fleckneymike Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Just an average of 67 per game. Our 341 short passes per game is some way shy of the 400+ enjoyed by QPR and Brighton though. We also have the fewest % of shots (3) inside the 6 yard box and the lowest % of shots outside the box (40%) in the league, however the highest % (57) in the 18 yard box. Is that the reason for Phillips signing?
Jakemoore Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 We also have the most points this season so far and the most wins.

Is that the reason for Phillips signing? How are "long passes" and "short passes" defined? Interesting stats and slightly surprising. I know we mainly play passing football, but we do mix it up a bit. For a start, Schmeichel plays a number of "long passes" per game (often quite effectively). Come to think of it, our defenders and central midfielders don't play many long balls compared to previous seasons or other teams. Though there are a fair number of long, cross-field balls from Dyer, Knockaert and others. I assume that the lack of goals in the 6-yard box has to do with the sort of role that Nugent & Vardy play - funnelling back to get involved in creative play and roaming around working hard, rather than just goal-hanging like Beckford? Also, when Lloyd breaks down the left side, anyone making runs for him is usually about 20m behind him....
K1FOX Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 That's why Phillips will be such a shrewd signing. Always sniffing around waiting for a tap in from a rebound or a cross across the face of goal. Nuge and vardy aren't poachers, their game involves getting involved in the play and going to the ball or making runs off it, wood you can argue is a little bit more of a poacher type but Phillips will be a welcome addition and will get us a couple of vital goals this season.

deanolegend1989 Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Who cares! All that matters is were top and the best team in the league..
davieG Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 We must be one of the lowest scorers from corners and quite high in conceding from them. Are these included in the shot stats?
KFS Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Who cares! All that matters is were top and the best team in the league..There's always going to be ways to improve in football though.
Alf Bentley Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 I assume they would come under clearances I'd be surprised, though I don't know the source of this data. 30-40 years ago, a lot of keepers' long kicks might've been defined as clearances, but keeper distribution has come on a lot in that time. Schmeichel is generally very good with his distribution - most of his long kicks (and long throws) are deliberate "passes" to a particular teammate, not random clearances. Indeed, he's quite capable of setting up dangerous attacks and chances.

Captain... Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 And some fans of other teams still think we only play "hoof ball" And that we are dangerous from set-pieces, amazing how that reputation has stuck.
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Who makes this possible? Nugent and Vardy. This is why Ive called for ages NOT to play Wood in the first team, at least not consistently. You have a big bloke up top, you instinctively look for him. Vardy/Nuge give you quick, possession football. Their partnership is crucial to our success.

During the run up to the transfer window a lot of strikers names have been thrown about in conversation and for me there are a lot of players who are probably better than what we've got that I just wouldn't want near this team. We have a balance and a playing style which I would hate to upset. I like Wood a lot and if he finds his scoring boots again he will be very useful on the days when plan a doesn't work, but unfortunately starting him has an adverse effect on the passing/pressing game we've been playing so well.
Guest MattP Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 And some fans of other teams still think we only play "hoof ball" More bizzarely, so do some of our own.

StanSP Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Most points and the number '1' to the left of our name is the best stat of all .
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Col'I'vebeensayingthisforages'cityfan I don't know if it counts if you throw out wildly differing opinions and predictions based on your mood, and then cherry-pick which of these "came in" at a later date. Like betting on every horse in a race, then bragging that you backed the winner No offense Col, but please reduce the amount of "I've said for ages" and "I said before"'s. Or at least provide sources when you make such claims

But if you play him you must play a certain way to get the best out of him. I'd rather play the keep it on the floor tippy tappy stuff and to be fair have been pretty clear on this. No offence taken.

Weirdly we have marginally more attacks from the right (39%) then the left (37%) BUT the left side generates more shots (25%) than the right (17%). We have the second highest % of time spent in the opposition half in the division with 32% of our play taking place there (it should be noted that Millwall have an identical amount but clearly we are more effective). Kasper's passes don't include clearances (he makes on average 1.2 clearances per game). He does have the lowest pass completion rate (unsurprisingly) at 47% with only 7 long passes on average per match from a total of 23 passes per game. Another unexpected result is how low GTF's pass completion is, a mere 66.4%. We also have the most points this season so far and the most wins. We do, but as everyone knows that I didn't feel it necessary to mention it.

Col - can you elaborate on the "certain way to get the best out of" Chris Wood please or are you withholding that so you can chime in later when he does something good/bad (delete as appropriate). Just messin' I actually think Wood is a "Fox in the Box" and playing long ball is actually some sort of hype the team believe when he is on the pitch. I loved his cheeky back heel last game. I have a lot of time for the lad and I think working with GTF will supplement his natural finishing...dare I say predatory...skills with some hold up play - to feet. Loving the stats though. All interesting but at the end of the day, I think you can over analyse football. I'd like to think we have the paciest team in the league now which is partly why we are winning. Decisive passing and a settled team is also helping. Good work big man...
Fox92 Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Pass. And. Move. Not to bothered about statistics like this. We're top of the league, freescoring, attacking, playing nice football, have the most wins, the most points and not that high in the disciplinary record. What else is that important to cover?
