City fan banned from stadium for calling someone an idiot

Recommended Posts

But was he/she an idiot?

Turning the tv's off while people are watching sounds an idiotic thing to do.

The 3 match ban sounds harsh but being banned from the shit overpriced store is no punishment at all.

So take it up with the person that told them to turn the telly's off.

Not the member of staff that was doing what he/she was told to do.

As stated the member of staff was instructed to switch them over by management. Rather than abusing him, the bloke should have gone and spoken to managment if he was really that upset about it. Being paid minimum wage to work on a Saturday is not enough to be called anything by a jumped up "fan" who thinks the world owes him something. As ive said, for the severity of the punishment, I strongly suspect we havent been given the full facts of this.

What sort of hypersensitive tool thinks the word 'idiot' is an example of abuse?!

Try teaching for a week and giving an adolescent with ADHD and behavioural problems an after-school detention, idiot will look mild.

Better yet, try doing my old job in a bookies next door to a pub when the local pisshead does his money.

For real abuse, see below.

So assuming Steve is telling the truth, it was ok that the member of staff had a surly attitude and manner. I would not tolerate that either.

Sylofox I have called other adults far worse than an idiot in front of my son when the need arises. Oddly enough I don't expect him to end up as someone who commits acts of robbery because of that.

FAO Foxestalk - Defending a friend

13 January 2014

I've tried (and so far failed) to sign up to Foxestalk today because of this article:

http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/92192-city-fan-banned-from-stadium-for-calling-someone-an-idiot/

This is referring to a recent incident which has caused our fellow poster and a good friend of mine Steve (Glorialesterfan) to get a ban from the King Power stadium and fanstore. I met up with him last night and this is what we discussed:

He went to the fanstore from the family stand at half time during a recent match and, while there, he was watching Sky Sports on the televisions along with other fans because half-time scores were popping up at the time. Soon, a member of staff came along and went aroun turning all of the televisions over to a picture of the empty pitch. Steve pointed out that fans were watching it for the half-time scores and the staff member stated that that's what he was told to do. Finding the staff member rather surly, Steve commented to his son that the staff member was an idiot. This was obviously loud enough to be heard, because the staff member complained that he was being verbally abused. Now Steve has various bans over his head and won't be allowed back until he signs a good behaviour order.

Now, I'm not going to advocate his behaviour here. I've advised Steve to simply accept his medicine, apologise and get on with it. But this has started to escalate to other areas, not least Foxestalk where a picture has been posted of a rather comical "Free the Leicester 1" (see the link), and it now appears to be open season on him there.

I wanted to go on Foxestalk to stand up for him there directly, but I've had trouble trying to sign up. So instead I can only make my points here:

- I've known him for years, first as a teammate in the Leicester City 606 supporters' team, and very shortly after as a friend. I've been to away matches with him, I've hiked up a mountain with him, I've even sung karaoke with him. I enjoy his company.

- People on Foxestalk who know nothing or very little about him are casting aspersions on Steve's character. I can tell them that I do know Steve and he's a decent man with a big heart. Unfortunately (and he knows this), he also has a big gob at times that lands him in precisely this kind of trouble.

- He tells me that he didn't swear in the shop. I believe him. I suspect he may have unintentionally come across as being aggressive, but I strongly doubt this constitutes the kind of abuse that the fevered imaginations of Foxestalk are constructing.

- Steve didn't create that poster, which looks like it was intended as something of a joke and not in the way that Foxestalk are suggesting.

I'll repeat: I'm not advocating his actions. He should know better when to walk away and I've told him this. I get the impression he was giving a little rudeness back to someone who he felt was being rude to him and I get the impression that most of what happened was all about the way things were said rather than the actual words. But to anyone from Foxestalk who reads this - don't jump to conclusions and don't question his character. You don't know him.

You seriously cant be this dumb to even believe a word that is coming out of his mouth, the guy is scum and showed no sort of respect to the fanstore staff by calling him and i quote something he forgot to mention to you, "youre a f******g idiot" to which the member of staff replied excuse me and once again he said "youre a f******g idiot" so do yourself a favour and take your head out of his ass because his son jack aint no better than him, he went into the fanstore guns blazing swearing at staff as well.

If someone came up to me in the shop I work in and started calling me an idiot (possibly more) to his kid, I wouldn't stand for it either. As I said, I don't get paid enough and it is more about the principle that the bloke thinks its ok to shout his mouth off with no consequences.

To be fair, I can quite easily believe this. Sounds nearer the truth.

To his face or not, it is still verbal abuse of someone just doing their job. Clearly the person was supposed to hear him say it to "his son". The guy needs to grow up and act is bloody age instead of whinging like a bitch when he gets punished.

That's ridiculous,I hope your comments sarcastic,

Do you think it's justified banning someone for 3 games for calling a jobs worth 'an idiot'',

Do you never slate a player if there playing crap,

To his face or not, that's verbal abuse,

We're all guilty of verbal abuse if calling someone an idiot is defined as verbal abuse,it's political correctness gone mad yet again!

As ive already said numerous times, I think the match ban is maybe excessive (but we don't know the full background). A store ban I think is fully justified, especially with what has just come to light from S.BRAX. We have been given a very moderated story from the bloke who has been banned. Always two sides.

Posted

He deserves his ban, what gives him the right to walk into someones place of work and speak to them in that way just because he changed a tv chanel what an absolute TOSSER.

Posted

S.BRAX is this account an eye witness account by yourself?

Was the staff member surly and was that all that Steve said / did?

This is all important info so the Foxestalk jury can come to a more informed decision.

Actually I'd like to think it's teaching people good manners making a come back.

No member of staff deserves any kind of abuse when doing their job. Whether that's someone calling him and idiot or a c-unit, the word used shouldn't matter, the meaning is there for all to see quite clearly.

Perhaps three games is excessive if you take him at his word, but lets be honest that's all it is. And seemingly there is a different side to this story judging by the poster above.

Just because someone is handing money over a counter, doesn't give them any right to have a go at someone just doing their job. If you have a problem, take it up with someone higher up the chain.

The last time I was offended by being called an idiot I think I was seven.  lol

This story has got the potential to be another Ian 'Investigative reporter' Stringer expose.... "We contacted the club for a response regarding the matter, they declined to comment."

Thank you and Good Night.

The club are dreadful when it comes to commenting on issues with fans. I would say it's a shocking lack of transparency, but they're hardly alone in the football world.

To be fair to the guy I'd apologise but you certainly wouldn't get me signing some behaviour contact like I'm a naughty boy who has been caught behind the bike sheds at school.

It's looks a bit embarrassing from both sides, the staff member who complained must be a right pussy as well as an idiot.

Valid. Sounds like a condescending load of horseshite.

What are the actual terms of these things anyway?

How will he know if yours is an eye witness account. He will undoubtedly be biased towards his dad. If you we're there then yours is an independent view and therefore without biase.

"I promise not to be a immature gobshite if I don't get my own way, especially not in front of my children, and definitely not to someone just doing his job." Maybe?

When I was a student I worked part time in retail and I can tell you that during my time there I realised that just under half the people in a day that I came in to contact with treated me like I was some sort of ****. They think this "customer is always right bollocks" means they can say whatever they want and treat people who they deem beneath them like shit. Good on the club for banning him, maybe next time he will treat a fellow human doing a job with a bit of respect.

Totally agree with this, and i work in retail now.

I notice he didn't say that he came down the mountain with him. Mmmmmm.

Thing about Brokeback mountain is he probably came down somewhere else....

Love the assumptions people are making here.

His son is 13 years old not 5.

Steve said to his 13 year old son "he has had enough of the club" To which the staff member replied "Why do you bother coming back" Thats acceptable behavior from an employed member of staff isn't it, oh and a lot of respect was obviously shown there.

Steve did NOT swear in anyway shape or form to the member of staff. No bad language was used not even to talk indirectly about the staff member. He does have a short temper at times but he is an adult who isn't stupid, unlike some of the comments on here.

The mountain they went up was for charity, all in aid of LOROS. He's definitely a horrible person. Another charity event is already being organised for a Leicester related charity.

He's been to most games following Leicester over the past 30 years and he certainly isn't the sort of fan our club should be turning away for a comment made to his son.

If anyone wants to congratulate the club on their behavior does anyone want to explain the following. For a couple of months i have been trying to arrange a meeting with Kevin Barclay to which he had agreed to. However recently i received an email saying the meeting was on hold until further notice "due to reasons they cannot talk about"

So they banned him for saying "hes had enough of the club". Please, pull the other one.

Were you there truthfully, or has steve told you this?
