Anti-Climax Signings

I have to mention Dennis Wise in this thread (apologies for the language) not that I was excited and then let down but because the bloke was such a total willy puller. Expected nothing and got a total dick.

Roger Davies.

Had done well for Derby, won player of the season in Belgium with Bruges and then Dr. Doolittle signed him in December 1977.

Bloody awful.

Captain Pancake Face - I think most of us had made a point of forgetting about Akinbiyi. Thanks for the reminder.

There's about 11 years of counselling down the pan  lol

Beckford (after his scoring exploits for Leeds and even more after his amazing effort against Chelsea for Everton),Fernandes and Johnson.

Especially Johnson, I thought he was a prodigy  who lost his way and that we could save his career.

Martin Allen made 14 signings NONE of whom played in the last match of the season v Sheff W  !  who were they ?

Bloody hell that's an interesting, and quite telling stat.

Obviously he was a genius in the window and we went down for ignoring the brilliance he brought here lol

Stephen Clemence, remember when we signed him. Thought wow we're just signed the best midfielder in the league. Birmingham had just gone up and he was their player of the year !!! Utter garbage in the end.

Matt Oakley, always rated him at Southampton. Thought he should had been capped by England. Derby best midfielder when they got promoted and also captain just like Clemence.

Yuki Abe - I announced the signing on this forum as I knew Paulo's scout who left with him of course. The scout told me that Yuki would be the best player in the league and would shock the world! Yuki wasn't bad but he wasn't any where near that good! But then again, he also referred to Ruben Rochina as the next Messi!

Yuki was good but I would say he was more average, sad to see him go  :(  Wonder how's he getting on now?

I'm sad to say though Yuki was only really signed for a publicity stunt, to help boost the clubs name in the far east.

Arnar Gunnlaugsson, took ages to sign and when he did he was bang average,4 goals in 39 appearances

They were bloody good goals though  :D  lol

Clemence is a very good shout actually. I wouldn't say he was garbage but he was nowhere near as good as I hoped he'd be. Same with Yuki Abe.

To be honest, have we ever paid good money for a player who's turned out well? There cannot possibly be a club in the country who has such a bizarre correlation between how much was paid for that player and how they actually performed.

Thinking back we had a young lad called Dave Buchanan,i was only young myself but i vaguely remember he was supposed to be the dogs dooberries, what went wrong.

Some people just seem to be posting people who were unsurprisingly plain shite rather than those that came with huge fanfare / hype and failed to live up to expectations.

I mean, Elvis? Kishishev? Cadamarteri? Did people genuinely think any of these would excel with us?

Has to be Sven and Peter Taylor

Both former England managers - loved by the press - apparently loads of contacts - both had unprecedented financial backing - both were utter garbage - complete emperors clothes job - when you look at their records it's all there - but still they are treated like the aristocracy of modern football

Leave him alone

Darren Eadie and Matt Jones for me. I really rated both of them before they joined, then they both got crippled. Terrible luck really; our midfield could've been a lot better in the post-O'Neill era had Jones especially stayed fit.

I don't know about that... One's managing some no-mark Chinese club and the other is managing Gillingham. Hardly prestigious positions.

Found out by football but still generally revered by media
