Monsell1976 Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 I like nugent a lot and have defended him when certain people say he's shit, because he's not, but he has been the shadow of the player we know he can be. To say he or others shouldn't recieve criticism when they have been out of form and not performing to there full potential, for decent periods of time is wrong in my opinion, he is a paid entertainer and so are thousands of others that are paid to play football, and if they can't take the criticism but the healthy pay check, then something is seriously wrong with the game. All this said as long as the abuse isn't personal, I would have more respect for these highly paid professionals, if they just held their hands up and said I'm struggling for form, but am working hard to put it right, rather than moan to the papers about getting some grief, because no matter what job you do, if you don't perform, somebody will get on at you to up your performance.
C-man Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Tough one this. On one hand I think he should get over it - there's enough twats in the world that whatever happens, you're bound to get stick if you're in the public eye. He should be experienced enough to know that. Besides, he's never been booed and other than a few questionable comments on here (probably Twitter too) he's upheld a good rep. Personally think he should have been subjected to a lot more shit when he allowed his sister to flog his comps in May, that was a cvntish thing to do even if he didn't have full control. On the other hand I still fail to see why a striker on course for a shade under 30 goals is getting any stick at all. Maybe he looks lazy in comparison to Vardy? Maybe he should have had a few more? But to seriously question a player who has ten goals already and sits joint top of the league is downright fvcking idiotic. Yes his form had dipped slightly but he's played well enough for NP to pick him, bag double-figures already and have his side sit joint top in November. If you can't appreciate that then you need a new hobby.
Kitchandro Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 This is such an over-used and boring argument. Don't get ideas above your station - you're acting as if you are imbued with the collective bargaining power of 20k fans when you're not. If MooseBreath doesn't go to another game during the rest of his life, nobody will care. The only person whose absence you can use as a bargaining chip is your own, and believe me nobody gives a shit. The reason why nobody takes this sort of argument seriously is because you have nothing to negotiate with. Most people don't go to football games because they admire the manager's choice of striker. They go because it's their team, and a few others go because the results are good and they want to see a winning team (look at the table if you want to argue against this one). It usually takes a lot more than a striker missing a couple of chances to force people to leave en masse. Trying to use the prospect of 20k fans not turning up as a bargaining chip is laughable - not everybody is as fickle as you are. You can actually use this argument about any facet of any organisation, business, or venue. 1. I cannot stand the layout of my local ASDA. It's so counter-intuitive, nothing is in the right place. I write to complain but they don't listen to me, even though I am a paying customer and their wages are paid with my money. They forget that no customers = no money. 2. My university has appointed a new lecturer and I don't like him. He can't engage anybody and doesn't know his subject. I pay their wages with my fees but my complaints have fallen on deaf ears, but doesn't the uni realise that no students = no money? 3. I don't like Jimmy Carr's new DVD. It's awful and he isn't funny anymore. Why doesn't he write material that I like? It's people like me who pay his wages by buying his DVDs. No fans = no money. 4. The line-up of Download festival next year is terrible. I hate Aerosmith, they look like musical corpses. Don't they realise that it's fans like me who pay for the festival to go ahead? No metalheads = no money. 5. Facebook's new layout is embarrassingly bad. I have no idea where the frig I am sometimes. They get money from ad revenue but they can only charge that because users like me visit the website. No FB members = no money. If you don't read those and understand why the "paying customers" canard is boring and pointless, or if you are tempted to say "but that's different because..." followed by some incidental and irrelevant distinction between my scenarios and the Leicester one, then good luck doing your laces or crossing the road. You're missing the point. This is not about one person stopping going to the football, or the reasons they would do it, it's about the principle of respecting the group of people that make your job possible. Sorry but it is a fact that without us he wouldn't be a footballer.
Fox92 Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 I like Nugent a lot, really do rate him, but this sort of stuff annoys me... He's supposed to be a professional, a footballer, he gets paid more thousand pounds of week to perform and deliver for this football club, which wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the fans. Fans don't need to be told to 'shut up', regardless of what they are doing (booing) is right or wrong. Players need to rise above this sort of stuff.

It is easy to say that but when the criticism isn't warranted it would grate me after all a striker's job is to score goals not do a Waghorn ( loved by the masses on here for doing F**k all)
theessexfox Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 hen certain people say he's shit, because he's not, but he has been the shadow of the player we know he can be. All good in principle, but they don't get interviewed when they've been shit and contributed nothing? Anyway, I blame Nuge
Jacnah Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 But what you are failing to see here is further evidence of the breakdown between the fans and the players, I am pretty sure that everyone at the club is aware of the abuse players like Gallagher and others got. "If they want to get on my back, I don't care because I am doing it for the team and the staff." That is what he said, he isn't doing it for the fans, we are almost getting to an us and them situation, which is ridiculous when we all want the same thing, everyone claims they don't hear the abuse at games, but that is bollocks, it doesn't have to be 20,000 people shouting "Nugent is a willy puller" but you hear plenty of comments, moans and groans. It is not all social meadia's fault, although Twitter probably makes things worse. It is just clear to me that a lot of the players aren't playing for the fans anymore and I don't really blame them. this is eaxctly what i was thinking, but at the same time i think the players (i'm thinking Drinkwater with his cupped ears) and Pearson with his regular snipes in the media (both of whom I think have been fantastic for city - im just making a comment about this one issue) are being a little to 'precious' about criticism from a minority...and it is a minority..... with very few exceptions the support is good.....The OP was spot on...get the fvck on with it and stop whining!!
inckley fox Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 I know players play better when confident. It clearly didn't hurt him, did it? Or Drinkwater before him, who responded to criticism to play his best football ever. What you're saying is quite right, yes confident players tend to be better players, but you're assuming that (a) he was low on confidence and (b) criticism was what caused it. The amount of criticism some of these players receive is negligible to say the least. The amount of sniping that comes from them the second they start putting in a shift is, on the other hand, unusual. Telling someone who isn't pulling their weight that they're doing just fine is no better than telling someone down on their luck that they're rubbish. And I don't see in the improvements made by Vardy, Drinkwater and co. to suggest otherwise.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 He had a good performance against Ipswich which now means that the games before that are completely irrelevant? The stick he has received is deserved
Guest MattP Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Crikey. Precious little things these days footballers... He got a bit of duck, who doesn't? I like Nugent but he is setting himself up for more abuse if he is going to come out with this after a good game but stay silent after one like two weeks ago.

And also, if employees of Asda spoke about customers the way Nugent is talking about the fans they'd be given a strict talking to at least, and could easily get the sack.
Bert Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 And also, if employees of Asda spoke about customers the way Nugent is talking about the fans they'd be given a strict talking to at least, and could easily get the sack.I bet their penalties for FC Asda would count though.
svensson Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Nugent is the best thing since sliced bread. I love the guy.
Father Ted Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 What a pleb. One good second half performance and he's giving the big one. He wouldn't have said this two weeks ago. I'll fully support the TEAM but his performances have been pathetic. Coming out in the media about a month ago saying he wants a new contract, etc. Jog on. Remember last season when he came out with the old 'I'm aiming for 20 goals this season, I'm on 14 already' [January 2013], he finished on 15.

Enough fans would be quick to call him a Judas if he buggered off swiftly.
Father Ted Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 What's wrong with someone wanting to stay at the club? Enough fans would be quick to call him a Judas if he buggered off swiftly. Nothing at all if he actually showed that he wants to contribute to the club. He has been well below standard this season with some real half arsed efforts. (I can't talk about last season, apparently its gone according to Fox 92). Fair enough, if he starts putting more effort in and bagging a few more goals from open play but so far this season, he's not been good enough and that's why he has had to come out and defend himself.
Babylon Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 And also, if employees of Asda spoke about customers the way Nugent is talking about the fans they'd be given a strict talking to at least, and could easily get the sack. And if customers of Asda spoke to a member of staff, the way some of our "fans" speak to their own players. They would be told to get the **** out of the store and never come back.

Its clearly evident that you and those that say he doesn't put effort in haven't actually been to a game. He always puts a shift in, to state otherwise is factually incorrect.
JohnnyFox Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 I rate Nuge but he has his moments. He was pretty much non existent in the 1st half of the Ipswich game, but the team were pretty poor overall. Major step up and fair play to him, keep it up!
Father Ted Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Its clearly evident that you and those that say he doesn't put effort in haven't actually been to a game. He always puts a shift in, to state otherwise is factually incorrect. Bollocks, I've only missed 3 games this season (Middlesbrough, Carlisle and Ipswich). I think I'm more likely to have a more valid opinion than you if that's how you want to play it.
Webbo Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 No, but I did then go on to IMDB.com and criticised the actor on the messageboard and they read it and got really upset. They cupped their ears when they went on Jonathan Ross as well.
Captain... Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 Reading it again I think Manwell Pablo has got it spot on, he was clearly asked about his critics that is why his response started with if: "IF there are any moaners out there I hope this keeps them quiet for a week or two." Clearly he has been asked about his critics, and for those that think that it is fine to moan on here and Twitter and the moan in, this is how it works: Journalists pick up on it, they see what is being said on the net and hear the things on the radio and have noticed a trend for slagging off one of our most high profile players. The sees an opportunity to stri things up and get a better story. Nugent almost seems surprised by the comment, read his response again: "IF there are any moaners." How the interview possibly went: Journo: So David do these 2 goals silence your critics? DN (surprised): "If there are any moaners out there, then perhaps it will keep them quiet for a couple of weeks," Journo: Do you have anything to say to your critics? DN (confused): "Instead of getting on my back, perhaps they can get behind the team and we can push on and get promoted." Journo: The fans are saying you haven't scored enough goals this season, do you think that's fair? DN: "People are saying I haven't scored enough goals... but I have got 10 already this season." *exasperated* "You can never keep all the fans happy." *resigned* Journo (stirring): But 6 of those have been penalties, that is what the fans are saying. DN getting annoyed: "Six have been penalties, but this is the first season I have taken pens and, in previous years when I have been the leading goalscorer, all the goals have come from open play." Journo rubbing his hands with glee: But they expect more from you David, you are one of the stars of this club and they are not happy with your performances. DN now pissed off: "If they want to get on my back, I don't care because I am doing it for the team and the staff. Journo, smiles, job done, I've got my headline, now a bit more filler: So er how many goals are you going to score this season, or something, I don't really care, I have nearly enough material now any way: DN trademark grin returning: "I want to break that 20-goal barrier and I am halfway now, and it isn't even Christmas. Hopefully, I can get a few more." Journo bored: Whatever, say some guff about Ipswich while I snort this cocaine...

P.S I've missed 5.
Rhysm Posted 25 November 2013 Posted 25 November 2013 I don t have a problem with what he said. Drinkwaters ear cupping pissed me off more because like many people have said, it seemed like he was doing it to the whole crowd - many of whom were and are supportive of him At least he is directing it towards the so called boo boys.
