LCFC FOX Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMMhkPp_GEs#t=33 Any of them not stone wall?
bovril Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The Brum guy appeared to get the ball. Blackburn one was soft. But as someone mentioned last week, if you run at Championship defenders with the pace we have, it is quite likely to end in a penalty.
lgfualol Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I can understand why a few people think they're soft, Wigan, Blackburn, etc. But there's contact in all of them. It's just the pace of the players, De Laet, Vardy, Dyer all in the box, if you're a defender you have to get it perfect if you dont make contact with one of those.
Bayfox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Dont blame us. Blame players like ayala yesterday. No need to make a challenge when vardy was going away from goal.
Dan Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 A few of them were quite soft IMO but the majority were stone-wallers. Birmingham and Blackburn were both 50/50 and I think Drinkwater's definitely intended to go down at the Forest one. Notice how nearly every one of them is at home?
AKCJ Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I think Drinkwater looks for it in the one against Forest. Also think that the one against Birmingham is a decent tackle.
Unabomber Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Couldn't believe the tackle on Vardy yesterday considering the one we won against Derby. I hope teams carry on not learning from others.

As AKCJ says above, it looked a decent tackle.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Birmingham ref's got it wrong, good tackle Blackburn I can understand why some would say soft as there is clear contact with the ball but for me their there's a unneeded scissor sort of action after the initial contact from Tommy Spurs that brings De Laet down and if he doesn't do that there's every chance Richie stays on his feet and could of got his cross in. I actually think Drinkwater has sold the Forest one to the ref, undoubtedly there is contact from Vaughn but nowhere near enough to force Drinkwater to his feet, not that it mattered. Burnley is just stupidity on their half, hard to say it's not a penalty but it's a needless challenge on Vardy, he's lost control of the ball. Knockaert dives, I guess Cummings has given him the opportunity to do so buy putting his arms up when he's clearly done but there's no way that was enough to bring him down. The two most interesting things I took from that video were nothing to do with was it/wasn't it a spot kick though. The body language and facial expressions of David Nugent before each spot kick is fascinating from a Psychology point of view. Compare the Wigan penalty when we were already a goal up where he stops to have a little rhye smile at Scott Carson for not standing in the middle of his goal, to the Forest miss when we really needed a goal in a big game, he really doesn't look like he wants to there at all, and incidentally despite dispatching several great penalties into the roof of the net pre Forest, he's not tried to hit the top of the goal since skying it against them. Secondly, a lot of Vardy's penalties are purely about getting to the ball first and not worrying about whether or not he's going to run the ball out of play after, it's like he knows when a rash challenge is coming and the way he play's it is all about drawing that and getting a penalty from it, and it's really quite clever. There's Saturday, Derby, Burnley, one against the keeper and one other where I think if there's no challenge Vardy will simply run the ball into nonthreatening area or even in some cases out for a GK, but he get's there first draws the challenge knocks the ball 10 yards in front of him and still wins the pen.
Kitchandro Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Birmingham one was harsh, he probably got the ball. Blackburn one could have gone either way I suppose, depends on whether you think he takes the ball or the man first. The Reading one was a bit soft, David Speedie- esque. The Forest one there is contact but Drinky goes down very easily. Other than that they can't complain.
Fox_in_spain Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 We should post that video on the Burnley forum - would soon shut them up! Birmingham and Reading I'd say were soft, Drinky was looking for the Forest one, but other than that, I don't really see how they can have any complaints. Indeed, in about half of them there weren't even complaints from the opposition players!
Storming Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Loving the penos at the KP Betfair give you 3/1 on a peno being given money for old rope
Unabomber Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Would have been interesting if Paul had taken all of our penalties to see how many he would have scored and also to have a defender that high in the scoring charts.
Kitchandro Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Vardy must have a little chuckle to himself every time he wins a penalty. I bet he can't believe how dense defenders are for keep falling for it. If Middlesbrough had done any research on him at at all they'd have known what was coming yesterday. He's just waiting for some idiot to dive in. He's a genus at committing players into fouls.

In a different thread I said it was very soft and you told me to "come off it he went through the back of Vardy"

Manwell Pablo Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Agreed. He shifts the ball just at the right moment It's not even shifting, What he does is he charges towards the ball, makes sure he gets there first, doesn't care where the ball's going after which is where it really works if you ask me, most players trying to take control of the ball would have to slow down and would get tackled, after which he leaves his leg into to be caught, penalty, very clever

In a different thread I said it was very soft and you told me to "come off it he went through the back of Vardy" Yeh well having seen it again it could have gone either way. You do follow my posts pretty closely though I notice.

He literally just legs it to the ball and if the defenders didn't tackle him he would just end up straight out of play and fans would wonder wtf he was doing. He deserves a lot of credit for what he is doing as he is specifically trying to win penalties and in the main he is doing so fairly.
Soar Fox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Yeh well having seen it again it could have gone either way. You do follow my posts pretty closely though I notice. Don't flatter yourself fella. I made a comment 2 weeks ago that I thought it was soft you disagreed then 2 weeks later you say it could have gone either way. It's hardly as if I've dragged up a post of yours from a year or two ago.
yorkie1999 Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The simple reason we get penalties is because we've got smallish pacey lads up front who play with the ball at their feet in the box. Most sides play to a big forward with wingers crossing the ball in. You're hardly ever going to get a penalty awarded with that style of play because it becomes a 50-50 ball and it's more likely going to be a foul for the defender.

Indeed, without going into the deep theory of it all I think it's something he'd of learnt to do lower down, and has found it works against players playing at this level as they expect a striker to try and remain in control of the ball at all times in the final third.
DennisNedry Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Wycombe - YES Birmingham - NO Carlisle - YES Wigan - Probably NO Blackburn - NO Blackpool - NO Barnsley - YES Yeovil - Can't tell Forest - NO Burnley - YES Reading - NO Bolton - YES Derby - YES Middlesbrough - YES I make that 6 penalties we've been awarded that shouldn't have been. Watching that, I can really see why QPR and Burnley think we're a favoured team!
Corky Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Blackburn is debatable, Reading was soft too. The rest are strong cases, most clear cut.
