Phube Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 plenty of better films that are not there.. In my opinion Fixed!
johnny the fox Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 Shutter island? pirates of the the caribbean? your having a laugh.. some better ones off the top of my head which are infinitly better, Jean de florette / manon de source, five easy pieces, saturday night, sunday morning.. my life as a dog.. the conformist.. on the water front .etc one of my modern favs, gone baby gone..
The Horse's Mouth Posted 26 November 2013 Posted 26 November 2013 A lot of the movies are very debatable, despite me liking Snatch I was shocked it was in the list let alone 109th? I think
Rincewind Posted 27 November 2013 Author Posted 27 November 2013 Not done it yet myself but my favourite was number one.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Only seen 14 of them, even then it's been years since i've seen a few of them.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 57. A lot more than I though, there may be a couple more in there too but I wasn't sure.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 97, having gone through it twice, totally forgotten I had seen a couple of films eg No Country For Old Men which now I remember seeing it was actually really good. I find it strange people would "stop reading" just because one of their favorite films isn't near the top, I'd have Blade Runner in my top 5 but it isn't even in the top 100 on that list, but I can appreciate it is a subjective subject.
Guest MattP Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 121. Casino being at number 130 is absolutely criminal, similar story but for me it's as good as Goodfellas. Quite a few of these I've got in my DVD collection but have never got around to watching them.
Finnegan Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Do me a favour. The list clearly favours several newer films voted for by nerds. Batman (no idea why they tried to make a hero wearing such a ridiculous outfit into a serious film) The Lord of the Rings films, The Matrix, the last Harry Potter film. These should be nowhere near the top. A lot of people are really starved of truly great films from the past and it really shows. Some of those on that list are shockingly underrated, some massively overrated, and some ridiculously great films aren't even in the list at all. Of course it's subjective, and in my opinion the list is laughable. Some of the films on that list take the piss. You're right to an extent, Dark Knight is massively popular with a lot of prolific internet users and so is the IMDB, so of course it's going to be a list that displays that bias. But it's also a highly critically acclaimed blockbuster with widespread popularity. That and, though it may surprise you, not everyone loves Mafioso films. I personally find it shocking that Glengarry Glen Ross only has a 7.8 rating and is miles below standard De Niro fare in the rankings but, et, cest la vie.

I quite like Goodfellas, but it's much of a muchness where Mafia films are concerned. Like Matt says, Casino is just as good.......because it's very similar. With you on Glengarry Glen Ross. I barely know anyone who has seen it. Criminal.
Finnegan Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Probably one of the best performance pieces of the "modern" era. Stunningly simple vehicle for some of the greatest actors of their generation. Spacey must have learnt so much from that, Lemmon and Pacino particularly are blinding. Pacino one of the finest actors of all time. Definitely my favourite over De Niro in that old debate. Anyone who has Pacino dismissed as simply "Hoo-Har!" just quite categorically isn't a follower of good cinema.
Guest MattP Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Cheers fellas. Never seen Glengarry Glen Ross but its on Netflix so I'll give it a watch tonight.
Finnegan Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 Cheers fellas. Never seen Glengarry Glen Ross but its on Netflix so I'll give it a watch tonight. It is, yeah, was quite pleased when I saw it on there the other day. It's down beat so you need to be in that mood but I love it.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I've always found the De Niro and Pacino debate tiresome.

Guest MattP Posted 27 November 2013 Posted 27 November 2013 I've always found the De Niro and Pacino debate tiresome. I never got the point of it. They weren't in competition.
