notnow john Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 Monty Python are set to reform.Brilliant in the seventies with their tv shows and films. Life of Brian is the funniest film I've seen, still watch it now. Michael Palin's Ripping Yarns was genius. Just wondered what relevance you think they will have now?
The God Emperor Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 cant be any worse than the likes of miranda. at least pythons have actually been funny at some point
DennisNedry Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 I think the comedy was very 'of it's time'. I like them but I don't think the mainstream will. It'll be difficult for them to re-create what they had in the 70s too. Life of Brian funniest film you've seen? Holy Grail is better
Fox92 Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 Massive, massive fan of John Cleese. I love Fawlty Towers (my favourite programme) but only ever watched Python in parts. Really need to buy one of their DVDs.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 I think the comedy was very 'of it's time'. I like them but I don't think the mainstream will. It'll be difficult for them to re-create what they had in the 70s too. Life of Brian funniest film you've seen? Holy Grail is better Agree 100%, even down to Holy Grail being funnier. A little worried it might not be very funny - they were already losing it by the time they did Meaning of Life. Let's hope they don't sully their own memory (there's a Pythonesque joke in there somewhere.)
Webbo Posted 19 November 2013 Posted 19 November 2013 Well I didn't expect that, nor the Spanish Inquisition.
MPH Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Chuffin delighted about this!!! But even if it turns out to be embarrassingly bad, I'll just go back to the originals!! I can't lose :-)
ozleicester Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Saw a brief interview/discussion with them this morning, got to say, im a little disappointed. As denisnedry mentioned above, they were geniuses, but they were of the time. I fear this will be a bunch of sad old men talking about the good old days. Life of Brian is the best film ever.
Zingari Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 There's obviously so much bad blood and dislike that's developed between them over the years that I seriously doubt they can work together as before . Hope I'm wrong though .
broughtonblue Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Slightly off topic but I see the bbc are also doing a Christmas special of Open all hours Granville takes over the shop, hope this is decent as well as python
Parafox Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 BBC exec: I wish to complain about this sketch show what i purchased not 'alf an hour ago. Salesperson: Oh yes, the, er, Monthy Python show. What's, er, what's wrong with it. BBC exec: I'll tell you whats wrong with it my lad, it's dead, that's what's wrong with it. Salesperson: Er, no, no it's not dead, it's just resting. BBC exec: Look matey, I know a dead sketch show when i see one, and i'm looking at one right now. I hope not, but it's quite likely.
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Apologies if this has been done already? But I've just seen that the 'Monty Python' blokes are making a comeback. Did you ever 'get' Monty Python.. And find it funny? It's a little before my time, but I've seen 'Life of Brian' and 'The Quest for the Holy Grail' and found them pretty funny. The 'dead parrot' sketch was one of the best known ones I think? Anyway, Monty Python.... Funny or not? And comeback or not? Edit... Cheers mods..
Finnegan Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Joining camp Holy Grail, absolutely, unbelievably hilarious.
Mark_w Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Monty Python.... Funny or not? I really don't think that's a question that needs to be asked.
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 I really don't think that's a question that needs to be asked. Yeah course it is Mark. Quite a few of my mates (40 something's) never really found it funny.
Webbo Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 A lot of their stuff was hit and miss. A bit over rated imo.
Rincewind Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Thought they were just doing a few stage shows to get some money to pay off debts they owe>
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 November 2013 Posted 22 November 2013 The old dog's doing a revival show. There is hope for me yet, Where's my kilt?
Parafox Posted 22 November 2013 Posted 22 November 2013 Most of there stuff i found "amusing" rather than rollickingly funny. The films (apart from The Meaning of Life) were far better as they could actually tell a story. Life of Brian and The Holy Grail were both brilliant, witty, informed and clever. He's NOT the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
rico Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 1st set of dates sold out in 43 seconds ! http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/python-show-sells-43-seconds-120652682.html
Deucalion Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Not massively keen on Monty Python but nothing against them really either. But...anyone see the sketch they are in court to decide why Leicester City have never won the FA Cup? I've searched for this clip before and never been able to find it.
notnow john Posted 25 November 2013 Author Posted 25 November 2013 It may have been on the Rutland Weekend Television series.
Deucalion Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 It may have been on the Rutland Weekend Television series. You were right, this from Wikipedia. Being Normal. A spoof documentary about one man's completely uneventful life. Despite having had lunatic parents and a miserable childhood, David Battley remains depressingly ordinary, going to "straight pubs" and feeling at home in the company of "other normals". The documentary's narrator decides that "the little man from the off-licence" is to blame, not just for Battley's misfortune, but for everything, including Leicester City Football Club's failure to win the FA Cup. This segues into Innes's song Lie Down and Be Counted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutland_Weekend_Television Found it !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eH4HeZrg48 4:38 minutes in.
