Rincewind Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 How many have you seen? http://www.listchallenges.com/imdb-top-250?ref=share
Kitchandro Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I stopped reading when Batman was at number 5 and I couldn't see Goodfellas.
ousefox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 20. Either the fairly old ones or the newest ones. Not really that keen on movies for some reason.
Jimothy Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 I stopped reading when Batman was at number 5 and I couldn't see Goodfellas. Batman, well actually the Dark Knight, is actually at 6, and you didn't look far because Goodfellas is the row below at 15.

My bad about the 6 (though being pedantic doesn't cover up it's scandalously high placing) but if I need to scroll below the first row to find Goodfellas it's a shit list.
Jimothy Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 My bad about the 6 but if I need to scroll below the first row to find Goodfellas it's a shit list. It's subjective surely. As long as it's in the top reaches, then the list isn't far wrong. I think it's an excellent list. Often these lists are geared towards one genre, or one era. This seems to value every film for what it is, and seems to not be overly nostalgic. It's great seeing one of these list include something like Toy Story, which whilst it's a cartoon and essentially a child's film is actually very good but rarely seen on these.
purpleronnie Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Never understood the love for the dark night, number 6 all time...pull the other one.
Phube Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 186! If it wasn't for Charlie Chaplin films... Grrr...
pSinatra Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The 250 films are ranked based on their IMDb scores. It's not an individual person's preference. I've seen 149 of those on the list. There's some really old stuff that I haven't seen & I've barely seen any of the anime films. Maybe I should watch more of them? I think Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean & Harry Potter either are pretty crap......... they're not my cup of tea, but enjoyed by others - so fair enough.

The list clearly favours several newer films voted for by nerds. Batman (no idea why they tried to make a hero wearing such a ridiculous outfit into a serious film) The Lord of the Rings films, The Matrix, the last Harry Potter film. These should be nowhere near the top. A lot of people are really starved of truly great films from the past and it really shows. Some of those on that list are shockingly underrated, some massively overrated, and some ridiculously great films aren't even in the list at all. Of course it's subjective, and in my opinion the list is laughable. Some of the films on that list take the piss.
21st Century Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The IMDB top 250 is constantly changing based on ratings given by users so there are bound to be a plethora of newer films in there. It's not an academic list it's based on trends. Having said that I stopped reading after the cluster of Lord of The Rings and Star Wars films.
Captain... Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 102, then about 50 more that I might have half watched but can't really remember, for example I'm sure I've seen the great escape, I know what happens, and get all the references, but I can't actually ever remember sitting down and watching it, or I've definitely started watching but fallen asleep in the middle of and never finished, such as the Hobbit.
21st Century Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 155. It helps that I had to watch a load of Kurosawa for Film Studies.
RobHawk Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 98 quite a few in there on my to watch list though
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The Lord of the Rings is perfect. Toy Story should be higher.
purpleronnie Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The Lord of the Rings is really boring Toy Story should be higher.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 The Lord of the Rings length reflects the epic proportions of the films narrative perfectly. People who say it is boring obviously don't appreciate the quality of a combination of the characters, script and action set pieces sufficiently. Toy Story should be higher. Nice to see you agree Ronnie.
johnny the fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 plenty of better films that are not there..
