dmayne7 Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 We would need a mix of Premier League or International experience & a few young talent. Central Defence, Central Midfield & a Forward with Premier League or International experience would be vital to our chances, while some talent at left-back, on the wing and maybe up front as well would go well with the experience. Centre Back Jonas Olsson Steven Caulker Grant Hanley Left Back Aaron Cresswell Fabian Johnson Charlie Mulgrew Central Midfield Steve Sidwell Mile Jedinak Jack Rodwell(Loan) Wingers Ruben Schaken Michael Krohn-Dehli Moses Odubajo Strikers Adam Le Fondre Ross McCormack Alfred Finnbogason Michy Batshuayi Aron Johannsson It was all looking very impressive until you got to the wingers. Krohn-Dehli is a decent shout but I think we need somebody proven in the PL or at least a top league in Europe. With the strikers, its even more important that we get someone established. That's why I'd be disappointed with signing McCormack or Le Fondre because I personally don't think that we'll get more than 1 striker in so if they're our main one that will be a very big risk and one that if it has to be taken, would be much better on a younger player. I don't think Pearson will spend loads but I reckon he may splash the cash on a Striker As for suggestions of Lambert; ridiculous. He's playing on top of his game for a good Southampton side and if they do let him go he'll be going back up North. Can't see Cleverley coming either. From Champions League and England regular to a newly promoted side? Don't think so.
Donut Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 OK, i dont know if people will laugh, or my targets are way off, but id be looking along the lines of: Left Back: Alexander Buttner, Marcos Alonso, Pablo Armero Possible Centreback/ Utility Cover If Needed: Dedryck Boyata (loan) Central Midfield (Tenacious, Combative, Experienced) Wilson Palacios, Jermaine Jenas, (a little less experienced but talented) Vurnon Anita Versatile Midfielder (Creative, Can unlock the door) Seb Larsson, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Mesquita Lopes (loan) Goalscorer (A calculated gamble on a player to get 15 goals): Kolbein Sigthorsson, Filip Djordevic (we were linked?)

From Champions League and England regular to a newly promoted side? Don't think so. If West Brom go down, James Morrison would be a great buy. Can play on the wing, but also in the hole as an attacking creative midfielder, I doubt he would come cheap though. Shaun Maloney perhaps, one of Wigan's better players while they were in the Prem. Le Fondre has had a season in the Prem though, if we do go up, he would be my number one choice of a striker. He is an excellent finisher and would be the perfect fit for us. I would literally break our transfer record for someone like Finnbogason or Batshuayi as well, both highly rated.
Number 6 Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 At a minimum: Gk - either decent back up or a good number 1 if Kasper leaves LB CB - imagine a clear out in this debt so will need numbers A winger of some sort A top quality striker - I mean this as no offence to any of ours, who have done a great job this season, but it's imperative that we score when on top if that's likely to be infrequent. All this relies on us finishing the job this season first of course!
ScouseFox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Hardly the worst full backs in the league are they? I ask again, name some realistic alternatives...... What's wrong with De Laet and Konchesky? Why do we need alternatives? RDL would easily cope in the Prem if he continues to improve, Konchesky is your experience and has been solid this year. Can kinda see why people would want to replace Konch, harsh as it is, but there's no point replacing him with another old and slow full back.
LCFC FOX Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Forster Cresswell Senderos Gardner Zaha (loan) Guidetti Rhodes That will do me

Fair point just not sure I rate konch as being prem standard. Definitely like to see how RDL gets on in the prem. Someone like naughton would be fantastic but not sure he'd come back. Wouldn't mind someone like brunt either and rosenier has done alright at Hull this year. Trying to think of an experienced CB that is quick but would win headers and run the show back there? Realistically?

Trying to think of an experienced CB that is quick but would win headers and run the show back there? Realistically? How about that Wes Morgan chap? If we go up we don't need to rip holes through the team... Hull are going to finish about 14th with a back three of Chester, Bruce and Davies. Looks like Palace will stay up with Gabbidon as first choice! Hardly world beaters there. Wes and Liam have the makings of a very decent centre half pairing in the Prem. We don't need to be the best team in the league, just the 4th worst initially and build gradually. Realistically I think we need to add a left back, holding midfielder and a centre forward to be competitive. Nothing drastic.
Father Ted Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 I'd suspect we'd make 4/5 new signings but all would depend on the situation with the players out of contract. I'd like to see us sign: Goalkeeper: A young, highly rated keeper from the lower leagues to be Kasper's understudy. Left Back: Konch won't be playing every week in the Prem (at least I hope not) Centre Back: A top class centre back to play alongside Wes. Winger: An established top flight winger. (Centre Midfielder): Potentially. I wouldn't want to break up James and Drinkwater but imo King and Hammond not good enough for the Prem. If one of them were injured, we would be screwed. Striker: Main priority for me. New striker alongside Vardy. Would spend serious amounts on Ings should Burnley not go up.
Donut Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Victor Moses would be good. Oh yes, great shout
Happy Fox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Albrighton, is a free agent in the summer as well he is a very good player.
chili_con_carne Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Think a lot are going to be very surprised at the players we bring in should we go up. The owners are serious guys. We signed yakubu in the championship ! I know it's not really pearsons style but I foresee a lot of money being spent should we go up
Donut Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Ive got no doubt that we would be an attractive proposition to come to, and i am SURE the funds would be available to make this happen Saido Berahino is another summer free agent. Has done well for the Baggies this season.
Donut Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Defensive midfielder available on a free this summer: Esteban Cambiasso?
Foxhateram Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Great Minds think alike. Very good shout that! Would live to see him here alongside Wes or Moore. New lb required definitely. Albrighton I previously mentioned and would love to see here.
TJB-fox Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Why on earth are people suggesting Thorgan Hazard, even though hes barely kicked a ball in England, what a waste of money hed be
TJB-fox Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 But, on topic I'd like : Kris Commons, Aaron Cresswell/emilio izaguirre, Nathan Redmond and Gary Hooper(should Norwich go down), Mohammed Diame (bit of a long shot, but someone in his sort of mould) , Simon Moore (young keeper did well at Brentford last year) and one/2 of Walshy's unknowns! I'd want about 6/7 in overall.
TJB-fox Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Really dont want Albrighton, hes just a Knockaert without a final product, saw him at Cardiff on Tuesday and he was horribly average
Dan Posted 17 February 2014 Posted 17 February 2014 Konchesky would get hammered in the Premier. Cresswell sounds like a ready made signing for us really if we go up and I'm lead to believe there's something in it too. Some of shouts in here are ridiculous. Lambert, Anita and James Morrison aren't coming here. I suppose the big difference we'll see if we go up is the pulling power we, even as a newly promoted club, have from the rest of Europe. I reckon players from even clubs like Lyon and Marseille would be tempted here - as much as I don't agree with the motives.

Has done well for the Baggies this season. No way he's coming here. If he doesn't sign at West Brom he'll end up at an Everton or someone.
