Scouting of Players

Recommended Posts

This is something I have been thinking about since Alan Young mentioned it during the phone in after Saturday’s game.

Have City’s scouting network started to look at player of premiership quality yet in anticipation of us playing at a higher level.

Have we been watching players that have the quality to get us out of the championship up to this point, or have we always targeted premiership quality players.

Is the distinction between the two that simple?

Possibly Bert could offer an insight, if able without jeopardising himself.

Wouldn't be able to tell you myself but I'm sure they'll have had targets in mind for every scenario. But that's just an educated guess.

Personally think most of their signings have been with a view to building a squad that will be able to give it a real go in the premiership.

I do know we're looking at Aaron Creswell, mind.

Interesting!

Well that's fair enough, thank you for the response.

As for creswell, I do like the look of him, would be very pleased if he joined in the summer.

Creswell has proven over the past couple of seasons to be one of the best LB's in the division this season is his best so far with 2 goals and 12 assists.

Bert was IN the scouts, he isn't A scout.

his signature at the side of his posts use to say head scout, have I read to much into that?

I'm sure they look at players for every scenario, like Bert says. I've heard managers of clubs who were in our position in previous seasons, say they already have targets for the Premiership if they go up. Nigel likes to do his business early so I'm sure they'll have a list of players.

I wouldn't be surprised if we are scouting for some players at the World Cup.

Nigel will be over in Brazil and no doubt relaxing in the rainforest and along the Amazon dealing with any unruly dangerous animals !

I would think prem Quality players have been in mind since he returned.

When he returned his job was to get us in the prem.

No point lucking for players he don't thing could hack it.

He must feel the players he has bought in are at least good enough for a bench spot in the prem.

While I don't doubt there will be quality out there, is that Nigel's way? He strikes me as the type who like to cover all the bases, take his time and make sure the player is right.

Can that be done in 4-5 games within a month?

Any manager and scouting team worth their salt try and do business before major tournaments like the World Cup as they drastically increase fees and wages if a player performs well and makes the player a hot commodity. Sometimes it can't be done but generally that is the idea and plan.

I'd hope Nige be wise enough not to buy players for a prem campaign on the back of a few world cup performances.

this .

the received wisdom apparently is NOT to sign on the basis of impressive world cup performances unless you want a team of Hossein Kaebis  mounting a premiership campaign

I would be foolish to be in our position and not be looking at potential promotion targets. We don't want to be like crystal palace last summer scrapping around for panic buys and being left with a chamakh type player. Again this is something we can all probably have confidence in NP and his team doing.

Agree with Cresswell being a good signing too. One of the best left backs outside of the premiership imo.

I would think we would be looking at players. Why wouldn't we, let's be honest, if we have another collapse then Pearson won't be here, so he only has one option to plan for.

However the sooner we get over the line, then we can tell players, we WILL be playing top flight football.
