Sharpe's Fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Was just looking at Russell Slades management history and came across a club I had never heard of before. Leicester United FC. Apparently a non-league side that played in the Midland divisions, were previously Enderby United and were killed off in the mid 90's. Do any of the older posters have any memories of this club?

pSinatra Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Used to go & watch a few games in Enderby back in the late 70's & early 80's. Weren't a bad little team. There may have been a few ex-professionals who played, but I was a bit young to know & I certainly don't recall any names. What used to be the ground is now a housing estate - behind the Enderby social club on Coleridge Drive/Kipling Drive. I'm not too sure but, I think they changed their name to Leicester United when they moved away from Enderby in the early 80's
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Yeah I can remember them being around, got wound up. Definitely former Enderby Town.
RedHux Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 I played against them once. My main memory was that they arrived in a coach which at the time I thought was pretty impressive.

Manwell Pablo Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Did Hullfox use to play for them? Yes he did. Wound up joke, terrible, but worthy of light applause
Soar Fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Hasn't their ground been knocked down now for a housing development? Countesthorpe Road.

That's actually really funny. Was watching Football League Show this morning, looked him up when I heard he was a teacher before a manager and then saw that and had a look. Pretty much the same as you did, but only just saw this now
fleckneymike Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Cloughy took a bung over 2 transfers from Leicester United but due to his ill health the FA never pursued it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Lyne

Guest Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 surprised that City fans don't know of them. They were only known as Leicester Utd for a short while.
AndyElZorro Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Played with Neil Lyne growing up. Wasn't that great tbh, but had the right attitude. I think Gary Birtles played for Enderby for a short while.
Voll Blau Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Their ground's Leicestershire Scouts HQ now isn't it?
Rocket-Ron Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Tony Loughlan went on to be Roy Keanes assistant manager and he also used to live in The Running Fox on Hastings Road I used to go to the bear cage with Tony back in the late 80's.
