We got to the Quarter finals!

We got to the Quarter finals!

I know mate, but look at our draws haha, no wonder, Top of the championship i'd expect us to get where we did, bar the fulham result... enjoyed that but they are shite this season!

Yeah I can.

Its the was the way he has worded it that is probably more of an issue than anything.

As long as we are not on completely different wave lengths... given me an idea ;) ill show you inabit haha

Surprised with this.

I'd put Villa into the 'should be O.K. in the league, not targeting Europe and a good enough squad to go on a cup run' category.

Along with Swansea, Southampton, Stoke and Hull.

I put them in that last year  :P

I hate that attitude. All about money.

If we were a mid-table Premier League team, I'd much rather we were in with a chance of winning the cup, than going for the top half.

Which memory lasts longer, an FA Cup win or an underwhelming Premier League stint?

This - by the spade load.

I suspect he will want to beat a relegation threated League One side tomorrow at home otherwise Lambert and the team will get some stick.

Sadly though generally he is probably just being honest - then again a few wins would boost the confidence and morale of a young side.

Didn't Villa basically send a Reserve side to Man City a few years back and also in the Europa league - clearly not fans of the cups!

Can we get promoted this season? Yes it is our best chance in a decade

Can we win the FA Cup this season? Highly highly unlikely

Might as well put more into going for something you can actually win.

Exactly my thoughts too - be interesting to see how many teams put reserve sides out Today.

To be honest, right now, id place much more emphasis on the league than the FA cup.

IF we were to get promoted, and established as a Premiership team, then i would be going for the FA cup without question.

Dont see the problem with prioritising, the top sides will look at the league and champions league as top priorities, whereas the lower sides will prioritise promotions and avoiding relegation naturally over the cup. Just pragmatic in my opinion.

The FA cup is becoming less valued as a competiton simply due to the fact that, IMO, It actually IS a lesser competition than the League/Champions League

They'll always be a reason for not wanting to have a real go at winning FA Cup games, trying to win the PL, get in the Champions League, get in the top 2/ play-offs, avoid relegation if you're looking for an excuse.

Im just playing devil's advocate, but all of those scenario's other than merely trying to get into the top 4 i myself would prioritise as more important than winning the FA Cup.

Get rid of replays, have every game settled on the day was the suggestion on Soccer Saturday to liven up the FA Cup.

Thoughts?

I've always though their should be no replays, we have enough games as is, this of course might stop much needed finances to clubs lower down the leagues.

There is a collective groan from both sets of fans and players when an FA cup tie ends in a draw, I appreciate a lucrative replay could be welcome by some small sides, it would detract a bit from the FA cup, but then that is happening anyway. Or scrap the league cup and make the FA cup 2 legs.

Plus I guess theres still a chance in extra time or pens for the smaller club to get through and increase their revenue that way.

Perhaps give the lower club the option to switch the tie to the bigger teams ground (used to happen in the past but havent seen it happen in a while) if the game must be settled on the day?

Arguably, settling on the day gives the lower league team a better chance to progress. Its hard to take a big team to a replay, get yourself up for another game and then beat them

If I was a Villa fan I'd be disappointed, they are not going to win that league, seem to struggle a hell of a lot for a big club and the only two things they can realistically aim for are the two domestic cup competitions and then their manager comes out with that guff.

It's 6 games FFS! If professional footballers can't play an extra 6 games in a season without being tiered then there is something wrong with your coaching!

You play football, we watch football for the big games and to win things... Play your heart out for 6 games and you have a medal to show your grand kids....

I hope they go down to go some way to disproving this utterly ridiculous theory.

I'm sure Villa will be back to being on course to qualifying for the 'Champions' League now that they're out of this doomed curse of a competition.

spread out the FA cup ties over the season rather than all in the second half.

It is already spread out over the whole season, isn't it? Preliminary rounds start very early doors.
