Harry - LCFC Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I remember a pretty obvious penalty not given in the Birmingham game so I think it's fair to overlook the ref's mistake in that game.
ousefox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Birmingham the only one I definitely wouldn't have given. The rest I wouldn't argue if they went against us.
Matt Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Couldn't believe the tackle on Vardy yesterday considering the one we won against Derby. I hope teams carry on not learning from others. I thought this, almost a carbon copy. For the record this proves my point I made a year or two ago, I made the statement on here 'You make your own luck' at the time we had no 'luck' at all, why? Because we weren't attacking enough, this season we ultra attacking, our players, Vardy in particular are getting in the box, the more you are in the box, the more chances you have of a foul being committed and winning a penalty, simple as that reason, it's no coincidence.
Fox92 Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Regardless of whether we think they were a penalty or not, they were given. Fed up of other fans commenting about the amount of penalties. Not our fault is it? If the referee thinks it's a penalty, then it's a penalty and he gives it. What should we do give the opposition the ball back? Vardy did so well for that penalty again yesterday.

Corky Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Birmingham wasn't though. Oh yes, missed out that one. Still, all Vardy's were penalties, and certainly I wouldn't be complaining if they'd been against us. But our players don't seem to dive in recklessly.

Fox92 Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 K'inell calm down were just having a discussion about it. I know, again. But I was aiming that at opposition fans.
Guest ttfn Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 So to take each of these in turn: Wycombe - Obvious penalty. Clipped the back of King's legs as he went into the box. Birmingham - Not a penalty. Initially I thought it was a bit harsh but probably a penalty but having seen that a couple of times that is a great tackle. Carlisle - Obvious penalty. Great work from Vardy. Wigan - Debatable but probably a penalty. Clipped the back of Vardy's legs as he's running. Probably a bit unlucky for Beausejour as I'm sure he doesn't mean to foul him, but that doesn't mean it's not a foul. Blackburn - Debatable but probably not a penalty. At first I thought this was definitely not a penalty from my view in the West Stand but looking at that replay whilst the Blackburn player gets the ball he does so by wrapping his legs around De Laet. Blackpool - Obvious penalty. I can't believe somebody above has disputed it - their lad just kicks Drinkwater's standing leg away. You can tell by the Blackpool guy's reaction. Barnsley - Obvious penalty. Just wipes Vardy out. Yeovil - Obvious penalty. A clear trip. Forest - Debatable but probably a penalty. Anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul, but Drinkwater certainly isn't playing within the spirit of the rules of the game there, no need to go down. Burnley - Obvious penalty. Sandwiched out of it by two Burnley players. Reading - Debatable but probably a penalty. The Reading player grabs Knockaert's arm. If he doesn't do that Knockaert doesn't go down. An example of something which is arguably a dive and a penalty (as is Drinkwater's). Bolton - Obvious penalty. Just wipes Vardy out. Derby - Obvious penalty. Just wipes Vardy out. Middlesbrough - Obvious penalty. Just wipes Vardy out. So I make that 9 penalties that were obvious penalties, 3 that were debatable but I think the referee made the right decision, 1 that was debatable but I think the referee made the wrong decision and 1 that was a complete cock up from the ref. Plenty of the above, even the most obvious of penalties, are ones where our players have gone looking for it, but that doesn't change the fact that they have been (in most cases) pretty obviously fouled to the extent that they definitely couldn't have stayed on their feet (four complete wipe outs of Vardy alone in the list above). I think it goes to show the value of running at players with pace. As Manwell Pablo has said above, a lot of the time Vardy seems to have little intention of doing anything but winning a penalty, but that doesn't make the penalty any less legitimate. Every incident involving Vardy (with the exception of Wigan) doesn't have a hint of controversy to it. On each occasion he's turned, run at pace and been completely clattered by the idiot defenders who refuse to learn their lesson. The last three penalties have all been completely avoidable defensively, but it is Vardy's directness and pace which is frightening them into making mistakes.
Bert Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Struggling to see how the Brum one wasn't a penalty? Might've got a slight touch on the ball but he absolutely wipes Dyer out!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 All are fair shouts for a penalty. Just depends on the ref.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The bigger point is we need a different penalty taker Nugent is not a good penalty taker.
Carl the Llama Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Struggling to see how the Brum one wasn't a penalty? Might've got a slight touch on the ball but he absolutely wipes Dyer out! This. He clearly gets the ball, but only after he slices through Dyer on his way to it.

It could be better but it's not poor either. Does anyone know what the average strike rate from the spot is? That'll give us a good indication.

Stadt Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Nugent's penalties aren't struck with enough power or put in the right place. Even when he scores his penalties are at a dodgy height
A fox for life Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I can't believe the amount of people who think its EASY to score a penalty, some of you are deluded!!! look at the UTD cup game last week, all players that are A LOT better than our players and think back to all the England games of the past. IMO he has done very well, all but one has hit the target (although the forest hit the crossbar slightly) the two he missed we're where the keeper guessed right, I personally don't want anyone else.

"Deluded" seems to be a new buzz word on here and I'm not sure most people are using it properly. It's literally the new literally. Nugent is doing fine from the spot. Fine but not well. This is borne out by statistics, with 79% of penalties being scored and his having scored 75% this season and 77% in his career.

I think you're deluded with regard to misuse of the word "deluded" on here. Anyway, the guy used it correctly. Whether the people to whom he is referring are deluded or not doesn't affect whether or not his use of the term deluded is semantically correct.
Soar Fox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Just watching back the penalties Nugent has took I thought his best one's were again Birmingham, Barnsley and Blackburn. Bolton and Middelsborough are almost identical with the same sort of run up and same side. Though he scored it the one versus Wigan was a bit lucky.
jammie82uk Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The bigger point is we need a different penalty taker Nugent is not a good penalty taker. I think he has done a good job with the penalties Apart from the forest one and strangely missed all 3 in front of the kop But When you have so many in a short period of time your bound to be found out a little Just like when dyer gets the ball you know 99% of the time it's gonna be knocked past the defender to the byline to cross Just for curiosity sake who whould you have taking the penalties
Les-TA-Jon Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 All of them are fair shouts for penalties. Most are stonewall too. Vardy is very clever at getting to the ball first and drawing fouls. Also most championship keepers and defenders are pretty stupid too to be honest! Also, watch that video again, we're very good at simulating. I'm not saying diving; none of them were dives. But we're good at going down and making it look genuine. We're not doing the continental thing of throwing our arms up, theatrically going down and immediately looking round at the ref. Our players also don't appeal them too vigorously; we almost look sheepish to accept them. It's very clever stuff, and it's another area we've improved on massively this season. Playing the ref and being a bit cynical, which is something we haven't done for years.
EdinburghFox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I think Drinkwater looks for it in the one against Forest. Also think that the one against Birmingham is a decent tackle. maybe controversial.....but o think that the brum one was pretty stone wall.he comes in 2 footed which is a foul also he shows no regard for Dyers safety and is reckless which is also a foul in the rule book the rule isn't about getting the ball, I think he got the player first
