Farther Ted and co read this!

Leicester City match-winner David Nugent hopes his double strike at Ipswich Town will silence his critics.

The 28-year-old took his goal tally to 10 for the campaign and, in doing so, helped send City to joint top of the Championship.

Nugent's two goals, scored inside six minutes, completed a superb comeback for City, who have now won 11 of their first 16 games this season.

Nugent said he had been taking criticism this season that he had not scored enough goals, but said he would not let it distract him from helping City in their promotion push.

"If there are any moaners out there, then perhaps it will keep them quiet for a couple of weeks," he said.

"Instead of getting on my back, perhaps they can get behind the team and we can push on and get promoted.

"People are saying I haven't scored enough goals, but I have got 10 already this season. You can never keep all the fans happy.

"Six have been penalties, but this is the first season I have taken pens and, in previous years when I have been the leading goalscorer, all the goals have come from open play.

"If they want to get on my back, I don't care because I am doing it for the team and the staff.

"I want to break that 20-goal barrier and I am halfway now, and it isn't even Christmas. Hopefully, I can get a few more."

I hate this shite. Some players get all mouthy as soon as they hit form again. I bet he wouldn't have dared talked in this way 2 weeks ago, or in that period between February and October where he was absolutely wank.

Just get the fvck on with it, some of his criticism has been very justified.

Do you think having a go, sniping and critisism will help? Or do you think supporting a player if he is not firing on all cylinders would be better?

I know players play better when confident.

Just wondered like.

Did you both say that to gallagher? No.

Have a day off both of you,

He needs to improve

I agree. I've always said Nugent is the best striker at the club, but his form has been, at best, patchy.

Just keep your talking to the pitch Dave. Keep scoring goals and playing well and everyone's happy.

Exactly.

If you want 25,000 people chanting your name it seems a bit off to moan about 2,000 people slagging you off.

I've always been a big fan of Nugent - I was delighted when we signed him and for the first 18 months at the club he gave us everything we'd expect or want from him. And then in the Watford play-off semi final he stepped up and bagged our two goals.

But the play-offs aside he's been largely poor for weeks now. I wasn't at Ipswich but it sounded like he put in a real shift as well as scoring two very well taken goals. Let's see him repeat that for a few weeks and maybe he'll win his doubters (of which I certainly would not count myself as one) over.

I disagree with the fact he's been poor its just we all rely on him? Where are vardy's moaners gone or woods??? He is scoring the goals and that's his job. is he not in the top 5 scorers of the division??? get a grip...

Come on Nuge :chant:  :chant: :chant:  :chant:  :chant:

You answer the question then, will critisism help him / us a team?

For the record I didn't have a go at Gallagher either. I just let it all work out to a satisfactory conclusion.

He must read forum's or actually take notice of people on twitter, as i wouldnt say that he gets booed / slated at the games. I guess you could ask the question would you have a twitter/facebook/read forums if you were a professional footballer? Personally i dont think i would......

Not the first & certainly won't be the last player to mention our support or more precisely lack thereof.

One day people might understand just how counterproductive it can be... And it's through the lean spells that support not endless moaning is most needed.

Although as far as Nuge is concerned, even during his lean spell he's doing one hell of a job for the team.

No happy clapping required tho, it's just the low points is when a lift is needed the most

Yea, completely agree with this. Also, it's not as if he's had a rough ride on the pitch, I think our fans have been n the whole very supportive from the stands this year (obviously helps we're doing so well) and so I can only imagine he's talking about twitter/social media and if that's the case he needs to get real. There's going to be a few idiots baiting him. He was worthy of a bit of stick as he wasn't putting in his usual shifts and looked a little off the pace.

Fair play to him, he's come back with 2 goals. Hope he keeps it up.

He's said that fans should be getting behind the team. And they should. Surely that's something we all agree on and he gets stick for being truthful.

Bloke just wants to do his best, do all you fickle morons think he goes out to deliberately play poor? He's even said himself he needs to play well to earn himself a new contact here and he wants to stay.

He's the best striker we've had for years at this level, he didn't cost a fee and we've only had to pay for his wages. We could go out and spend money on a player like Beckford, as well as his wages and only get half the return of what we've had from Nugent. Would you all prefer that?

What are the better alternatives?

He's been our top scorer for the past two seasons and he will be this season as well. That said I know he's not performed consistently well so far this season, but get a grip people this is a great chance of promotion for us this season.

I agree bert,

However when having a poor game, Claiming to have a desire to try for the team and play well... and actually doing it, are different,

More often than not when having a poor game (Most of his apps since january) instead of working hard to make something happen in the game, he stops bothering, jogs around, doesnt chase anything and wonders why he gets stick....

I like Nugent, has a good work ethic, a good touch, a good footballing brain and has a great attitude in general. Hasn't scored many from open play, but that doesn't mean you have to ignore the massive contribution he makes in other areas.

To be fair though you get some fans that only see in black and white and just use certain facts related to a position. E.g. I've seen "If Pearson doesn't get us up then he has failed his job". Without factoring in the cuts he has made while improving performance. So it doesn't surprise me to see "He hasn't scored many goals so he's not playing good enough".

I think people's annoyance came with a run of quite a few games when he was without a doubt under performing for whatever reason. Now he scores two in a game and pipes up to get people off his back. Maybe that's fair enough but we never hear from players when they aren't playing well, saying they need to step up their game or improve etc.

I think he is a great player on his day but he shouldn't get the hump when he gets moaned at for not scoring goals......brilliant that he probably reads message boards as it means we might get a message across to players/management when they are playing/acting shite

Hahahaha I find this laughable, the lad has been dog muck by his standards for the majority of 2013. I'd also question what abuse he's received, it's likely he's received some on forums and on twitter. That's about it. The games i've been to where he has been poor, he's not received much abuse from our fans so he's going on a minority on the internet. Football is a sport where you'll receive a lot of flak and a lot of praise, he's a character who thrives on both in my opinion. He loves to play the pantomime villain with away fans and he absolutely laps it up from our fans when we sniff his 'arris.

I hope the bit of abuse he's received off us makes him get his finger out because he's been lacklustre and he's paid very, very well to perform to the best of his ability.

This is coming from a massive Nugent fan as well who has stuck up for him most of the time, but in recent weeks i've been furious with him and this dig at the fans has irked me.

Do players really expect and want their fans to be a bunch of window lickers, clapping them and praising them no matter what? Well tough shit, i've seen him be very vocal on twitter about his Everton team and players so as a supporter he'd be every bit like we are when our players and team aren't doing what they're capable of.

But I don't think he's received that much stick? He's obviously an avid reader of forums along with his twitter account. Well he's always going to get a bit of criticism when he's not doing well and he's putting himself in the firing line by reading the stuff. Forums are the one place i'd rather read peoples frustrations than hear them vent it at matches and although our fans are a bit too trigger happy at not getting behind our players when things aren't going our way, i'm simply not accepting that Nugent is receiving dogs abuse by our fans at matches.

I think the whole thing is 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other,

Some kiss his arse some dont,

I like him but I am a realist, he's not been on top form (Or anywhere near it) for a long time,

BUT, He has been scoring albeit from mostly penalties, he has to tuck them away, so i'm glad he has taken them, but that does not for me overshadow the fact that he has not in anyway earned those penalties and has not contributed enough (IMO)

I hope i am proved wrong and he hits form, but if he doesnt anytime soon, with so little left on his contract it might be time to sell whilst we can still get money for him.
