foxfanazer Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Would need a few signings but not too many. I'd hate us to go down the QPR/Palace route in pretty much signing a whole new squad. Wouldn't happen with Nige as manager. Every signing will be well thought out and considered. He doesn't like signing players for the sake of it
sdb Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Apart from James Milner and possibly Micah Richards, what names have been mentioned that are unrealistic? John Terry? Lambert? Plus the 2 you mention. They were the names that were ridiculous in terms of pure fantasy. Then there are plenty that are just wank and/or completely unsuited to our style or unlike anything Pearson and Walsh would ever buy (Crouch?).
Soup Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 I can't remember to be honest mate Think most of us have wiped that game from our memorys.
Soar Fox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 John Terry? Lambert? Plus the 2 you mention. They were the names that were ridiculous in terms of pure fantasy. Then there are plenty that are just wank and/or completely unsuited to our style or unlike anything Pearson and Walsh would ever buy (Crouch?). I missed the John Terry one lol absolutely ridiculous suggestion. Wasn't digging you out or anything maybe if we were a stable premier league team in a couple of seasons James Milner would be a realistic target. Micah Richards I think will be off to Liverpool in the summer. Rickie Lambert won't be a regular for Southampton next season and at the age of 31/32 I think he'd want to play regular premiership football. Someone I certainly think Pearson would be interested in if he was available.
Stadt Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Yeah only the Derby one in the cup from memory. We don't tend to get many atound the box though.Knocky's are usually miles over the bar, the ones that are on target are hit very feebly but the against Derby .
Stadt Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 I suppose Lambert isn't too unrealistic but id say it's unlikely, especially if he goes to the World Cup.
Native Fox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 I think a big physical striker e.g someone like anichebe would fantastic! Anichebe & vardy = right handfull More like a handful of goals...
CPW22 Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 I missed the John Terry one lol absolutely ridiculous suggestion. Fox92 Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Ings will attract a lot of interest regardless of what division Burnley are in. He really is complete, and scores all types of goals.
Dan Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 I don't think it would come to that. Pearson's set up is different to other managers in that his young squad will look to make the step up, we'd just need to add to this squad, not overhaul it. Wouldn't happen with Nige as manager. Every signing will be well thought out and considered. He doesn't like signing players for the sake of it Which is precisely why I'm happy with him. He'll make the sensible decisions. Can see him signing a couple of experienced players and a few more youngsters. He'd be due another signing from France
lgfualol Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Depay, Benzia, Bakkali, Oztunali pls. Fifa tells me they're good. I got them all for under 10m.
Dan Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Too many signings can de-stabalise and fail to gel and I think we have the basis of a good pacy team that could just do with a few thoughtful additions. GK - If Caspar stays we need a good back-up LB - Konchesky may well just be found out but great back-up. Cresswell is the name many put forward but I don't pretend to know too much about him. Though pacy, just don't think Schlupp is a left back. CB - I believe Liam will rise to the challenge in the Championship alongside an experienced CB to his left. Although fairly solid in the Championship, I think Morgan will struggle in the Premiership (will perhaps get slated for even suggesting this). Against Man City, (and many teams now have pacy midfields and strikers), he looked cumbersome, slow and out of his depth. Good back-up. Whilst there is no chance he'd come here and although quite aged now, if John Terry was discarded by Chelsea he'd fit the bill nicely despite his off field persona. M - One nasty holding midfielder to compliment our excellent midfield on the few games we need one. S - Its goals that keep teams up and even in the Championship we seem to need 10 chances to put 1 away. There's no such luxury in the Premiership. Vardy will create havoc and be a pest still, Wood has an eye for goal and is worth a place on the bench as something different. Nugent perhaps a 1 year contract but can't personally see him making any impact and would be on the bench for me. We need a Yakubu or Philips box type player but doesn't everyone! To be fair, the majority of defenders look weak against Man City's attack. If he can handle the likes of Norwich, Fulham, West Brom, Cardiff, Swansea, Stoke etc... then that'll be good enough for a year. The majority of defenders will get blitzed by Man City's attack.
Foxhateram Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Hibbert and Riise? . Maybe if we're trying to beat Derby's record. Bags of Prem experience and a mature head to run the show? Any sensible and realistic other suggestions?
Danno Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Bags of Prem experience and a mature head to run the show? Any sensible and realistic other suggestions? The worst full backs in the league? Great stuff.
dedlock Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 We will need to strengthen the spine with quality, preferably with top flight experience. We also need more competition/alternatives in a number of positions. If you look at the out of contract players we will have a thin squad come June.
Happy Fox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 For me: Aaron Cresswell Leon Osman/Tom Cleverly Daryl Janmaat Thorgan Hazard (loan) Joleon Lescott Jelle Vossen
Vardinhio Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Cherry pick from the relgated teams. If Norwich go down I'd 100% take Snodgrass and if WBA go down I'd take Brunt and Morrison. Lambert seems like a sensible choice and would definitely get us goals.
Foxhateram Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 The worst full backs in the league? Great stuff. Hardly the worst full backs in the league are they? I ask again, name some realistic alternatives......
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Literally have no idea who Nigel would go for which is why it is so interesting.

Someone I certainly think Pearson would be interested in if he was available. Yeah, haha, I should probably have just laughed at that one! I'd love Milner but I reckon pretty much every Prem club would go in for him if he were ever available. Lambert, would be fantastic but again I think if he were to leave Soton, half a dozen more established sides would be interested too.
kingfox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 We would need a mix of Premier League or International experience & a few young talent. Central Defence, Central Midfield & a Forward with Premier League or International experience would be vital to our chances, while some talent at left-back, on the wing and maybe up front as well would go well with the experience. Centre BackJonas OlssonSteven Caulker Grant Hanley Left Back Aaron Cresswell Fabian Johnson Charlie Mulgrew Central MidfieldSteve Sidwell Mile Jedinak Jack Rodwell(Loan) Wingers Ruben Schaken Michael Krohn-Dehli Moses Odubajo Strikers Adam Le Fondre Ross McCormack Alfred Finnbogason Michy Batshuayi Aron Johannsson
Danno Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Hardly the worst full backs in the league are they? I ask again, name some realistic alternatives...... Do you ever watch them?
kingfox Posted 16 February 2014 Posted 16 February 2014 Do you ever watch them? Tony Hibbert is actually decent. Can defend very well at times.
