With his age he's going to need a steady run in the team, just like now to get match sharp. I think next season he'll obviously be a year older and I think a bit slower. He would be in danger of ruining the cult hero status he currently has. I'd wrather remember him as the player he is and the impact he has made and send him back to anderlecht with my best wishes.

I personally don't think he'd have too much of a problem in the premiership as he embodies the type of defender like John Terry or Nemanja Vidic is. Neither blessed with speed but do have a fantastic reading of the game and a throw your body on the line attitude. He's also the same age as those 2 so age and pace but as previously stated, everyone would be on the backfoot when you have Aguero, Da Silva, Nasri and co all flying at you. But losing 3-1 wasn't bad against that showing. Also I'd probably be disappointed if I didn't see him in the Prem for at least 1 season.

That's correct, "Vasilevski" is a proper way of pronouncing Marcin's last name :)

Thank you. Now I can stop this nagging sensation I have when Alan Young says his name lol.

It's not like Anderlecht has a shortage of the centerbackk, you know. Wasyl would have to fight for his place in the team, risking to destroy his hero status in a very painful way. I'm really not sure why would he want to get back to Belgium, instead of fulfilling his lifelong dream.

Remember his family - he's 34 - he's moved them to Leicester for now but it they were settled in Brussels, you can understand a return. I certainly wouldn't think that it's a lack of ambition.

One more year isn't exactly a long time. Other footballers are capable of managing their family when playing for clubs in different countries, etc. For instance, I'm sure Drogba's kids still go to school in London.

He's done brilliantly for us, and plus don't forget by trade he is actually a RB, its only age that has seen him move to CB.... anyway if you're talking about the premiership and quality of players then in my opinion we will need a new left sided defender, can't afford to be imbalanced at the back!

We've got one, he's called Miquel and hopefully Arsenal will let him go.

But he hasn’t been sent-off. Or given away a penalty.

Wasyl has made an art-form out of controlled violence. His flailing elbows always look slightly gangly and un-co-ordinated rather than vicious - and so refs always have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I’ve also noticed that he modifies his game after he’s been booked: once he’s on a yellow he’s a lot more disciplined: No more rash challenges, and no more elbows flying into an opponent.

He’s the Dog’s.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but isn't Polish one of the language's where the W is pronounced in English as a V.
And his name should actually be said as 'Vasilevski' opppsed to what Alan Young always does and say it phonetically?

According to Wiki:

[ˈmart͡ɕin vaɕiˈlɛfskʲi]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_Polish

Which, if I've interpreted that correctly, should be pronounced Mar-chin Va-shi-leff-skyi. Perhaps one of our resident Poles can correct me if I'm wrong!

Pronunciation aside, I love the bloke. WASYYYL :chant::scarf:

I would never suspect Wasyl about a lack of ambition! That's why I am deeply confused about his potential return to Anderlecht. Over a year ago, when Marcin ended up on the bench (should I say that Van Den Brom is a massive idiot?) without any hope for the contract renewal, he was very much ready to leave Anderlecht. And he almost signed up with Legia Warsaw, but then everything got fvcked up, Wasyl  did a total 180, refused Legia and started to fight desperately to stay in Anderlecht. That was one hopeless fight, ended in September, when both Brom and van Holsbeeck said a big fat "NO" to Wasyl. He luckily found a new club, all seemed rose and peachy, he got a chance to fulfill his dreams... And now I hear Michel is nagging Holsbeeck about Wasyl's return?

And I know he has a family he cares deeply about, but c'mon dragging his kids back and forth cannot be good for them, right?

Nevermind, whatever he's planning to do, he has a good reason for that, I'm sure.

Yeah Witch already explained to me. I've remembered this all stems from when we had James Wesolowski and I was curious why the Scottish commentator kept saying it weird durinf the Celtic game. I learned why in the end lol

Do any of our Anderlecht friends have any comments on their end if talks are happening? Surely their boards would have whispers?

Confident that he could make the step up too. He's a seasoned pro and has vast amounts of experience. Could do a job for sure. He's certainly better than Alex Bruce who is currently patrolling in the Prem.

Hopefully he'll get a new deal.

Morning all,

Not somebody who really posts on the forums but I'm about to move to San Francisco with work so I'm guessing that might change!

Anyway, to get on with my story, I left my current job yesterday and was given a framed signed shirt which was pretty amazing in itself BUT the story of how it came to be mine is even better.

I have a Polish lady who works for me and her Dad happens to be their national volleyball coach, so she asked him to contact a couple of sports journalists to find a route back to Wasyl knowing I'd said he was Polish.

He did no more than go via Dortmund and she gets Wasyl's mobile number followed by a call inviting her to come and meet his family and latterly the whole squad after training. She said he introduced her one by one and even provided the shirt for her.... What a nice guy!

He might look like a brute but he even went to the trouble of checking I loved it yesterday.

I can't believe I land a dream opportunity this season of all seasons but I'm hoping to fly back a few times to put my season ticket to use!

Walked right past him in the Highcross earlier but was too starstruck to say anything

How tall is he? He looks a giant on the pitch but isnt he only about 6ft?

An ex coach more like, as the last one national volleybal coach, who was Polish, we had like ten years ago. Or it's a ladies team he coaches:)

...but that's the part I believe fully. That's exactly Wasyl being himself :)

bettsj2 - I was surprised, he was the same height as me (6ft 1, possibly 6ft), but if I didn't know who he was I wouldn't have looked him in the eye - looks like he could tear your arms off! His missus was on his arm, naturally a stunner
