hackneyfox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 There's no way on this planet he'd take £6k a week. He's probably on about £25k a week now. If we go up I'd keep him on that and if we don't I'd say he's got to cut it - and to be fair, I don't think any other club would pay him £25k either. No Premier side will sign him. How many newly relegated sides would want him if they have kept the bulk of their players? 18 months ago the average salary for a Championship player £4,059 a week (£211,068 a year), less than a fifth of players one division above. So that was before FFP came in, we obviously have one of the higher turnovers in the division and owners who will loan to the max that FFP allows but what would that allow us to pay in salary to one of our top earners?
Happy Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Author Posted 26 November 2013 I don't think any of our players will get contracts till we are promoted that leaves them with the option to talk with other clubs but having said that it seems everyone is committed to delivering promotion which is the key then contracts can happen etc. But the goal is automatic promotion and the focus has to be that.
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Especially because he's on nowhere near that now. what is your source for that? He was widely talked about with the breakdown with pompy, Papers all said differently, but He was on a minimum of 25k some papers claiming 40k a week, Joining free spending leicester under Sven, Who also paid vassel a rediculous sum, It's probably about right at the 25k-30k mark... Can you show your source on his wages? good to learn
Rhysm Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 realistically, What would you offer him? what do you think pearson will? I think he will be very lucky to get 20k out of him pw We need to hang fire and not jump into giving him a new contract to soon If the lucrative new contract is his motivation to playing well let's string it out for as long as possible. Whilst I like him, we could certainly get someone equally as good/ better for the money he is on.

Fair enough, I can only rely on what I read i suppose, could be lazy journalism but he was a sport headline for most papers at the time so they cannot all be wrong, And they know more than me. Not that I am saying you are wrong, I just think he would of been on that figure!
MPH Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I think, in today's inflated market, despite FFP restrictions there are only a couple of players who Pearson would be happy to pay substantially more than the others. One is Morgan the other is Nugent. Both it appears are role model professionals on the pitch and lead ( more often than not) with their displays. For years now I have been looking out for strikers who can get 10 goals by Christmas as to me that's an indication that maybe... just maybe we can have a 20 goal a season striker.. It's not even bloody December and Nugent already has 10. Yet he still has his doubters. Can he go missing for a couple of games? Show me a striker on the planet who doesn't. Can he miss a few sitters in a game? Show me a striker on this planet that doesn't. If you can find one that doesn't then he's probably worth 100 million quid. I think a dose of reality is what some city fans need.. We're bloody Leicester city in the championship not Barcelona.
hackneyfox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Wasn't there a piece recently about how much ex players are owed by Pimpey?
sylofox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Nothing wrong with critisism. However, 'GET THAT SHIT TWAT NUGENT OFF. HE'S ****ING SHIT!!' Is not critisism and certainly isnt constructive. Correct thats just plain abuse. I'm sure he don't mind comments like. Fvck he's just missed a sitter or he should have put that away after rounding the keeper. However bad we feel after he's missed I bet he feels a damn site worse.

I'd love to know the average wage of players that actually start. I reckon the majority of Barnsley's side are on more than that.
hackneyfox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 From The Daily M.... David Nugent, a symbol of the profligate spending that left Portsmouth the first Premier League club to go into administration, is prepared to take a huge pay-cut to ensure he never has to play for them again. Nugent, who has a year left on his Portsmouth contract, has ruled out a return when his loan spell at Burnley ends in the summer. But that decision stands to cost him about £1million, as he would be unlikely to get more than half his £40,000-a-week Pompey salary elsewhere. That would also suggest he is on a huge wage or a huge signing on fee. One things for sure if that 40k is true he did not drop 20k to come here.

Another poster letting the tally including penalties shadow a poor year, Yes he has scored 10, but although he's putting penalties away, But unless he is jinking around 6 players and earning the penalties, He does not deserve too much credit for them, Yes he scored them. but did not earn them. But you use the tally of 10 goals before christmas as a route to take to describe his performances as above average? the fact of the matter is, for most fans, he's been average and below, and only at time has put in a good shift/performance. That is what people have been saying, nobody including myself is trying to take his goals away, but a penalty struck from 12 yards with a keeper who is not allowed to move until the ball is struck, does not reflect his overall performances this year. I've said it in most of my posts, and I'll say it again. I hope he proves me wrong.
Happy Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Author Posted 26 November 2013 A goal is a goal you are arguing semantics Lee.
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Wasn't there a piece recently about how much ex players are owed by Pimpey? Yeah, it made me think when someone mentioned wages, I done some small research, and david nugent allegedly proposed to waive his owed money, just so he could leave the club and never play for them again, as soon as he left he opened court proceedings against them, They owe him £1.6m? I THINK.. This is just a vague memory of the same thread you mentioned.
Johnny Cash Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The guys has scored 38 league goals in 100 league game, that one every 2.6 games and still gets stick. But he hasn't scored one every 2.6 games, he has scored in bunches and doubles. Whether we like it or not, he dropped off the face of the earth from January until Watford in the play-offs, last season or not, this supposed God that some people perceive him as was shite, utter shite. He started this season in similar fashion, majority of his goals have been penalties which he didn't take before. He/and posters on here say he is on for his usual goal tally of 15+, he got that in previous years without pens but now it's okay if he only gets 15 goals with pens? What planet do some people live on?
Bert Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Don't Portsmouth pay him £3k a week? I remember someone posting it on here.
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 A goal is a goal you are arguing semantics Lee. Like I've said in the past, He has to score them. fair play. But if scoring a penalty that you have done nothing to earn, gives you a right to spout to the criticizing fans, and gives the supportive ones fuel for their david nugent fires, Why don't we let Logan come on for all of our penalties then claim he's a quality outfield player, I cannot say realistically "TAKE AWAY HIS PENALTIES" Because yes they all count, But he has done nothing to earn them! and is getting credit for them, and fans are using this tally to defend him, gallagher was very much the same, Scored a mean penalty and took a good free kick, but went missing. Unfortunately he didnt have 7 penalties in a few weeks to boost his tally. Before anyone else starts I am not saying bring gally back! In Layman terms this is how it is... Knockaert wins penalty..... knockaert scores...... Knockaert gets the praise...... and 6 months time everyone is talking about him. Leicester city fans: Knockaert wins penalty and does all the hard work..... Nugent scores....... Nugent gets the glory for 6 months and also another goal for fans to defend him with....... everyone forgets about knockaerts hard work. that's us all over. And it's wrong. The nugent "Haters" as you all love to put it, are simply saying that is wrong, and the fact he scored in a situation that is deemed easier to score than miss. does not reflect on his performances, as for the criticizers, he has not done enough. and if you put the penalties aside, has done no more than anyone else. and allot less than some. and for the wages he earns, does not merit his contract.
Dan Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The play bonuses would make a big difference but the figure I gave was prior to FFP. How much have we cut our salary bill by in the last 18 months? No idea but I'm sure it's by a lot, more than anyone else in the league. I don't buy for one second the average wage is £4k a week. No way on earth. I reckon it's about double that.
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The play bonuses would make a big difference but the figure I gave was prior to FFP. How much have we cut our salary bill by in the last 18 months? Not sure, but last financial accounts state we paid 27m last season in wages, So allot less than that I hope!! They had gone from 15m the season previous, we have saved ATLEAST 5m I know that... but couldnt put a pinpoint figure on If we took an average of 10k per week, per player sold/loaned off the wage bill, (Considering it's reported we are still paying for some of mills, some of beckford, danns and sledge) Mills Beckford Danns Sledge Waggy Wellens Marshall futacs whitbread gallagher paintsil peltier bamba vassel AND MORE 14 players x10k per week, would be £140k per week. 7m+ per year... Obviously those figures are just very rough and will be different, but with danns, sledge, wellens, gallagher, paintsil, vassel, beckford and mills all reported on 15-20k+ when they were here, it's a generous calculation. Obviously we released more players and signed some aswell
Dan Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 In Lehman terms this is how it is... Knockaert wins penalty..... knockaert scores...... Knockaert gets the praise...... and 6 months time everyone is talking about him. The irony of this example is incredible.

At the end of the year when top goal-scorers are decided up and down the leagues, do they take away penalties? A striker is judged on goal tallies, nothing else, you fail to understand that it is the figure that is important and not the means. Any you call me thick....
