City fan banned from stadium for calling someone an idiot

Hi, I'm the guy who posts under the username "The Dungeon Master" on JA606, you've seen my post earlier.

To reiterate what I've said earlier, I don't condone what Steve did. In my mind, whether you're finding a member of staff surly and rude yourself, there's still no need to be rude back. But that's my philosophy, I'm sure others will think differently.

What I was trying to say in a round-about way is that the press he was getting on here was wrong. People saying that they remember playing against him at 5-a-side and saying he was horrible to his teammates, people concluding that it must be him in the wrong whatever really happened. The first page of this in particular is a total character assassination of someone that most people on here know very little about.

I can see why people like Larry are coming to the conclusion that it must have been worse than being reported - it does seem like a very harsh punishment for someone who has only called one member of staff an idiot behind his back, so yes, my first impression as well could well have been that it couldn't be as simple as that. I don't blame anyone for thinking that. But I know the guy and I wanted to explain to everyone what I know him to be like, almost like a reference.

As for S.BRAX, I've no idea who he is, although he clearly knows one or two details about Steve. That doesn't mean I believe him though. All I see is a name on an internet forum, and someone posting incredibly angry things for no apparent reason - which makes me think he's either someone having a rather cruel laugh at his expense or someone who already has it in for Steve and his family. I also absolutely do not recognise S.BRAX's depiction of Steve as a human being, another thing which leads me to believe he's having you on.

If it turns out that Steve did swear at the guy then what can I say - he'll have lied to me and the more fool me for believing him. But from what he's said and what he is, I do believe him.

And Larry, Jackubu is Steve's son Jack. (I think, assuming it's the same user name I recognise from JA606.)

Actually I'd like to think it's teaching people good manners making a come back.

No member of staff deserves any kind of abuse when doing their job. Whether that's someone calling him and idiot or a c-unit, the word used shouldn't matter, the meaning is there for all to see quite clearly.

Perhaps three games is excessive if you take him at his word, but lets be honest that's all it is. And seemingly there is a different side to this story judging by the poster above.

Just because someone is handing money over a counter, doesn't give them any right to have a go at someone just doing their job. If you have a problem, take it up with someone higher up the chain.

99.9% of us won't ever know what happened, but going on what he apparently said, well then no one on here had good manners,we should all he banned from going to watch city as we've all at some point verbally abused a player in one way or another,it it was a crime the nugent,Pearson and co would have had us all locked up in the past 12 months,it's embarrassing realy!

FAO Foxestalk - Defending a friend

by The_Dungeon_Master (U4830)

COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

I've tried (and so far failed) to sign up to Foxestalk today because of this article:

http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/92192-city-fan-banned-from-stadium-for-calling-someone-an-idiot/

This is referring to a recent incident which has caused our fellow poster and a good friend of mine Steve (Glorialesterfan) to get a ban from the King Power stadium and fanstore. I met up with him last night and this is what we discussed:

He went to the fanstore from the family stand at half time during a recent match and, while there, he was watching Sky Sports on the televisions along with other fans because half-time scores were popping up at the time. Soon, a member of staff came along and went aroun turning all of the televisions over to a picture of the empty pitch. Steve pointed out that fans were watching it for the half-time scores and the staff member stated that that's what he was told to do. Finding the staff member rather surly, Steve commented to his son that the staff member was an idiot. This was obviously loud enough to be heard, because the staff member complained that he was being verbally abused. Now Steve has various bans over his head and won't be allowed back until he signs a good behaviour order.

Now, I'm not going to advocate his behaviour here. I've advised Steve to simply accept his medicine, apologise and get on with it. But this has started to escalate to other areas, not least Foxestalk where a picture has been posted of a rather comical "Free the Leicester 1" (see the link), and it now appears to be open season on him there.

I wanted to go on Foxestalk to stand up for him there directly, but I've had trouble trying to sign up. So instead I can only make my points here:

- I've known him for years, first as a teammate in the Leicester City 606 supporters' team, and very shortly after as a friend. I've been to away matches with him, I've hiked up a mountain with him, I've even sung karaoke with him. I enjoy his company.

- People on Foxestalk who know nothing or very little about him are casting aspersions on Steve's character. I can tell them that I do know Steve and he's a decent man with a big heart. Unfortunately (and he knows this), he also has a big gob at times that lands him in precisely this kind of trouble.

- He tells me that he didn't swear in the shop. I believe him. I suspect he may have unintentionally come across as being aggressive, but I strongly doubt this constitutes the kind of abuse that the fevered imaginations of Foxestalk are constructing.

- Steve didn't create that poster, which looks like it was intended as something of a joke and not in the way that Foxestalk are suggesting.

I'll repeat: I'm not advocating his actions. He should know better when to walk away and I've told him this. I get the impression he was giving a little rudeness back to someone who he felt was being rude to him and I get the impression that most of what happened was all about the way things were said rather than the actual words. But to anyone from Foxestalk who reads this - don't jump to conclusions and don't question his character. You don't know him.

So the employee had informed him that he had been told to turn the television over? So therefore the employee is not an idiot and calling him such is not acceptable.

You say yourself he may of come across as aggressive, this simply shouldn't be tolorated at any work place.

From my experience in there and I haven't been this season, the club always turn the television back to pictures of the ground a couple of minutes before the players walk back out again, so the fans in the shop don't actually miss any of the action at the game they are at.

To behave like this in front of your son, shows him this is an acceptable way to treat another person doing there job.

Good on the club for showing that you can't, I wish more places would offer banning orders for people who belittle, abuse or act in an overly aggressive way towards its employees.

Lucky to get a three match ban? Have a word mate! Personally I think anybody getting up him and saying he should be banned is a hypocrite!

How many of you week in week out abuse the stewards? If you called a steward an idiot would you be banned? No!

My old man is the head of match day security at Leicester and he's been abused for doing his job since 1971 but nobody had ever been banned for that so why should some jobsworth in an office demand more respect than someone trying to ensure that a crowd is managed properly during a game to ensure 'your' safety? BS!

So it's right to tell a 5yr old that another adult is an idiot is it.

When he's 15 and say's to you Fvck off you old w4nker and robs your wallet that will be ok to will it?

That must explain why there's so many criminals,

The parents told them another adult is an idiot,

Then when they turned 15 they become thieves,

Better not educate my children about about bad people being idiots,of they'll likely become criminals!!

The employee was just doing his job, you don't call the person serving at McDonalds a Nazi for putting cheese into a quarter pounder do you?

If someone put their cheese in my quarter pounder I'd call them a pervert!

Posted

Ok so let's sum this up.

Stewards - employees of lcfc - Ok to call idiots

Players - employees of lcfc - Ok to call idiots

Shop staff - employees of lcfc - allowed to be rude but not Ok to call idiots

not a fair comparison

You are missing the point completely. Most kids with bad parents turn into little shits. Parents who show no respect to other human beings, pass that onto their kids. Its not hard to understand.

While I haven't confirmed this with Steve directly, I thought the reason he described the guy as an idiot was because of the way the guy spoke to him rather than the lone act of turning off the televisions. That was just the way into the exchange.

My mate's dad, very nice guy and he called the bloke an idiot as described and I fully believe him.

The worker has obviously said more things that are untrue and according to that Barcley guy, he has no say in it.

Just buy another ticket in a different name, you won't get spotted unless you do something stupid.

Why should you have to buy another ticket when you've got a season ticket?

I'm just glad he hasn't reported the minor inconvenience to the Daily Mail. Guess they wouldn't be interested unless the TV was a Muslim.

Stadium bans are, in general, fvcking retarded. Good behaviour contracts are even more pathetic. Handing them out for a frustrated comment or a frustrated bang of the Perspex at the back of the stand, standing infront of 10 empty seats or lobbing a sandwich bag is utterly lunatic.

Clearly an apology would have sufficed here. You need to grow up if you think that the alleged 'crime' is worth the punishment in this case.

Next we'll be after bans for every other fvcker calling the referee a wanker. After all he's just 'doing his job'.

With respect, if you are steves son, you are hardly going to offer an unbiased, independent view. The difference is, being sworn or shouted at as a steward is expected. It comes as a hazard of the job. A lot of the time you are imposing authority (be it limited) and people may not always like it. If you sign up for it, you are naïve if you don't expect it. No different to police officers. They get called all sorts of shit, but it is expected and they accept it because that is the type of job. Not saying its right, but that's the way it is. Working in a shop is the last place I would expect to be abused at any level and it shouldn't be tolerated.

shut up you clown. you think its ok to abuse staff by swearing at them just because you couldnt get a watford ticket (yes i heard about your antics in the shop that day). i would love you to come to my place of work and bring that attitude with you, id slap that greasy mop off your head.

This thread is ridiculous for a start.

If anyone was the idiot, its the banned fan.

And whether the words used were just idiot, or f'ing idiot or whatever it was, the member of staff didnt deserve that, nor is it appropriate to speak to someone doing their job in that way. And however many mountain's the guy has walked up, or however much money he has raised does not give you a right to speak in such a condescending manner to someone following orders. And he has probably done this a fair few times too i would have thought to various workers in different companies so sets no example whatsoever

For most on here the debate isn't what he called him, it's the fact he called him something.

If he was informed by the employee that he'd been told to turn the screens off and 'Steve' just replied that he was an idiot, i'm sorry that's just devoid of manners and quite poor to put it frankly.

Posted

He deserves his ban, what gives him the right to walk into someones place of work and speak to them in that way just because he changed a tv chanel what an absolute TOSSER.

Turned it off actually while people were looking at the scores while also doing other things, a pointless thing to do for a reaction.

This is something I don't condone, why would you bring personal comments to the debate? You're not willing to divulge your identity so you definitely shouldn't be throwing comments like this around.
