnie Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 The future's bright the future's john beck say what?
Guesty Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 Anyone watching Norwich v Chelsea? Ruddy made two utter howlers in the first half, couldn't even catch the ball on 2 simple over the top balls. But because he's not Hart and he only plays for Norwich most people won't hear about it as he doesn't get the same scrutiny Hart does. This is why I'd start Hart in these two matches even though Hart's on a run of poor form. Don't want a Scott Carson repeat... EDIT: 3 now; and the last one's just cost them a goal.
Stadt Posted 6 October 2013 Posted 6 October 2013 Ben Foster is the only credible replacement but even the he shouldn't get a look in.
