deejdeej Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 That strike force of burnley a few years back would tear this division a new a##hole now. Imagine Rodriguez and Ings playing either side of a central Austin.
lancyclaret Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Bournemouth bid £1 million for Ings just before the start of the season after two injury-hit years at Burnley and, apparently, the Burnley board gave the offer serious consideration. Word is that if the Cherries had offered an extra £250,00, he would have been plying his trade at Dean Court this season. I bet Eddie Howe is regretting not going back with an improved offer. Bolton also bid just over a million for Ings last season and this season so I am glad neither club went back with a £1.5 million offer which would have sealed it.
Devonfox1884 Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I count that at around 4.7 million for the starting XI. Pretty impressive to be honest. Does anyone know what our current 11 would be valued at? I'd go: Schmeichel (from Leeds, undisclosed, although let's say £2 million) Konchesky (from Liverpool, Sven signing, so probably £1 million) Wes (from Forest, undisclosed though thought to be around £1 million) Moore (from academy, free. Was also free after trial if you put him in instead) De Laet (from Man U, brought with James, probs £500,000) Dyer (from MK Dons, maybe £200,000?) James (from Man U with De Laet, probs £500,000) Drinkwater (from Man U, £1million) Knockaert (from Guingamp, undisclosed, £1 million?) Nugent (from Portsmouth, free) Vardy (from Fleetwood, £1million) That makes our squad around £8.2 million on guesstimate. Not too bad either for what it would have been a couple years ago. Dyer was free!! Also kaper was £1.25m and knocky was closer to £2m!!
lancyclaret Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 That strike force of burnley a few years back would tear this division a new a##hole now. Imagine Rodriguez and Ings playing either side of a central Austin. But our defence was diabolical under Howe - conceding an average of 2 goals a game. When Howe resigned after 10 games last season, our record was P10 W3 D2 L5 Goals for 21 Goals against 22 Points 11. He left us 2 points above the bottom three. Dyche came in and improved the defence massively although got a lot of criticism for "boring" football. But we only conceded about 33 goals in the next 36 games and finished 11th on 61 points. Dyche was in charge at Burnley for 33 league games last season and only Cardiff conceded LESS goals in that period. This season, Burnley's defence has only shipped 25 goals in 31 games while Howe's Bournemouth, although capable of good football, have conceded almost DOUBLE that. Howe's "homesickness" will stop being a good PL manager.
Simonb Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 i think knocky was around 2.8m in total, de laet was apparently £1 with James £1999999 so that united didnt have to give ought to stoke?
LCFC FOX Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Jed Wallace at Portsmouth, quality player. He will be big

Not too bad either for what it would have been a couple years ago. I think it was closer to this, so I make it around 9.25 million. Pretty sure we got Wes a bit cheaper because he was out of contract.
Langston Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Freeman came to stevenage from the Arsenal academy, he was signed to replace George Boyd.. Who is now playing in the premier league with Hull.. Freeman is an out and out left wing man and would be an ideal option to bring on for Dyer!... How was he a replacement? Didn't Boyd swap Stevenage for London Road a good few years before Freeman had probably even heard of the place?
eastendfox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Generally we do better signing players with potential from lower down (or released from a big club in effect) than we do signing so called 'star' players who then don't give a... In the past Lennon and Elliott being great examples, Alan Smith further back, Vardy in the current side.
sylofox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Off the top of my head... G/K: Heaton (free from Bristol City, signed by Dyche) R/B: Tripper (£300,000 from Man City after loan, signed by Howe) L/B: Mee (£300,000 from Man City after loan, signed by Howe) C/H Duff (£25,000 from Cheltenham, signed by Cotterill) C/H Shackell (£1.1 million from Derby, signed by Howe) RM (Arfield (free from Huddersfield, signed by Dyche) CM Marney (£500,000 from Hull, signed by Laws) CM Jones (free from Wigan, signed by Dyche) LM Kightly (season long loan from Stoke) STR Ings (£1 million from Bournemouth, signed by Howe) STR Vokes (£400,000 from Wolves, signed by Howe) That's the regular starting XI Squad players:) GK Cisak (free from Oldham, signed by Dyche) RB O'Neill (£25,000 from Mansfield, signed by Howe) LB Lafferty (£100,000 from Irish team, signed by Howe) CB Long (£100,000 from Irish team, signed by Coyle) CB Edgar (£250,000 from Newcastle, signed by Coyle) RM Wallace (£750,000 from Preston, signed by Laws) CM Stock (£150,000 from Doncaster, signed by Howe) WING (Stanislaus (£1 million from West Ham, signed by Howe) WING (Treacy (£750,000 from Preston, signed by Howe) STR (Barnes (£750,000 from Brighton, signed by Dyche). Dyche has only been allowed to sign Barnes for a fee and just one loan player, Kightly. Howe was a big disappointment considering he was backed in transfer market (Charlie Austin) but he signed some good players who have improved under Dyche (Ings and Vokes). In the 2011/12 season, Howe guided us to a glorious 13th place despite having a strike force of Jay Rodriguez, Charlie Austin, Danny Ings and Sam Vokes (lengthy loan). If Dyche had been allowed to spend as much as useless Brian Laws and Howe, we would have probably made the play-offs last season or the season before that. We spent more and all we got was Matt fvcking Mills and idle tw@ Beckford. Praps clubs should look at yourselves and us pre NP and what he has done since his return. Then praps they would see spending big in this league gets you fvck all.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Can't see us signing untried lower league players if we get promoted
lancyclaret Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 In the past 5 years, Burnley, Blackpool and Palace all got promoted via the play-offs without spending a fortune. Norwich won the league and did not spend that much. Money helps but, without team spirit, promotion is unlikely...just look at Bolton and Wolves..
cjslcfc Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I think it was closer to this, so I make it around 9.25 million. Pretty sure we got Wes a bit cheaper because he was out of contract. Think Knocky wan't that expensive yet. Think the initial fee was around £600/700k and lots of add ons going up to around £2 million. In reality, no one really knows with all these undisclosed fees
Stadt Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 I'd much rather have a Vardy than a Schlupp. Lower league players have got that desire and hunger that overpaid youth players like Schlupp don't have.
ealingfox Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 We spent more and all we got was Matt fvcking Mills and idle tw@ Beckford. Praps clubs should look at yourselves and us pre NP and what he has done since his return. Then praps they would see spending big in this league gets you fvck all. Cardiff were the biggest spenders last season, they won the league at a canter. Big spending gets you everywhere if you marry it with Championship values, precisely what Mackay did so well. Difference with us is we did the spending, then had to wait before NP could add the Championship values to the mix, whilst Mackay managed to do them simultaneously.
deejdeej Posted 21 February 2014 Posted 21 February 2014 Was watching FL 72 yesterday and it showed a round up of the league 2 goals in the week. Cant remember who it was or who was playing but an 18 year old chested the ball on the edge of the box and volleyed it top corner, cracking goal!

In the past Lennon and Elliott being great examples, Alan Smith further back, Vardy in the current side. seem to remember Elliott was 1.8m from Oxford so not exactly a small outlay - could be wrong though with that figure
dmayne7 Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Example... Jamie Vardy!.. How many more are out there that can make the step up?... One of them I believe is Luke Freeman of Stevenage! He is one of the best talents I've seen in the flesh. Watched him in January 2012 against Reading and he tore them to pieces. Showed touches of class that very few players could deliver. Clearly he's very inconsistent though otherwise he'd have been back in the Prem by now. Peterborough will show you how to farm the lower leagues. So many talented players that slip through the net/are unlucky to miss their big chance.
Father Ted Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 i think knocky was around 2.8m in total, de laet was apparently £1 with James £1999999 so that united didnt have to give ought to stoke? Knockaert was around £800k rising to £2.4million potentially I heard. Kasper £1mill and Wes 500k
Dan Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Money is a real useful tool but not without some brains behind it - we had as much money as you could want in this league yet we squandered an absolutely disgusting amount. I think you've got to be careful with it as you can attract players who only want to join you for that reason alone and will have possibly lost the determination to better themselves in the process - Mills & Danns both turned down Premier League clubs to join us and I can't help but think we offered them stupid money to do so - and would it be wrong of me to say that both of them, along with others had got worse after joining us? It's no co-incidence. As for our squad, I think it's... Schmeichel £1mil De Laet £1mil Morgan £800k Moore £0 Konchesky £1.5mil Knockaert £2.6mil (that may be wrong) Drinkwater £500k James £1mil Dyer £0 Nugent £0 Vardy £750k (rising to £1.7mil on promotion I think) That comes to over £8mil, a lot really although I do wonder how it compares. Other players come to; Logan £0 Wasilewski £0 Miquel loan King £0 Hammond £500k (That's a complete guess) Mahrez £400k Taylor-Fletcher £0 Philips £0 Wood £1.2mil (???) Schlupp £0 I think what makes our season so impressive is the fact we've actually brought in more money this season than we spent on players. We've spent what, a million in total on players this season? We took in about that for Marshall and we took in about that for Beckford, didn't we? I would love to see how this compares to Forest & Derby. Derby fans seem to have a chip on their shoulder about what we've spent but I bet their whole squad isn't far off that, if not more. They've paid out a million quid on a few occasions. Admittedly the whole argument is ignoring wages, which we'll look bad for but the point is we've definitely improved since two years ago.
Langston Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Lower league players have got that desire and hunger that overpaid youth players like Schlupp don't have. That's such a clichéd, vast, sweeping statement to make. What are you actually basing it on?
TJB-fox Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 That's such a clichéd, vast, sweeping statement to make. What are you actually basing it on? indeed, Liam Moore is a prime example of this. Not from the lower leagues he is a 'overpaid youth' like Schlupp yet he shows just as much hunger as Vardy (albeit in different mannerisms) imo

I've always liked Shackell too.. we were linked with him and many of our forum suggested he was pants.
lancyclaret Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Shackell and Marney have been Burnley's best two players this season though Ings and Vokes have grabbed the headlines. Without Shackell and Marney, we'd be lower mid-table .Both are 30 and at their peak
