This penalty argument has been done over and over again.

For me it's just people who have a weak argument to try and make theirs look better or to use it against a player they aren't fond of. It's the same when it came to cup goals and people wanted to make Beckford look bad.

They didn't count his cup goals but they counted others.

At the end of the year when top goal-scorers are decided up and down the leagues, do they take away penalties? A striker is judged on goal tallies, nothing else, you fail to understand that it is the figure that is important and not the means. Any you call me thick....

Agree on the tally front.

But if it doesnt worry you that our top goalscorer could potentially get the same amount of goals he got as last season including 7 penalties, then it's a good job you don't manage us.

penalties do not reflect performance. (unless you earned them)

Ok well we will be going over this again and again,

only a few of us seem to be capable of seeing the true light, So I'll leave it be, And in 6 months when the situation has continued and everyone is starting to turn on nugent, I'll have the same opinion,

If he does improve, I will admit I was wrong.

But as of yet, My opinion has been valid if you look at it in the cold light of day. He has been off for  long while but has been fortunate that the team have earned penalties for him to hide behind.

As much as you lot, I'm getting bored of talking about him. He doesn't warrant his wages at all..

give it time,

I hope he proves me wrong, But I've a feeling he wont.

But he hasn't scored one every 2.6 games, he has scored in bunches and doubles. Whether we like it or not, he dropped off the face of the earth from January until Watford in the play-offs, last season or not, this supposed God that some people perceive him as was shite, utter shite.

He started this season in similar fashion, majority of his goals have been penalties which he didn't take before. He/and posters on here say he is on for his usual goal tally of 15+, he got that in previous years without pens but now it's okay if he only gets 15 goals with pens?

What planet do some people live on?

Some people live on a fairly happy planet, and don't just constantly moan like you do you miserable basstard

Another poster letting the tally including penalties shadow a poor year,

Yes he has scored 10, but although he's putting penalties away, But unless he is jinking around 6 players and earning the penalties, He does not deserve too much credit for them, Yes he scored them. but did not earn them.

But you use the tally of 10 goals before christmas as a route to take to describe his performances as above average? the fact of the matter is, for most fans, he's been average and below, and only at time has put in a good shift/performance.

That is what people have been saying, nobody including myself is trying to take his goals away, but a penalty struck from 12 yards with a keeper who is not allowed to move until the ball is struck, does not reflect his overall performances this year.

I've said it in most of my posts, and I'll say it again.

I hope he proves me wrong.

Another tit who'll never be happy!

No No your right he is total turd. He offers nothing to the team what so ever and over half his goals don't count.

So lets make this an NFP out thread cos he keeps picking him when he offers nothing to the team at all.

I think that would be a great idea after all we are only joint top. :nono:  :nono:

Disagree Bert, if Nugent had always taken penalties then you can't discount them.

I'm not discounting his penalties but they need to be in addition to his regular 15 from open play.

I appreciate he is also playing slightly deeper this season but with him taking the penalties that others used to he should be looking at getting at least 20 this season. If he only manages his normal 15 including penalties then I don't believe that is good enough.

Don't really wanna go over it again so i'll leave it,

but on another note on the manager,

Do you think pearson is just working with what he has got?

Would pearson have signed nugent if sven didnt? no.

Will pearson offer him 25k a week to keep him here? no..

does he have many options due to FFP? no.. Reason being? He would have to pay off nugent to end his contract, and nobody else would take him on his wages.

Pearson has been left holding the baby, although form is not very good for nuge, we don't have anyone who is capeable to doing better. and wood has been injured.

I will be very surprised if nugent gets another contract personally.

Posted

Did we also not get him on a free.

That would also suggest he is on a huge wage or a huge signing on fee.

One things for sure if that 40k is true he did not drop 20k to come here.

You are making assumptions here.

How many other clubs wante to sign him, that may dictate what was paid.

If we paid a signing on fee then his salary may well be less than 20k.

Perhaps Bert could give us a ballpark figure?

Is it closer to 10k or 20k?

He's already told us it's nothing like 30k.

PRAISE BE TO THE LORD!!! PREACH BROTHER!!

I think you may have wandered off too far from the herd lee. Give it a fvcking rest.

I can't show it....

Can only relay what I'm told, and it wasn't £30k a week.

It wasn't 30k it's the worst kept secret at the club that Beckford used to top our wage bill with 29.

I didn't say "Only I" did i? try not to lie. or accuse on something that is black and white in front of you :)

P.s As stated. It is my opinion,

And for the record, Unlike most, I am not a sheep, I do not follow like the majority of people in this country. So there is no herd for me to walk away from, Unless of course you are talking about the Leicester fans, That is a tribe I am fortunate enough to be part of.

Which is why I edited it, not a lie simply a mistake when typing. Fact remains you don't half think a lot of your own opinion with very little reason to.

Meh.

All bÅllocks about penalties aside, can we please have confirmation that no player has ever been interviewed and said anything like the following:

"Yeah, I was really happy at the club, but going through a dry spell. No matter what I did, I just wasn't finding my best form, although thankfully the team were winning. Then, some spotty little gobshites in the crowd started booing and jeering at me, shouting something about platinum pricing. I realised that money bought both confidence and form-what a fool I'd been! Until then, I hadn't realised what I had to do, but their honest appraisal probably saved my career. I certainly played better and got more loyal after that. It rubs off on the rest of them too-little Tony was in the form of his life, and when Arsenal came knocking he was really tempted. But he saw how the fans had helped me when I struggled and decided to stick around-you can't put a price on support as honest as that..."

They would cost money and we haven't got a couple of million to spare!

If we wait we have him until the end of the season.

At the end of the season he and a load of other players will be out of contract at which time we will know exactly what league we are in and what our budget is.

As hackney says there will only be a handful of clubs who can afford/ want him so think the risk is low.

Nugent got a fat sign on fee when he signed which helped when reducing his weekly wage. If we get promotion he will sign a new one and get a nice little increase but if we stay in the Championship he hasn't got a chance of staying on the same terms and would have to take a pay cut. I don't see anyone else apart from relegated sides who could afford to pay him his current wage with FFP as it stands.

Amen to this.

Bitch about him on here all you like, but if you're a gobshite to Nuge or any other City player in a way that you know they'll hear (either at the ground or through Twitter) you're doing it purely for yourself, not for the club. And no one who really supports this club should be doing that.

And if anyone thinks what goes on over Twitter and at the ground constitutes 'constructive criticism' then frankly you have a screw loose somewhere.

Where did I state the wood constantly puts more of a shift in the anybody?

The answer to that question is,

I did not.

I stated that NUGENT would never have scored a goal like that. Because HE DOES NOT CHASE PEOPLE DOWN.

I love how every post I put you try to comment to turn it around, yet make yourself look an arse in the process.

If I had stated "Wood puts in more of a shift than nugent" You would have a valid opinion, But you don't, because I used a valid example of a goal that nugent would never score.

The situation was the example not a player comparison.

Wood's goal, as amusing as it was, was a freak. He barely closed him down, Almunia's kick was terrible under fairly little pressure.
