Leicesterpool Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Loved this show http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/oct/07/bbc-open-all-hours-christmas-special
Corky Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Not convinced it's going to be any good. The main character has gone and it's 30 years since the last episode, times have changed. Should just leave it where it was and enjoy the original episodes.

Webbo Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 We don't really have corner shops like that anymore. I'll watch it but it'll be more in hope that expectation.
Leicesterpool Posted 7 October 2013 Author Posted 7 October 2013 My guess it will be full of flashbacks for Granville, perhaps go through the years to present. We'll probably see another actor playing the younger granville. Personally i don't want to see that, i'd rather just base as modern day adaptation showing Granville preparing for retirement and handing the keys to the shop to his own son.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Not convinced it's going to be any good. The main character has gone and it's 30 years since the last episode, times have changed. Should just leave it where it was and enjoy the original episodes. It's only a one of though, I imagine it will be one of those nostalgia shows that if we watch it in a few months time we will hate it.
Leicesterpool Posted 7 October 2013 Author Posted 7 October 2013 Would be a shock if we find out Arkwright was really Granville's dad.
Jimothy Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Would be a shock if we find out Arkwright was really Granville's dad. A shock and disgusting and far to dark for a light hearted sitcom, seeing Arkwright was Granville's uncle on his mothers side!
Zingari Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 They should bring back Please Sir too . I wonder what sexy Sharon of 4B is like now ?
Leicesterpool Posted 7 October 2013 Author Posted 7 October 2013 A shock and disgusting and far to dark for a light hearted sitcom, seeing Arkwright was Granville's uncle on his mothers side! Yeah but who says Arkwright was really Granville's uncle and even related to his sister. Typical of the bbc though like Fools and Horses they'll want a dramatic ending!
Zingari Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Yeah but who says Arkwright was really Granville's uncle and even related to his sister. Typical of the bbc though like Fools and Horses they'll want a dramatic ending! Granville will lose his fingers in the till
Finnegan Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 We don't really have corner shops like that anymore. I'll watch it but it'll be more in hope that expectation. I'm guessing that will be the point, really. Over emphasis on how much Britain has changed mixed in with a bit of tribute and sentiment to Ronnie Barker. Bit unnecessary, really.
promised land Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Probably a bad idea to dig this up again, rather like the last three episodes of Only Fools after the three parter when they became millionaires. I expect they will be talking about Arkwright quite a bit seeing as Nurse Gladys is still in it, did they ever get married? I doubt it.
Zingari Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Would it be allowed to get laughs from a stutterer now ? I'm never quite sure what's pc or not anymore
Fox92 Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Yeah, I love 'Open All Hours' but I cannot imagine it without Ronnie Barker.
sphericalfox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I do hope it's going to be out on VHS afterwards
21st Century Fox Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 It's so obvious what the plot will be... We find out that Granville finally has his penis torn off by the overzealous till in the shop. To explain where Arkwright has gone, it's revealed that Granville murdered him by bludgeoning him over the head with a tin of Happy Shopper Marrowfat Peas and cuts off his penis to use for a transplant. The transplant is illegally carried out by Nurse Gladys Emmanuel who deftly sews it onto Granville.... however she accidentally also sews on Arkwright's testicles too. Granville takes NGE to the bonezone and fathers a son... only it's not his son it's Arkwight's (remember the testicles bit. yeh?) hilarity ensues as their son starts stuttering and showing penny pinching traits. Sorry I forgot to put that in spoiler tags.
Guest Bilo Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 It's either going to be set in a Tesco Express, a boarded up Londis or a betting shop that stinks of piss.
Vlad the Fox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Love 'open all hours' and really hope this is good but Barker brought so much to the show that I'm not sure it could work without him. In explaining Barkers death I think he will die in an accident with his money belt or of shock after the black widow tells him to keep her change, or on his wedding night when Gladys finally releases those puppies.
Orkneyfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 They should bring back Please Sir too . I wonder what sexy Sharon of 4B is like now ? Apparently retired:
Zingari Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Yes , that's sexy Sharon of 4B, played by Penny Spencer .She was much better than Carol Hawkins Just googled her and it's another case of a disappearing actress from that era just like Sheila Fearn.
purpleronnie Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Would it be allowed to get laughs from a stutterer now ? I'm never quite sure what's pc or not anymore very good point, guess we'll see.
I am Rod Hull Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 I didnt like the original series with the two greats of British comedy in it so I wont be bothering with the new one.
