Grandad. Posted 22 April 2014 Posted 22 April 2014 Same team as me but different formations. Yeah seen mate, I would like us to set up in the 'Liverpool Diamond', where you get your two midfielders in front of Gerrard to press the ball in areas and play the percentages, not restrict wingers to just up and down work. This formation gets Sterling drifting all across and around hopefully the oppositions final third, making him a nightmare to pick up, he can stretch teams and now he is bringing quality to his game, he could be a huge player for England. Worse case scenario, that group of players can easily go to a natural 4-4-2 with Sterling and Lallana on the wings or a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 with Rooney playing behind Sturridge and Henderson in a central role with Gerrard.

I can't believe how good Sterling has been recently playing in that role Rodgers deserves massive credit for that as most managers would never have even tried it and just stuck him out on the wing. I only went for the 4-2-3-1 as I can't see Roy playing the diamond as he hasn't before, I would definitely like to see him try it in the friendlies leading up to the WC.
Dan Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Hart Johnson - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines Gerrard - Henderson Sterling - Barkley - Lallana Sturridge Attack without fear.
GingerrrFox Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 What's everyone's thoughts about James Milner as a RB? Personally think he would do a good job there and I don't rate Johnson, Walker, Smalling or Jones. Johnson is the best of that bunch but I think he's still a weak link.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 How can you take a player who still isn't fit and hasn't played in the last two months? Why take a player who is in no form what so ever, over a player who's played and in form? Makes no sense at all, may as well go back to the old days of the National side. Because he's good. I doubt Germany will leave Ozil out or Holland will leave out Van Persie.
Grandad. Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Because he's good. I doubt Germany will leave Ozil out or Holland will leave out Van Persie. Are you seriously comparing Wilshire to Ozil and Van Persie? Wilshire is nowhere near being fit and how can he prove his form and fitness in three games, I doubt Arsenal would even use him in their final three games unless it was off the bench. So why would you take him? Why would you lose out on a player like Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Milner, Barkley, Gerrard, Sterling or Townsend for a half fit Jack Wilshire who has played 23 games this season and hardly done anything to prove his worth for England recently. One minute fans are calling for the inform players to be selected for the major tournaments and squads and then the next people are calling for injured players to be in the squad and starting in a World Cup.
kingcarr21 Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 I still think Wilshere hasnt done enough to warrant this status of being the 'next big thing'. Good player but thats it. I struggle to see what he has done 'Consistently' to be branded as world class. I wouldnt even consider him for WC seeing as we have other midfielders who have played well this season who deserve a seat on the plane ahead of a half fit injury prone Wilshere

Wilshere has resumed training with Arsenal. He will able to prove his fitness in the friendlies we have against Peru, Honduras and Ecuador before the World Cup. I would have Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Barkley, Gerrard and Sterling in my squad as well. Milner and Townsend are hardly playing 90 minutes every week are they.

Meaningless friendlies to prove your fitness for a major tournament? God, we have a modern day Peter Taylor here, clueless. Wilshire will not start any of Arsenal's remaining three games, unless they are definitely in the top four, so how can you take a player in your 23 man squad who won't have started a Premier League game since March 3rd? He won't be back to full fitness as he will not have had enough game time and would you take a player with no form whatsoever? Milner won't start for England, he is going to be going as a player who can play in a number of roles for England and more importantly he will be going fully fit. Let's take an injury prone midfield who has missed a lot of the season and expose him in the middle of midfield in them conditions.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 And Wilshere is? He would be if he was fit.

Ok then let's leave one of our best midfielders at home Milner never plays for his club and he's not as good as Wilshere. Wilshere has to go if fit. Simple. He's too good not to go.
Dan Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 Based on what? I wouldn't rule out Milner starting either.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 23 places up for grabs in the squad. I would break it down into- 3 Keepers 8 Defenders 7 Midfielders 5 Strikers The only certainties in my opinion , unless they are injured would be- Hart Cahill, Walker, Johnson, Baines, Jagielka Gerrard, Wilshire, Milner, Lallana, Sterling Rooney, Wellbeck, Sturridge The rest of the places are pretty much wide open, who would you take?
Webbo Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 You'd have to take someone like Jones who can fill in in different roles. I also think Sterling earned his place in the squad, if not the starting line up.
AKCJ Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 I'd be tempted to go something like this to bring a bit of pride back to the shirt. Not the most gifted 11 we could put out but it'd be the one that would do it's damned best. Hart Flanagan Cahill Jagielka Baines Barry Gerrard Sterling Sturridge Wilshere Lambert

Finnegan Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 You'd have to take someone like Jones who can fill in in different roles. I also think Sterling earned his place in the squad, if not the starting line up. You've got to have Sterling and Sturridge starting. Henderson and Gerrard, too, the form of Liverpool gives you your best chance in years. Chuck em in, take the reigns off, tell them to go for it and adopt as close to their domestic style as possible. You might even end up being good to watch. Henderson and Gerrard with Rooney in front of them, Sterling and whoever's fit on the wings (Ox? Walcott?) with Sturridge up front. Pretty terrifying. As much as I said England wouldn't get out of the group a few months ago and I still think Italy have the better side on paper, if the core of the Liverpool side turn up and play with the intensity they showed against Arsenal in the league then you can't imagine the old boys of Italy coping. That said, you'll probably force them in to a shit 442 with Lamps, Welbeck and Co starting and end up paying dire, turgid 1 1 draws but that's just the Three Lions effect.

I tend to agree but I don't think that's Hodgson's style so I doubt that will happen. If we were playing outside S. America Uruguay wouldn't worry me too much,Italy will probably be a draw and we should beat Costa Rica (it is Costa Rica in our group isn't it?) I don't think it'll be anything like the disaster some are predicting.

Bert Posted 23 April 2014 Posted 23 April 2014 But he will be for the World Cup.You can guarantee that because....? I'd rather see the players that have been playing all season and been playing well start for England. Wouldn't you? Do you not think we might have been going wrong in the past because we've been persisting with the so called "better players"? What's Wilshere done to merit a start for England based on this season?
