Or cut inside and hit row Z.

As much as I agree, the one thing I did like about Townsend was that he attacked his man, like Sterling does.

Infuriates me that we will have to be subjected to either Welbeck or Milner down the left and have them cut inside and pass side ways, neither of them are going to beat a man or strike the ball from 25 yards at goal.

Our defence has always been our strong point in the last 30 years if not longer, but right now it is complete horse shit. Gary Cahill aside the centre halves are a complete bunch of cart horses. Jagielka is bang average, Smalling is the fcukin pits, Phil Jones is yet to kick on and show any real consistency and Lescott who looked strong a few years back has been completely frozen out by club and country. It's a problem. We also have severe problems at full back. Glen Johnson has never been a defender yet cons a living at right back and when played alongside poor centre halves he's even worse. Ashley Cole has been formidable for the last decade or more but Mourinho hasn't fancied him much this year and that man knows how to organise a defence. I hope Ashley still has it and Roy picks him because Baines isn't world class where as Cole always has been and his experience is crucial when playing with 3 inferior defenders.

That said, i'm very bullish about our midfield right now, there's so much potential but will it be perform this summer? I absolutely love Lallana, Sterling and Barkley. I also think Oxlade-Chamberlain is fearless and has loads of ability, not to mention Gerrard is having the season of his career and Jordan Henderson has come on leaps and bounds. Milner will be in the squad for his versatility and he'll do a job. The only real negative is Wilshere's performances for club and country this season, they've not been as strong this year by a long stretch and I think Hodgson has a big dilemma on whether to take him. He's got an injury currently and I think i'd rather see Henderson there right now, which I cannot believe i'm saying that.

Up top, I just hope Sturridge can finally prove he's international class. He's got all the ability in the world against PL defences but so far he's snatched at shots for England and looked a bit mediocre. Where as Welbeck has been diabolical at times for Man Utd but seems to have it nailed down when playing for England.

One things for sure, I can't wait for the World Cup as per usual!!

My squad would be:

Hart

Ruddy

Forster/Butland (not arsed)

Cole

Baines

Johnson

Flanagan

Cahill

Lescott

Jagielka

Jones

Gerrard

Henderson

Barkley

Sterling

Lallana

Ox

Milner

Carrick

Rooney

Sturridge

Welbeck

i think lescott is our second best centre half (ignoring the fact john terry is still one of the best in the world let alone england, cos he won't play). him and cahill would be decent imo, not much more than decent though. cole has to play vs stronger teams, can see the theory of baines being played vs costa rica cos he could spend most his time left wing flying crosses in for fun.

that midfield looks good to me flair. who's starting is a different question but we've got a while to work that out. i wouldn't take wilshere.

i'd take carroll though. he is different to anything in world football really. it might be old skool, not pretty, not spanish super tika taka or whatever you want to call it but if implemented correctly it is fúcking effective. we've got gerrard, rooney, baines and even the likes of barkley or ox who can whip a ball in and if we're gonna be on the back foot and relying on a set piece/decent ball in we need, not want, need, carroll to be on the end of it.

townsend won't be missed either. one or two decent performances for england over 6 months ago followed by a good half an hour or so for spurs doesn't warrant a world cup place.

Welbeck and Milner have other qualities though.

No good having a winger who takes his marker on all game if that's all he's going to do.

Milner is one of the best defensive minded wingers we've got. He's a very tidy player. Possibly worth a spot on the plane.

Agreed.

Another reason why Wilshire shouldn't be going mate. Wilshire didn't even do the two decent performaces for England part. lol

Never said they didn't have spots on the plane, don't get ahead of yourself. I've said all along Milner deserves to go.

Milner is underrated, I'm not quite sure why he's lumped in the Cleverly-Welbeck group.

Would love Terry to get the call up. Been the best English centre back by a mile this season.

Not many people will agree with me here if any, but I wouldn't mind seeing Curtis Davies getting a call up. Had a great season as well. Neither will happen though and we'll have to witness Jagielka getting torn a new arsehole by Suarez.

He is our second best central midfielder.

PFA Team of the Year:

Gerrard (8): 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014

Lampard (3): 2004, 2005, 2006

Wilshere (1): 2011

So he can't be the second best midfielder then!

Mate, you're so uptight lol

I'm agreeing with you.

If Wilshere played for Liverpool you'd be on here telling us how good he is.

He's better than Henderson for sure.

in the past 18 months or so wilshere scored a good team goal against norwich and got injured a lot.

henderson has been pretty much ever present putting in a lot of motm displays for a team with lots of young english players around him who are probably going to miss out on the title on goal difference.

Based on ability and talent.

Exactly.

Base it on his career performances, there is no doubt that Wilshere has been proving his worth at the top level for a good few years now. Henderson has had a good patch of form that coincided with Liverpool's rise to the top of the division and everyone is on the bandwagon.
