Nugent - " Leicester Boo Boys"

Leicester City striker David Nugent hopes to hold new contract talks before the end of the year.

Nugent is City's leading goalscorer this season and bagged both goals in the 2-1 win at Ipswich on Saturday.

But he is out of contract at the end of the season and said he plans to hold talks with the club about a possible new contract around Christmas.

Nugent is keen to sign a new contract and stay at City, especially after becoming a dad for the first time to daughter Rose.

"We haven't sat down and talked yet, but I hope to soon," said Nugent.

"When Christmas comes, my agent and I will sit down and talk to the gaffer (Nigel Pearson) and Terry (Robinson, director of football) and try to do a deal.

"I really hope we can because I want to stay here. The lads are quality and the coaching staff are quality. I am really enjoying being at the club.

"This is my third year so, hopefully, I can stay for a few more years.

"I am still renting a place but if I sign a new contract then, with the baby now here, we will buy a place .

"Hopefully that can get sorted and I can be a Leicester player for a few years to come.

"I am concentrating on my Leicester career and I love it here so, hopefully, we can sort something out for next year."

Nugent admits he is enjoying playing in City's attack and said the counter-attacking play of Lloyd Dyer and Jamie Vardy in the second half at Ipswich had caused mayhem for the hosts.

City were facing back-to-back defeats for the first time this season, having lost at home to Nottingham Forest just before the international break.

But Nugent said a half-time rocket from manager Pearson had fired up City for their second-half comeback.

"We showed we can bounce back after a defeat and that we had the character to come back after going a goal down," he said.

"The gaffer gave us a good talking to at half-time and it could have been any one of us that came off.

"But we came out well for the second half and we looked really dangerous on the counter-attack, me, Lloydy and Vardy.

"The pace we have caused mayhem in the second half."

Complete and utter bullshit. Please tell me when you have ever seen Nugent not chase down a defender? Nuge is only beaten in terms of effort and energy by Vardy. Fairly sure you're watching a different team to me mate.

HE NEVER RUNS!!! Jogging down a defender is pointless, Look at woods goal vs watford, Nugent wouldnt score than in a million years because he was nowhere near.

He never chases players down he casually jogs towards them to make it look like he's doing something, clearly it works with you!

He's not.

Nugent has closed players down this year but with zero intensity and the words that I have used is that this season he 'ambles around'. Yes, that's better than standing still or not bothering (which he doesn't do), but if you can recall a time where he's closed down in a way that has actually affected a defender's distribution or stopped him playing an intended pass (all Nugent does at the minute is make him play that pass a tad quicker, but all the same the pass he wants to make) then I would be very surprised. Vardy and Knockaert (and even Drinkwater to an extent when he's been playing further forward) on the other hand have all affected defenders on countless occasions, forcing them to give possession back to us or deliver a worse pass to their team mate.

EXACTLY MY POINT.

Gone are them days.

Annoys me when people say this. Do you really think our £400 season pays Nugents wages?

Well yes bert, If 0 fans turned up, A there would be no football club, and B would we have signed nugent?

Simple calculation works out that average price of tickets are probably £22 (This was worked out by another poster a few weeks back) And average attendance throughout last season was 22,054 ... Which works out at £485,000 per week, (£25,000,000 a year) which is around £185,000 per week more than our wage total.

I would expect that would be counted as an Income? Which all counts to player wages,

If no fans turned up we would quickly go out of business.

With £30,000,000 reported losses last season blamed on 'souring wages' the total wages for last season were around the £30,000,000 mark. Which was double the previous season. Pearson cut the cloth, with nugent being one of the only players left on astronomical wages that he certainly does not deserve based on his performances for the past year.

Without us, He wouldnt be here very long!

But its a matter of opinions really, You know mine, I hope i'm wrong on him!

Justified criticism must always be accepted.

For the initial part of this season he has been poor, often as ineffective and out of the game as King is. In fact, thinking of the welshman, is it only me who reads a lot of criticism about him after a poor result for the team? Is it just typical leicester fans? Or is it that good results for the team paper over his poor performances?

Typical footballers nowadays,

This roughly translates as, See how much I can get out of them.

Wouldnt give him a new one unless he improves as we know,

But I hope we give him a new contract if he does.

Haha you are wrong.. Intimating that Wood puts more of a shift in because he closed down the keeper once is laughable.. A bit like you and your lack of footballing knowledge...

Where did I state the wood constantly puts more of a shift in the anybody?

The answer to that question is,

I did not.

I stated that NUGENT would never have scored a goal like that. Because HE DOES NOT CHASE PEOPLE DOWN.

I love how every post I put you try to comment to turn it around, yet make yourself look an arse in the process.

If I had stated "Wood puts in more of a shift than nugent" You would have a valid opinion, But you don't, because I used a valid example of a goal that nugent would never score.

The situation was the example not a player comparison.

Does Nugent's 5 assists help sway you back on the happy clapper bus?

I won't be on a happy clapper bus because it's a silly and blind mentality to have. I'll back the team for 90 minutes every game I'm there and criticise players on here when necessary.

I'm a Nugent fan, but I find it a little odd how he's said this and he said it after Barnsley too. He hasn't been at his best this year. I'm still more than happy to see him in the side but striving for improvement is never a bad thing as long as it's realistic.

Posted

It clearly didn't hurt him, did it? Or Drinkwater before him, who responded to criticism to play his best football ever. What you're saying is quite right, yes confident players tend to be better players, but you're assuming that (a) he was low on confidence and (b) criticism was what caused it. The amount of criticism some of these players receive is negligible to say the least. The amount of sniping that comes from them the second they start putting in a shift is, on the other hand, unusual.

Telling someone who isn't pulling their weight that they're doing just fine is no better than telling someone down on their luck that they're rubbish. And I don't see in the improvements made by Vardy, Drinkwater and co. to suggest otherwise.

I totally agree however most of this critics were doing the latter instead of the former. I do love the "it's not good telling him he's playing well when he's not" that's fine. Most people don't do that though, most people say something along the lines of sell him, he's shit, he contributes nothing, worst striker ever, should be playing non league football blah blah bladdy fuking blah. So please don't act like the stick he gets on here or on twitter at times is "constructive" lol

Where as you I presume would always offer to work for the very minimum your employer was willing to pay?

He's well within his right to ask for as much as he wants. The club will decide on whether it's worth it or not. Gone are the times where we'd give players whatever they asked for. it will be a negotiation and due to the fact he apparently wants to settle down and is enjoying it at Leicester, hopefully it's a reasonable deal we strike and value for money for the club.

Agree agree agree,

Was not based solely at Nugent,

Was based at all players, And I dont blame them!

I would do the same,

To be honest he will be in dream land if he thinks pearson will pay him 30k pw though.

Yea exactly, hopefully the players know where they're at with Pearson now. They'll know exactly why the big earners have largely been shipped off and if they want the very best deal they have to be performing every week.

realistically,

What would you offer him?

what do you think pearson will?

I think he will be very lucky to get 20k out of him pw

There's no way on this planet he'd take £6k a week.

He's probably on about £25k a week now. If we go up I'd keep him on that and if we don't I'd say he's got to cut it - and to be fair, I don't think any other club would pay him £25k either.

A very very poor example, Vardy runs around far more than nugent, nugent has far more chances hmm is there a pattern emerging... Nugent does chase back and harry defenders to state otherwise is a clear indication that you don't actually watch him, I imagine you follow the ball. Could it be that Nigel doesn't want him doing this and that is what Vardy and the midfield are tasked to do. Hmmm

The guys has scored 38 league goals in 100 league game, that one every 2.6 games and still gets stick. :(

Insane isn't it. Truely baffling in all honesty that he gets stick.

Can i remind you all of days under Craig Levien. No money, shit squad, going nowhere and David Nugent turns up for Preston and murders our useless league 1 quality players. Be happy with thw Nuge, the fact that we are winning games and are 2nd in the championship. WE HAVE NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD.....

Not a ball watcher, I wouldnt have such a strong opinion on his If I was, I would have the same opinion as most of the posters on here, that he is the best thing since sliced bread.

Vardy will always be an example comparison by fans however I chose not to follow that route, as that is obvious. nobody works as hard as vardy. But in my opinion, The majority work harder than nugent. All I am saying is If the defence chased down strikers like nugent chases down defenders or midfielders, we would be in trouble. He doesnt move enough for me, his job is to create.

He has had some good assists this season, but none of them were individual efforts, Vardy has created plenty individually. same with dyer, Knockaert, King at times, James and definitely drinkwater.

Nugent looks lazy compared to these, and it is his job to be the opposite. (IMO of course)

Insane isn't it. Truely baffling in all honesty that he gets stick.

I think it's the fact that most fan see him as a different player now to when he first signed, He does so much less now than he did before, And I would have to agree
