The comments below from Leeds fans argue that we've spent loads of money on our team where as they haven't been able to do that. I'm not sure how much Leeds have spent on their squad over the last few seasons, but wanted to see if we could get an idea of what we've spent on our current squad (that has got us this far this season - so actually plays)? If this has been done already, then please point me in the right direction and delete the thread - I couldn't find it when I searched. Below is what I reckon we have spent on each player, based on a pretty bad memory - please feel free to edit if you've got a better idea of what we did spend on them as I am sure I'm wrong with a few if not all of them. Kasper - 1.5m 1M De Leat 750k 1M Morgan 800k Moore Free Konch 1.5m Knocky - 800k 2.4M James - 750k 1M Drinky 1m Dyer 400K Free Nuge Free Vardy 1m Logan Free King Free GTF Free Schlupp Free Was Free Wood 1.2M = 9.7 Million 9.3M 10.9M? I don't know exactly what other teams have spent on their squads that have been playing this season, but I bet we're not top 6. It does annoy me that we're still thought of as being big spenders on par with the likes of QPR, when we're really not! The work that Nige and co have done to get rid of players like Mills and Beckford has been fantastic, and the players that have been bought in since have all been at reasonable prices/free. What a top manager we've got. Any contributions to the money we've paid for players would be much appreciated.

Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I thought Knocky was more than that, and that James and RDL were about 1 mill each, I've seen 1.7 quoted for Vardy too, but it really is all speculation as the official figures and add ons are never released. I suspect our reputation as big spenders will be as much on the wages we can offer as the money we have spent.

Langston Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Leeds really haven't spent much on transfer fees, think Luke Murphy is the only player they've managed to bring in at over a million quid. I'd have thought we'd be pushing top 6 but we'd only be outside due to recently relegated sides continued spending and Forest's desire to replicate us in 11/12. We've parted with quite a fair bit of cash.

The problem with most squads/management teams/ clubs in this division is that there are too many excuses. People pay too much attention to names, transfer fees and previous experience, where as it's virtually proven that if you gather a group of players who are: hard working, honest, have good footballing ability but have the strong character value to get out of what is probably the hardest league in the world, then you're on to a winner. I've never heard Nigel in the media laud a squad for 'how much they've spent' and he no qualms when we were knocked out of the playoffs by a loaned first eleven from Champions League Udinese last year. It's refreshing to see our team and staff instilling that work ethic that means that we're grafting through this division, and I think its a gross injustice for Leeds fans and their management team to use this fictitious heaps of money spent as an excuse for us doing well.

Yep I have to agree with all you've said there. It is the work ethic and desire along with a number of other factors that mean we are where we are, and yet managers/fans will point at one of the many factors as a reason for success. Nige has too much class to be dragged into any of that though.

Yeah but if your talking transfer fee's alone it's also a massive myth that QPR have spent big. From their starting 11 against Ipswich they paid money for one player and that was Austin (4 Mil) Rest were free's or loans.

Our team's hardly full of stars that's the thing I don't get about the "big spending" Leicester comments. They weren't too displeased to see the back of Kasper, De Laet and James were basically unknown when we signed them, Morgans played Championship or lower his whole career, Konchesky is old has lost a yard and we weren't his first Championship side, Moore's a youth product. Drinkwater has been out on loan at several very average Championship clubs and was sent back on every occasion. Knockaert was a no one from from the French second division, Dyer's been here since the League One days, Vardy's a million pound conference player who was garbage last season so you're really left with David Nugent who could be considered a big name as he's played Prem/International football and it still in his prime, and he was free. Then we've got the biggest clown in the division as a reserve keeper, another two youth team products, and Gary Taylor Fletcher who couldn't get a contract at Millwall on the bench, and we've just signed a 40 year old....
